Title: Leathers???
Post by: JP4931 on October 08, 2008, 03:36:24 PM
Where is a place to find leathers to fit my big ass?? I am currently wearing size 44 jeans and need some new leathers. I had to sit out this season because i could not wear my MPS leathers and i have the biggest size that they offer. I am hoping that the new Joe Rocket leathers for drag racing will come in big sizes! I hope that Icon decides to make their drag racing leathers also. I am sure that they will offer larger sizes. All of us can not afford or want to put $1200 in custom leathers but if i have to i guess i will. I dont want to sit out another season!!! I know that a diet would be the cheapest way out but also the hardest!!!!!

I had/have the same problem.  It looks as if I'll end up ordering some custom leathers from Spartan.

I sure as hell can't afford the Bates.  :bah:

I was always told you get what you pay for in leathers. Now I feel you guys with the not being able to afford $2500 leathers but you have to look at the thickness, quality of leather and kind of leather being used. Just my $.02.

I have the MPS leathers. They are made in China and they are what they are....Cheap leathers to get you buy until a good set is in your budget! I am looking at the new Joe Rocket "Pro Street" leathers to replace the MPS ones. Maybe one day i will be able to get the Bates or Vanson leathers and be done as long as i stay the same size...LOL!!!

can go from as custom as you want to just the basics.. they do both road racing and drag racing... made to fit your desired measurements and style...

give them a try ask for Meredith and tell her DreamRyder sent ya

I ordered some leathers from Spartan.  Checked all my measurements three times before I sent them in.  Went with the two piece since I don't go to the track too often to justify a one piece.

Should have them sometime in January.  $498 shipped for full custom leathers, not bad.  :thumb:

I just emailed Spartan, gonna ask them about a drag suit..... I need some leathers for drag racing and LSR but I need something $500 or less....I'm a long legged fukker and regular leather pants just don't work on me when trying to drag race....... I also called Joe Rocket and talked to them about their Pro Street suit....looks pretty good for the money but the pants are sized weird.....you can get a 33" waist but that comes with only a 31.5" inseam which is just retarded....I asked if I could get them longer and they said no so.....that wipes them out.... Hopefully Spartan will come up with something, if not, I will have to roll with the gay ass looking, power ranger MPS leathers.....can't beat the price though.

If you need leathers before March count Spartan out.  He waits until he gets x amount of orders then sends it off to the manufacturer, then they make them, ship to him, then he repacks and ships to the customers.

I ordered mine at the end of December and have yet to receive them.

i don't like the generic fit of the MPS even though they are decent for the $$.

I just don't like the tapered leg on them....I want over the boot cut so I can slide my legs up and down inside them easily.....The old road race style leathers give me hell when bending my knees trying to pull my long ass legs back up to the pegs....

As seen here....notice my foot is in the air and I am in some kind of a fucked up position....like a monkey humpin a foot ball...

I took my current (new) taiwan pants and vanson jacket to the local leather shop, they fitted me like a brides maid.... :D

To take about an 1 and a half out of the waist, put a 3/4 around the body zipper for the jacket to zip to(brass HD zipper) and replace the zipper in the crotch with a brass one was $140 total.......its a lot of work so I was happy with the price, lets see how they come out...  The leather on the taiwan specials is a very close match to the Vanson, they are straight leg, over the boot and baggy in the legs......they should work real well if they fit right when done.... I will let you other Heavy Hitters know how it comes out......  Just another option for us broke fukkers with big bellies....

E I was trying to decide if I need to buy another jacket or just lay off the cheese burgers for a while but......luckily, I figured out my Vanson has an adjustable waist thingy on it so I can stretch it out just enough to get my gut in there......If I dropped about 10lbs it would fit me much better but.....just can't bring myself to do it.... :D    Its hell to get old..... I am glad to be in with the Heavy hitters now though....

I dont know if it helps anyone, I dont wanna spend over 1k on leathers but our local tracks are getting more strict.  Alpinestars sells some v-twin pants that are over the boot cut and can attach to their jackets.   still ends up costing 7-800 though.

My Spartan Leathers just came in - they're really nice!  Stretch panels in the knees, crotch, elbows.  Brass zippers on the sleeves, it seems really well built.

For some reason they came out the wrong color, but the guy has offered to replace them free of charge.  :thumb:

I picked up my leathers yesterday also.  I had my cheapy taiwan pants tailored and HD brass zippers added by a local boot shop, they did a great job....Added a 340* zipper around the waist to zip to my Vanson, new zippers in the crotch etc....Did a great job for $150....they pretty much fit me perfect, are thin leather, minimal padding, over the boot fit and very loose in the legs... Perfect for drag racing...  I won't get to try them out until the Tx Mile at the end of the month but they are pretty comfy... :thumb:

I got them off ebay..... I will try to find a link.   They are cheapo taiwan pants but for drag racing, they will work real well....I wouldn't want to crash in em though...actually, I think the leather is decent quality, but the zippers, the stitching etc all suck.  Hang tight, I will find the link for you...

I'll tell you now, the zippers suck. I broke the crotch zipper on the first trip out.....also, the waist is sized very tight.  Go up about 2 sizes over your regular pant size to get close.  I normally wear about a 32-33" waist(33 really fits better cause I'm a heavy hitter now), first I ordered a 34" and I couldn't even get it to snap, then I ordered a 36" and instead they sent me a 38".  It was way big but I kept it....I just recently had about 2" taken out of em.  I think they will be decent for racing...The zippers are the weak point. I had brass zippers installed on mine.

Cool thanks-- I will look at them. I ve been looking for some pants fro the same reason as you--I dont like the tappered leg of race suits and the other leathers are just to much for me right now.The Joe rocket Pro street pants may be an otion if I can get some feed back on the sizing  :thumb:

My Spartan Leathers just came in - they're really nice!  Stretch panels in the knees, crotch, elbows.  Brass zippers on the sleeves, it seems really well built.

For some reason they came out the wrong color, but the guy has offered to replace them free of charge.  :thumb:

so how are these doing? were they as good as you thought? i'm looking at a 2pc Force armored suit. laying out some coin (about $900), but if they are as good as they're supposed to be, it will be worth it. not too bad for a fully custom, mid-line race suit that i can wear the jacket to ride in every day, without having to buy a separate race jumper.
