As seen on LABUSAS
Dear Suzuki Dealer
I regret to inform you that
Suzuki has determined that a problem affecting motor vehicle
safety exists on certain 2008 GSX1300RK8 model motorcycles. The ignition switch lead
wire may be improperly routed resulting in loss of electrical power and stalling of the
engine. As a result, the affected units cannot be sold at retail until corrective action is
completed.
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) will be issued in the near future detailing the
necessary steps to correct this situation.
All part number and ordering information will be contained in the Technical Service
Bulletin. The parts will be available for immediate ordering when the TSB is released.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. We regard our customer’s safety to be of
the utmost importance. It is for these reasons that we have made this difficult decision.
If you have any questions, please contact American Suzuki.

Picked mine up May 2. This sure has not been a very clear description from Suzuki. Its all hear say. Has Suzuki actually released a statement?

I saw on the 14 site that the 06/07 14's have a serious frame recall..... http://www.usrecallnews.com/2008/05/nhtsa-1138.html
and also a post on the busa recall. The info was that some busa's were shutting down at 160 mph. I've had mine way over that and nary a problem. I emailed Brock and he has not heard of the recall nor is posted at the above site. I'm sure it's coming, but it's not listed yet. Also the 14's have engine knock issues and some dealers are buying the 14's back. Apparently the number 3 rod is different from the others.........could this be from the old ZX11 issue of number 3 rod? Well.............here we go again......

So far so good! :D :thumb: :thumb:

It's not a recall its a bullention! If your bike is at the dealer I wouldn't expect to see it for a month or so! They gotta figure out the problem then send the parts to fix it!
Sounds like some new wiring and a starter switch will be the parts!!
-
I have 2200 miles on my busa and it's running perfect. I'm still riding it..................
-
Had mine since 12/21/07 no problems yet but havent gone that fast. at 3800 miles
-
Talked to SUZUKI dealer here yesterday and SUZUKI said June-6-2008 will release info on checking and have parts for possible fix if required.
-
I got an email back from suzuki...
To start there is a visual inspection...
If there is a problem, of which none have been reported in the US... <shrug>
Parts will be available for ordering for June 6...

Safety Recall can be seen over at Hayabusa.org, including the fix (see post#115)

Can you see what you need to see by lifting the tank, or do you have to remove more "stuff?"
-
I figured it out. I just pulled the panel below the gauges. Mine is routed wrong..........oh well...............

I passed inspection! I'm good...

Well, went down to my dealer today. They tell me that the recalled part is on back order with no clue when the parts will be available. So a new bike just sits.......amazing............
-
Well............got a call from my dealer today. They received the parts to do the recall and the special tool for the work. So I'll have the bike fixed this week..................Thank God.............
-
Recall fix is complete. The tech advised me what he did. Basically replaced the ignition switch housing and the small wiring harness attached to it..........he said the only issue was taking off the security screws that held the ignition housing in place. Glad to have my bike back. The dealer even washed my bike for me............cool..........!
-
I just bought mine last week. I should be golden due to the fact that the dealership was "supposed" to have made sure it was fixed correct?
-
Correct, but call your service department and give them your vin just to be sure........but I'll bet your ok...........
-
:D Had my busa checked out and everything looks good. She's a beast!!!
