Well I have been messing around with a few different exhausts lately. I believe I have found a winner!
Cost me $40 for the mufflers, $15 for the bends, $15 for clamps, and $10 in paint. Not too bad for $80 and a few hours worth the work.

Video Clip!!! http://media.putfile.com/Hayabusa-Cherry-Bomb-Exhaust-Video (http://media.putfile.com/Hayabusa-Cherry-Bomb-Exhaust-Video)
I'm going to nip off the end of the muffler body, and flip the end around and create a dish look at the end of the muffler. Then after some sandblasting I will send them out to be ceramic coated flat black.
What do you think? :thumb:
-
Why?
and welcome to the forum
-
Why not?
Who wants to spend $500+ for mufflers when I could do something unique. I wanted flat black anyway, so it works. Love the sound.
-
i thought it would be a little louder......
-
this is why you spend the extra $$

Sorry man. Not my bag. I don't like all the plumbing to get em up there and it really doesn't follow the body lines. Not to mention I carry a passenger on occasion.
-
pegs can be installed, i opted not to since my passenger has her own bike.
as for lines not following, i think you need to look again at your tractor pipes and re think that comment.
-
who needs all that engineering, tuning, and added performance. Uni-muffs are good enough for civics, then they are good enough for busas!!!
those look like the 2-stoke pipes on my YSR.
-
i dont really care for them either. sorry
-
I'm not digging it either, but to each his own. Definitaly not a mod for me.
-
interesting, but not for me.
innovative , however...
by the way?
do you know Quasar?

Nope.

my old bike here, best pipe i've ever had.

Wow, this place gets OT as much as the .org .
-
Cherry bombs make for a very inexpensive solution to the need for more sound and less restriction.
I've been running one on my CB750 since 1972.
Exhaust cans didn't exist then.
It is a common mod for Ducati Monster rat bikes.
There is no doubt a $500 Ti can looks cooler...but the sound and restriction is about the same.
I'm now liking the cut down cans some guys are using.
Not sure I'd like them on a Busa tho.....
-
Well the look will change when I nip off the tubing at the end of the muffler, and dish the exit in a bit. Will kinda disguise the cherry bomb muffler. Separate it from the universal style it currently has.
-
be sure to post finished product photos. :thumb: i really liked the sound of stock mufflers with baffles knocked out, but they still looked stock. too bulky.
-
I'm sorry but that is so hillbilly spend the money for a real exhaust system.
-
Yeah, no offense, but those look and sound like shat...hey I said no offense. To each their own though. :grn:

IMHO I would like to see high mounts with cut cans...they are WAY too long as they are. Or at least cut down so that the tips are equal to the tail light. That was the single reason why I did not go with them, but instead went the big bird route.
-
Last time I saw something like that, was back in the 80's. Military guy from Ft. Riley had some mufflers like that on his 1000 Interceptor. Sounded like a VW under water..
-
Well you guys are entitled to your opinion... but for my money I got a one off exhaust that sounds nice, and looks how I wanted it. I'll enjoy my other $500 that's left in my wallet.
-
I have to admit that it sounded better than I expected
but then again I didn't expect it to sound very good.
Not what I would have done but still curious to see the finished project.
Paid $200 bucks for these used D&D mufflers (and got my money back out of them)
till I could afford a full Hindle

-
Sounds like the bike is exhausting through plastic.
-
i think it (cdnbusa's bike) sounds really good.
:thumb:
also,
sparky1300r's busa sounds just killer.
:thumb:
-
if your exhaust sounds good then cool. If your wanting something different in the future i got d&ds for 200$ i suppose as you see on bike i got muzzy titanium full exhaust and these slip ons sound just as good. :D
-
I like your ingenuity, but I wouldn't see myself doing that to my bike...I think about the old saying you get what you pay for.
-
I think your finished product will be a good idea, keep us posted :thumb:.
Very interesting
Very very interesting, sorta reminds of a ????????? :moped:
Ok, I quite, if you are going to keep those pipes, you have to cut those tips off. If not I will call Suzuki and have them retrieve there product ASAP
-
:rfl: :lmao: :lmao: :rfl:
-
Sounds OK to me. I like the idea, like to see them when finished. they can't be any heavier than stock mufflers.
Good enough for a old Bic UT player. :D
-
Also no offense, but you took a nice looking bike and made it look like a junk yard bike. But if you like it it's your bike.
-

