talked to dans wife and she said there was a large turnout on saturday. chad made 1 pass on the kws 1000 and went 204. it sounded like all they could get was 3 passes on saturday. dan made a couple passes at i believe 194.

Just rolled in and don't have much to update......sorry.
For the first time in 6 years of going to Maxton I don't even know what everyone ran due to the crowd.
They used the return road for the line up and let about 10 vehicles go thru at a time to the starting area, I bet the line went back a half mile toward the pits. With 3 hour waits between runs there was no luxury of facilities ( toilets, water, etc.) to hold you over 'til the starting area.
With no radio around there was not a way of keeping track of the runs. In two days I made a total of six passes with a best of 193, 10mph off my best there. My old bike with 29,000 miles is like me.......kinda tired.
Chad rode the GSXR1000 that is in this months Motorcyclist that Don Smith built with the help of KWS. First pass was 201 then 3 more at 204. Although it's not the fastest bike he's rode there, he said it's the most fun.

After a long winter and everyone wanting to make the first meet while it's reasonably cool, it's just too crowded with the Hot Rod Shoot-Out.
Good to meet some folks I didn't know. All in all..........still glad I went!
Dan

I heard it was way busy there..

At the end of the meet I was able to get 7 runs in. My top speed was 187.926 mph. I did a sprocket change and was waiting to do one more run to try to break 190 but they called the meet due to oil sprayed on the track. (It would have taken until past closing time to clean the track so they just called it a day). I was ready for more but feel good leaving the meet knowing that, even if I didn't get a chance to do it. It just leaves something for me to do next meet!

Like the others said the lines were long, I waited 2-3 hours between each run all weekend. It was difficult to know more then what went on with the 20 people around you in the lanes. Not to mention if you managed to pull off a port-a-potty visit you'd return to find the lines had moved and you had to figure out in what position you had to return! I was there but I'm waiting to read on the internet what actually went down. Well, other then Walt's kick ass run!!!! That one wasn't to be missed!  :thumb:

BTW, my Cycle-tek shifter worked flawlessly!!! Impressed a lot of folks on the line! (Thanks for making me look like I can actually shift with percision! )

Well a few people may be wondering what happened. Ran my first run after waiting about 3 hrs in line. Did a test run in the  190's, and the bike felt great, but got sprayed with coolant at the 3/4 mark. Went to the pits could not find the leak coming from any hose. Filled the coolant back up and went back in line. The next run at I was at the 3/4 mark, blew coolant all over again, couldn't see after that due to coolant on my shield and windshield, so started shutting the bike down early before the Timing lights. Got to the pits, and the GPS read max speed 214mph, but only went in the 190's through the traps, run felt great so disappointed.
Congrats Walter on the new record....will be back in May......Trillium

Thanks Trillium, sorry about your trouble with the head gasket.  Glad to hear you and Jody will be back in May.  Always a pleasure to see you two.

It seemed like I ended up in line near Deb all weekend, and I really enjoyed her and Todd's company.  Deb's enthusiasm is infectious.  We were all pulling for her.

Hey John,

I usually spray the 40 shot.  The fuel and gas class had the same MPH and the MPH ran in the Fuel class was run n/a I believe.  I have a little bit more in it....I was kinda "in between" teeth gearing-wise  :? if you know what I mean.

I have a newfound respect for naked riders....especially those that go over 200 mph  :thumb:  It was violent but a good violent!

just adding a few pics to my last post. Also figured out that a little blast down the highway on pump gas prior to the meet is what hurt the head gasket.....thanks to everyone who helped me out getting the bike ready for this meet, will have better results next time. Matt

Thanks Matt! Todd ran all weekend, unfortunately it wasn't on a bike going down the track! :rfl: (good thing we've been getting in shape this year!)
I had hoped we would have time for him to make a run on the busa but with the wait in line being what it was and the fact that I was still progressing
with my speed it just wasn't in the cards. If I had topped out the bike & was hitting a wall with speed we would have put him on but there just wasn't
enough time. I guess you could say it was an "all about me" weekend!  :vl: So, as Ellen Guthrie so graciously put it, Todd was my pit tootsie!

Seriously, Todd said everyone on the line was impressed with my shifting! I just chuckle knowing it's because of your awesome shifter! ;)
I bragged about it to my racing buddies that don't have one and now they're all lusting after them!

Title: Re: ***** Maxton Event News *****
Post by: DahMurf on April 03, 2007, 06:13:26 AM
Yup I bumped it up! I ran a 182.4 on Sunday on my first (I don't feel good have a stomachache from too much sun yesterday I'm not going to run fast wawawa) run. Something about that rush of cold air was like putting on an oxygen mask and it just about shot the yukies out. My next run was a 183.7 which I deemed "the perfect run". Wide open throttle, tuck as low as possible (with the DB screen when I get my head down I actually loose wind noise) and my helmet was tapping the tanks. Hit the rev limiter just prior to existing the traps. Couldn't have run it any better for how I was geared.

We were just fumbling around in line when Scott Guthrie asked what sprocket are you running? We had a 43 on the back, stock front. We discussed what sprockets we had and what to change it to. We really wanted a 41 but neither of us had one. So we grilled over our gear calc and decided on the 42. We considered the 40 but we weren't sure how well the stock bike would pull it. Did a sprocket change, grabbed a burger and back in line I went.  Thats when I ran the 187.9. I haven't checked the video yet so I'm not sure where I was in the RPM coming through the traps. I think I was at WOT and don't remember hitting the limiter but things kind of rush by. :D According to the calc we were geared for 188 so those answers weren't too important.

