2007 GSXR 1000 puked out today
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:44:11 PM »
Took my buddy to pick up his 2007 GSXR1000 from the dealer today. Went in for a recall and to add that new Bazazz programmer, only mod to the bike is a racefit exhaust. 10 miles down the road headed home he rolls into it in 3rd and it goes boom at 9000rpm, smoke pouring out the exhaust and starts knocking and goes dead on the side of the road, hit the starter a few times and it just pours raw gas out the exhaust!! When the shop came and picked it up on the side of the road they said it ran fine on the dyno and made 175 and said the air to fuel ratio was correct. What do you guys think may have gone wrong?

What recall? 1st problem with the bike? Any idea how many miles on the meter?
Even though the Bazazz controller isn't as well known as a PC. I don't think it would be a programming issue(though I've yet to see one on the road or heard any experience about it)...
If not a lemon, I'd guess the shop didn't do something.

Curious what some of the tuners, got to say.

Doesnt sound to good, more like a thrown rod, or cracked piston....but being that it is pretty much stock I dont see how that could have happened........did it have plenty of oil in it?

yeah i'm pretty sure after they fix your bike and it's only a stock injector and everything is running fine, there wouldn't be a chance in hell with you getting a new bike from them....I mean you can't even get suzuki to warranty the 2nd gear tranny problems on the busa

not my bike but i can ask they guy....it was dynoed by the Southaven suzuki and they were suppose to e-mail him a dyno sheet, That was over a year ago but he still might have it and if not I wonder if the dealership still has it saved. He wants to put it on Chuck Wilburns dyno to see what it makes on his....so if he doesn't have the old ones it wont be long until he gets a new one

I didn't realize y'all were down South like me. Do either of you drag? We've got a Redline event coming up in Belle Rose. Unfortunately it's the same weekend as Holly Springs big dog race so I'm betting that is where you guys will be.

Anyway I'd like to see Wilburn's #'s so hopefully your friend will post those. Generally most shops will give you a copy of the dyno sheets when you pick up your bike. I was just curious to see run conditions and whether the posted #'s were SAE or STD.

No drag racing here but i do like it....he rides the street and track and I ride 100% street. We are about 30min from holly springs. That K7 GSXR 1000 is a tough little bike. Yeah chuck has a good dyno and is a standup guy and i generally go by what his dyno puts out. I'm sure they gave him a print out but no telling if he still has it

this happened over a year ago....the dealer just came and picked up the bike off the side of the interstate and they fixed it for free....if you go back in read it just turned out to be a stuck injector. Overall the dealership came through and it tuned out well

thats a great turnout for the owner then, do these bikes tend to be unreliable?

no not at all....a modern sportbike takes some ridiculous abuse if you think about it, keep the oil and filter changed, the chain adjusted and lubed and they will last a very very long time....we are talking some bikes have 100K miles on them. It was just a fluke just something out of the norm that happened.
