is it allen head? i cant remember............well anyway bolt is allready jacked so try the next allen or whatever size up..gonna have to lightly hammer it in so its tight whatever u use. being it is recessed into the bar end its about all u can do is try to get something in there tight enough so that u can break it free. of course I'm a body shop tech. so i can be kinda a hack at times  hope it helps.

No it is a phillips head screw. All I know is I twisted it one time and the "X" was gone.

try to use a flat screwdriver in the cross section big enough where ya got to tap it in. then hold it in there with as much pressure as u can and try to turn it.....maybe even put vice grip locked on screwdriver shank to give u some force.

Thanks guys...BusaBoom that screwdriver trick worked perfectly. Once I get a few more pieces I'll post pics when this thing is finally back together...or partially or whatever.

The trick is to turn the whole bar end with your hand to "break it loose" first, before using the phillips head screwdriver...

exactly.

if that doesnt work, LeasingGuy's advice is the way to go.
(screw extractor and/or left handed drill bit)

or you could tap the philips screwdriver into the screw with a hammer repeatedly to imprint it just enough to get it to turn
at the same time slowly try to rotate the screwdriver to get it to loosen the screw
then replace the screw

this is similar to using an impact screwdriver

...and in the future if you have a problem getting them off-have a buddy brace the bike on the opposite side while you use your body weight to apply pressure to the driver while you twist it; less likely to strip the screw head when you do this.  .02