If they had a suck my dick icon I would post that.
-
That was funny!! Finish them up, cut off the ends then let's see them.
I have a full Yoshi Titanium system (yes with a big glass pack) and if those were available in Aluminum I would ditch that big ass muffler I have now in favor of one of those.
I have to say it, those big mufflers that most of us run are ugly as hell.
I like the new short megaphone exhaust, but they are probably too loud. And don't believe all that hype about HP loss, a glass pack is a glass pack.
-
Ya, I really like the megaphone look as well. If only it had a glass baffle and was a dual setup. Shortly the weather is going to prohibit me from riding. At that point I will pull them off, put the bike up for winter, and finish them up. Look for new photos in the next few weeks.
-
I live near Galveston and it was in the mid to upper 80's here today, I have seven new (two used) jackets and it is still underwear weather here.
-
Ha, must be nice.
Na, I'm not in the Bic clan. Used to be in the @MarkedForDeath Clan...
-

I quess sometimes you gotta think outside the box, I would really like to see some dyno numbers.

i like the sound but not the look...

when I seen the title that you put cherrybombs on your bike i was like ewwwww.....but then after I heard them I was like "aaa it aint to bad" but one thing you can never do is tell ppl that you have them on your bike...haha
since your running cherrybombs you must live down south right?
-
You can always mod the stock Busa cans by pulling out the chambered baffles and installing straight ones. Cost is around $20.00 and they sound pretty good.

i have a set of stock mufflers with the baffles knocked out, they do sound pretty impressive...
-
I'll give you an "A" for effort! They sound pretty good.
Get some "Brock's" nameplates made and put on them!
Keep people guessing!
"Is them the new Brock's C Bombs!?!" "Daaauumn!" "I heard you gain'd 20 hp at the rear wheel!"

I have had a set of slip-on's, also had a 4-1 Arko, now got striped stock mufflers with 3" perferated tube baffled with 500g wire wool in each, BUT I have also removed the restrictive 2 x cat's in the downpipes, efectively a straight through.
They sound louder than the Arko but deeper like a twin, or in other words sound like a smoth twin if that make's any sence, and it looks stock.
As for power:
Between stock and race cans not that noticable slightly more peaky.
Then to a 4-1 Arko masive difference (night & day) more peaky and alot more power, easy power wheelie in second.
Then back to stock, so boring, second gear power wheelie not as easy, huge difference.
Now stock downpipes cut open with both cat's removed then rewelded can's striped with 3" perferated tube & baffled with wire wool. It feals like the Arko not quite as peaky but not much in it, power wheelie easy in second again, huge difference from stock. I think if it goes back on a dyno it will be within about 2bhp as the Arko 4-1.
I wanted a stock look, but wanted power, and nice sound. I dont like all black with black frame swingarm etc but it seam's to be the in thing, but the original bike in the thread does look fine if you like the black thing. Nothing wrong with it at all.
What do you all use to do a sound clip, i'm gessing your phone's. Hear is a sound clip with an Arko 4-1 on my busa, will do one with the modded stock soon.

-
Just thought I would add a few pics of my original downpipe that I cut open to remove the two cat's. One problem I had was because I used a disc cutter it was hard to get exactly back inline, wish I had cut it on the bike then tack welded it & then removed to do the final welding as it was a little out of line (not much) but all ok now on the bike, a little heave how to pull the silencers inline. I have not got a pic or sound clip yet on the bike but will do soon.
First cut:

The restrictive cat:

Now after a hammer and bar:

The remains:

Clamp and weld back on:

Second cat:

Now after a hammer and bar:

All together now:

-
if you're gonna do all that work, why not replace the heavy stock midpipes and the funny shaped x pipe stuff that you cut up with fresh smooth clean new pipe and just cut and weld the flange on the end?
-

Time and alot more work. Where this was 2 cut's 2 welds. If I was to do another I would just use the down tube and do the rest myself. But I cannot tig weld yet not got a pipe bender & wanted to make this as easy as possible. It show's what can be done with limited tool's and time.
-
:thumb: looks like fun... i miss having a garage :(
-
I need a gas bottle and to learn to tig weld, pipe bender, lathe, milling machine, then I would be able to do alot more. I hate being limited on tools, it's all down to £££. I done what I could for the amount of time tools and money I had. Bang for buck. The ZX12r is so easy to do as there is only 1 cat and its easy to rip out.
But this would be a nice mod for anyone with just a set of cans on there bike.
-
Got a little sound clip with the modded pipes.

