do you have to cut into your undertail for the rear brackets
-
No
-
then how does it mount in the rear it looks like it mounts to the subframe, or does it mount to the rear pegs like the stock exhaust?
-
Mine is dual outlet high mount..came with S/S brackets ( onto the muffler ) that sat in behind the original rear foot peg support brackets. Used the same 2 bolts into the sub frame..hope this helps
-
thanks for the help

I'm having a helluva time getting mine to clear the fairings up front...
anyone got a pic of the pics without the fairings on? I got mine used so no instructions or pics
-
you will need heat tape inside the fairings.

anything from the front? I wonder if I have the outside tubes mixed up some how..
I did header wrap and that wasn't good enough.... I'll get some heat tape
-
i don't have any other pics but the pipes should only line up one way.
-
wonder if this helps...

ok.... so i don't have the tubes mixed up in anyway... ( it was a long winter I couldn't remember k ;) )
ANyhow, I played with the fitment again today. DO any of you guys have the pipes touching the fairings? I cant for the life of me get it close enough to the motor to have it NOT touch my fairings
even with header wrap and heat tape on the fairings, the plastic still gets way too hot.
-
mine was very close.
-
It will be close, and perhaps touch. They all do that, even on mine. Your best bet, is to get aluminum heat wrap and stick it to the inside of your fairing. And, also use the aluminum soft exhaust pipe heat shield (the kind you can bend with your hand easily) and wrap that around the outside primary headers where it will touch the failings.
Also, it will touch, or be close, to the fairings near the bottow where they turn towards the back. Even now, the very lowest part of my fairings on the bottom have turned a little 'yellow' due to excessive exhaust heat. I've found that this is common. The best you can do is stick a heat shield matting on the inside of your fairings.

My problem is that the left side is hitting the peg but if I move it in it is to close to the tire any suggestions I put in two washers
-
The peg? That's different. You have stock pegs, right? Is the x pipe fitted and snug?
I'll go home at lunch (gotta do it anyway) and see what you're talking about. NOWHERE is it anywhere, that I can see, should be close to touching the back tire. It sounds like the pipe is too far back?
Or, perhaps, upside down?
-
I am pretty sure the pipe isn't upside down and mine is a slip on so factory mid pipes
-
I didn't even know they made high mount slip-ons. May I suggest;
Take a pic and post, perhaps.
Call HMF and ask them what's wrong? Is it possible they sent you the wrong pipe?

her are the pictures it dosent look that bad from the pictures but it is solid it dosent move at all so it may not rub that bad what so you think
-
Yeaaaaahhhh that's a tight fit.
Can you add more spacers to the rear peg mounts to bring them out just a tad further? It would mean having to take the rear cowl off again, but it looks like that may be your best bet.
-
The rear cowl is so tight on that peg I don't think I can put anymore
-
I had to put some washers between the peg and the braket.
the biggest think with my HMF's is stopping them from leaking at the flange
-
The clearance at the tire shouldn't be a problem, as long as there is some clearance. The problem may be with the pipe touching the swingarm when the suspension is compressed. A good way to check is to remove the rear suspension links and push the tire/swingarm up and check the clearance. You can slightly adjust the position of the pipe by loosening the clamps at both ends and twisting it.

Do you have mounting bracket spacers installed right??? If i remember correctly one side was different from the other. And it was definately a tight fit with the fairing.
