Traded this (yes, that is actually my bike in dad's driveway in 1972) in on my first Big Twin Hog in 1973 during the AMF days............big mistake...........Harley was building really shitty bikes back then, mine collapsed a hydraulic lifter during the first two weeks I had it and left me stranded on the side of I-95. Later, one of the rocker boxes cracked. Shook and Vibrated like a whore in church and shifted like a John Deere that was on its' last legs. Rear brake had no real way to keep it off the disc so you had to buy a spring loaded support that went on over the rear axle to keep the rear brake from being sawed in half by the rotating disc. Slow as shit. Never, ever got that bike to go over 95. (The bottom pic is as close as I could find of a 73..........(notice the horrible striping - I peeled it off in 1 Hour)
Got a grand in trade on the Triumph and the Harley was $2,535 total, out the door. I borrowed 1500 from dad, sold the bike 3 months later for 2 grand and paid dad back, jumped in my 1970 VW Bug and went back to San Francisco for 6 months. Loved that town then.