any hosepower gain?
-
Well previously I did do a little write-up on how the bike felt from different stages etc, I would gess I am about 2bhp down on the 4-1 Arko that I had, there realy is not much in it. I would love to get it on the dyno but I am short of cash.
Project for mid next year is stock look turbo home made kit.
-
i was wondering bout the cherrybomb exhaust. i was jus curious.
-
Why?
and welcome to the forum
it's , not that bad - different i , i give it to you for thinking out side of the box! i would trim the tip's tho - a bit on the long side , but besides that looks good - big bang for the buck!! :thumb:
-
i was wondering bout the cherrybomb exhaust. i was jus curious.
I don't know about HP gain. I can say from the butt dyno I didn't lose any power. The bike 'sounds' more powerful. I actually find myself not riding as fast around the town because I can actually hear the engine. Enjoy the exhaust note. It's not just the sound of the wind.
-
So I take it that the end of the stock headers is 1 7/8 diameter? I'm talking the pipe size that the midpipe bolts to on the header end?
-
So I take it that the end of the stock headers is 1 7/8 diameter? I'm talking the pipe size that the midpipe bolts to on the header end?
When you remove the midpipe off the header you are left with a 1-7/8" OD pipe (ruffly, it's actually metric, but close), and there's a larger diameter sleeve over the pipe. The stock mid pipes actually slide over the 1-7/8" pipe onto the larger diameter sleeve and clamps to that. I don't know the diameter of that.
-
Thanks,
I have access to a pipe bender and a trained professional who knows how to use it. I might try some type of slash cut tips like the boz bros look before riding season. I know that some make them now but I'm going to try and get them a little closer to the arm and not stick out as much.. :thumb:

HMF dual high mount carbon cans for the win... look, sound, perform amazing! and you can keep passenger footpegs and carry passengers i did with mine.
it's a proven fact that men with symetrical facial features are more attractive to women... i don't want a chick with one boob... so i don't want a lopsided bike either :drink: :joker:
and yes... i know my gsxr is lopsided lol :D
-
I think you are retarded. But I actually like the looks better then those HMF high mounts.
-
I wouldn't get too close to those radioactive wheels.

What's with all the haters? Holy shite, if you don't like it, at least be tactful about it.
Don't you understand that this is how innovation and customization starts? Shame on you for such a negative response to something unusual. I would have thought better of the Busa community. But, it appears there are f*cktards with closed-minds on every board.
My props to you, Bowdown, for having the ingenuity to at least try it. It may not be something I'd do, but you get an A+ for creativity, and another A+ for not going absolutely ballistic on these flamers who deserve a kick in the vag.
-
+1 Mike, after all what does it take to say I just spent $1100. on my new xyz 4 into 1 setup I would almost like to see a dyno run comparing the cherry bombs and xyz pipe I will bet the xyz owner will be pissed when he finds out that his $1100 bought him maybe 2-3 horsepower over a pair of bombs
-
:ppcrn:
-
those look great
-
A+ for effort but not a clean look for a precision japanese bike. Innovative, though. The bombs just don't look precision clean but hell it's your bike and if your happy with it, leave it.

You''ll find out in life there's ALWAYS an assh*le that will put out a rude comment in front of you. Especially the ones that can't even afford a motorcycle.
-
They are a great concept, looks from the side is not bad but from the rear they flare out a bit much.
If I had the shop, garage I might have tried something simular, but then I found some HMF highmount
carbons off the forums for 600 bucks and never looked back.
If you could go shorter cans and keep them tucked closer to the swing near the rear they's look really mean, sound great though!
-
Sound isn't too bad, but I personally don't like the look.
-
Forgot this thread was here. LOL

Still not sanded & ceramic coated, but hey...I gotta ride!
-
that alooks a lot better than the first shots i saw... have you thought about making a high mount mid pipe for them? i think that would look pretty good... well, except for your rear fender and turns signals being in the way
-
Na, I don't like the look of the mid pipe bending all the way up there. Just seems like added weight... and eye sore. Not to mention I carry a passenger quite a bit, and I wouldn't want to worry about her burning herself on em.
-
Looks great now. Nothing wrong with homemade inexpensive exhaust systems. I probally would have bought something like that or at least tried it on mine before I bought my HMF's but I never looked back great look and sound.
-

if you tucked them in like the HMF dual highmount there would be no burning problem, i had HMF dual highmount on my busa and carried passenger. of course i had carbon cans that never got very hot... and the mid pipe weighed like an ounce, very thin walled aluminum or ti.
but if you dont like the look then that's all that matters.
-
sparky's bike sounded amazing
-
Being new to Busas, (actually, not even having got mine yet) the only thing that is a drawback to me, is that there is no undertail exhaust option in the aftermarket. If there is, hook me up with a link. And also a link to some high mount exhaust you guys were talking about.