We had some time left in the meet so we hightailed it down to the start line & were changing to the 40t to see if I could break 190. We were almost done and would have had enough time to do the run but they called the meet due to oil on the track.

If I'm remembering the conversation correctly, Scott Guthrie has been between 192 & 194 on a stock busa so any day I can run within a few MPH of Scott on about the same configuration bike knowing I wasn't tapped out, that's a good day! :D

And then at the end of the meet the PBS guys caught sight of Todd & I working on the sprocket change and started filming him. Then they interviewed Scott. When they were done Ellen Guthrie & I were chit chatting and next thing you know there's a camera and mic following our conversation!  So the PBS guys asked if they could interview me. Todd, Ellen & Al the started said they interviewed me for about 20 minutes!  (who would think I could talk so long :rfl: ) Al said the camera dude smiled a couple different times throughout the interview so I guess they got a couple clips they can use. I guess y'all may see me with my borrowed pink hat, and then my messy hair & glasses on PBS! LOL

Oh yeah, I'll have to tell you about the glasses in another post. That's an interesting story in its self!

Thanks! BTW the bike still has reflectors, mudflap, licesnse plate, the whole nine yards!

A pipe is on the list of considerations but I'm not sure what direction I want to go right now.
My goal for this meet was to run a 175 for my B license. I've accomplished that so now I have
to decide on my next goal. I came away from the meet with things to work on for improvement
so that will be my primary focus. Lots of thinking to do over the next few weeks! :)

We missed you at the meet, not that I really would have "seen" you if you were there anyway, but
still we missed you! Will you be there in May?

I was sooooo loving my Tiger goodies this meet!  :hrt:
My chain guard looked sweet, the seat pins, what can I say pop the seat on & off in 2 seconds that totally rocked!!
Got your sticker on my hump! hehehe It sticks out pretty good amongst the black & silver! Once we get organized I'll
post up a couple cool pics Todd took.

OHHH and you know what, I could be mistaken but I swear I saw a Tiger glove box installed on THE fastest bike of the meet!
perhaps the king can confirm that sighting!

You're stuff is top notch Guy & I'm proud to be sporting it! :D Thank you so much!!!!

Oh & you know what, the PBS crew did all of their filming from the back side of my bike. There's a good chance your sticker will make the cut! That would be really cool! (was the hump on or off, oh shoot I can't remember!)

tell Todd he can be my pit tootsie anytime  :rfl: :lmao:

Guy

:rfl: He makes a good tootsie, second only to Ms Ellen the brownie Queen who is most definitely too classy to be called a tootsie!! ;)
Deb

(BTW, my apologies, this is my first run with sponsors and I'm still trying to figure out the right things to do & say without embarrassing myself or the sponsors!!! :D At least I remembered not to swear on TV! :rfl: )

Help me out here guys, we had a guy racing on a busa, he introduced himself to me at the beginning of the meet. If I'm remembering correctly he is from this board & had a screen name something like lovesfastbikes or busas or something. I can't remember his real first name for the life of me. What I do remember is he was as tall as Rich Yancy and I kept thinking it was Rich every time I saw him from the back with his leathers on! He was also SUPER nice and helped us move bikes a number of times! He wasn't close enough in line to me that I could keep up with what he was running. I was just wondering if anyone else knows who he was, what his number was, what he ran? I wanted to thank him for his help but its hard to do when I can't figure out WHO he is! LOL

I got my shifter from http://www.cycle-tek.com/html/completesys.html. He's on this board. Puts the kit together himself. Top notch setup, clean, good instructions, easy to install & good tech support if needed.

As for fastest woman on a busa, HA, not even close. Off the top of my head Susan Robertson has been 209 at Bonneville and Trillium has been 206 at maxton. There are a few other woman riding busa's in LSR but I'm not sure of their current top speeds. I'll have a lot of work and money to spend if I want to join those ladies at those speeds!!!

Deb, that was me you were mistaking for Rich (I just wish I had a 450 hp turbo busa!!!).  I ended up running 191 with an under-pressurized NOS bottle, which I guess is not bad for being 6'6" and first time out.

Congrats on your 187, that's awesome on a stock busa!!!  My buddy could only manage 178 on our 14 with pipe and PC.

I'll be back in June and/or Sep with a bottle heater.  Hope to see everyone again--it was great to meet you and the rest of the guys from the board!

Yes Deb, I have a Tiger glove box and a Tiger chain gaurd, for regular and extended.  If Tiger makes anything I want on my bike, I buy it no question.  Everything they make is 100% perfect.  Guy (the owner) is a class act and a real nice person.

My local shop had trouble getting the extended chaingaurd from Schnitz, they kept sending the wrong one.  The shop called Guy direct and he had one shipped out himself right away to help me out.

The Tiger glove box holds a bottle of water, a bottle of Gatorade, and 3 power bars.  My nourishment between the 3 hour wait times, plus Ellen's brownies!

Sweet! That's a good number for your first time out especially if you know you weren't at 100%!
BTW, it took Rich some time to get to that speed and even longer to get over 2!
Now what's your first name and/or your bike number so I can stop calling you the tall dude?

Not sure if I posted this or not... it's my first stab at making a video, and Deb's 187+ run at Maxton in March.
Some systems may have a hard time running it if they're not fully adobe equipped.

Just learning how to use this bike cam and thought I'd share here for feedback as well.
