gearing for Maxton or Goliad
« on: December 08, 2004, 09:43:38 AM »
Two scenarios here;

1. ~340hp w/o OD gears. what kinda gearing numbers for F & R?

2. ~400hp w/ OD gears. what kinda gearing numbers for F & R?

One bike has an A/M sprocket cover which will only allow a 19, the other a stocker which should allow a 20. where else should we be for the paved 1 mile?

and it looks as if 3 of us from the desert SW will be making Goliads first event in '05. I had read elsewhere they were adding an event for '05 with a first possible date at the end of March. Anyone know otherwise or if they have made any decisions?

340 w/o OD and 400 w OD  , Nice!!!! Can not wait to see ya run out at Goliad.

I do not know much about gearing, but since no one else has responed I figured I would give my layperson’s two cents.

I picked some of these numbers off this site. I however do not know how acurate they are.
I also guess you have to take into consideration tire circumference, wheel spin/slippage, right to left head cross wind, and the most obvious, there is only one mile. On the plus side, Goliad is as smooth as glass and I believe there is plenty of shut down space.

HAYABUSA  GEAR RATIO & SPEED IN GEARS

18/40   109    147    187    223    252   273

I think with the right gearing, setup, and good conditions you should
be able to conservatively run around the following:
210MPH - 215MPH with the 340HP Bike
215MPH - 230MPH with the 400HP Bike

July 16-17   :1: going to be HOT

Oct 22-23

If anyone has any new info please post.

Hope to see Ya out there  :D

I figured if I broke into triple digits I'd be doing OK

I wont be riding this year. I have a very lovely lady who is chomping at the bit to ride and a surprise rider in the works.

3B you weigh 309?  Thats what I like to see!!!! Don't let any of these little skinny people talk ya into riding your bike. Stick with us 1/8th ton + riders out here. It will be good to have some big riders (PC: Heavy Hitters) out at Goliad.

PS: I heard that Maxton will be having all new classes and extra rules to get a couple more of thier buddies into the 200 club :P , maybe they can make us an Extra Heavy Hitters class. :P  :P

Yag not so much about the riders weight as it is the riders Size and ability to get "small" on the bike..RZ350 is the perfect size and his top speed of 242+mph proved that for his first time at Bonneville on a bike..Remember that the fastest bikes all add weight to them to assist with better traction..some of them I hear even add 300+ pounds

I'm 200lbs, wet and naked (not a pretty picture)    doing 220mph on 330hp using a 19/37 gear.  Weight hurts at the launch and when you try to stop.  But once your rolling its all style, aero and ride posture...hang on!  Yeah, these lightweight whipper snappers talk a good game but have them carry a bag of cement with them under their gut and have them try and go fast.  Now were talking.  :lol2:

Isn't it more a matter of proper setup for the suspension and the ability of the rider or is it really added weight? (and of course a good rider)

Let's face it, many have built turbo bikes that have more HP than can be utilitzed in a mile. Is it really all about weight? I would imagine that a good rider with less HP can put down as much or more speed in a mile than insane HP and added weight.

Since Aerodynamics Require the "Larger" end to be forward, All us big guys need to learn is how to ride "Backwards" Then we could beat the Little Guys     Just Look at A Busa, The reasons its areo's are better than the ZX12 is because it is fatter and wider and squatier in the front than the 12. It reminds me more of the Bulbous Harley Road Racers of the Late 60's and early 70's and later the Buell "Battle Twin".  SO in the end,"it is not  the size or weight, but the Shape" :!:  :!:

Vincent, do you have a handle on that Green Machine yet?  Scott is talking about putting the alky & N2O back on to Pollacks Busa.  Me thinks he wants some free money.  I'm going to come back for the April 2-3 event with some new tricks up my sleeve.  I smell a 230 pass...then again I have gas today.

And my shape is closing in on your shape.  Since were both shaped fast, I'm honored.

Scott is scary!  AT least you are more Compact than me (Need less room to flatten out!) That Tank you have is now almost a Necessity! :D:D

I have not stopped working on my bike (Not a lot of work, just experiments) since October. I just got some parts Randall brought me today (A return line restrictor and Muzzy Fuel Pump). I am hoping to have "Things" ready to test at the end of next week. I am not going back until I have everything right and can run the "Number" I know it can make.

The poor Economics in Toledo are not helping matters! Go By 53 So. Centennial Road and you will see a beautiful House that I cannot get sold for $160,000 and in DC I would have to fight them off at $750,000. (It needs about $15,000 in AC, Windows and Kitchen to be "Modern") Do you know anyone looking for a 2,500 Sq FT House 2.5 car Garage on 1 Acre?

so looking at the numbers are you guys running maxton in 5th gear through the lights? Is that because 6th just doesn't have enough pull? I had always thought to gear about 10+mph over what I can run in 6th gear so as to not come down the back side of the hp curve at the lights.

I think at 200mph there may be a little bit more than 10mph of wheel slippage. As speed goes up there will be more slippage from HP at start of mile and then wind pressure/resistance at end of mile. Also, depends on aerodynamics and gearing. Most of us I believe run in 6th gear through the traps. What do I know though, just a layperson's answer. :D

Randall geared 19 / 44 (with about a 23.5 inch tire) is about 219 MPH at 11,000 and he was on the rev limiter at 199.2 at Maxton. Because the Controller was not working correctly, we KNOW he was spining it seriously which is about 20 MPH of WHeel Spin. We are also going to a sticker tire to "Try" to remove about 50% of this Spin with him. I only seem to get about 4 or 5 MPH of Spin I was geared 19 / 47 (About 204 and ran 198 + Mph)  I wonder what the Differences is :?: Could it be my extra 100 Pounds of "Traction" I carry with me over what Randall has
