Title: custom programing

I've got a friend who's pretty good a doing custom programming on diesels, cars, etc...  So here's my question, could the 6th gear limit be programmed out of the factory settings or is it just one of those things that you can't get around witout using the TRE?  With the right connections  would it even be possible to even read the programming or would that require specialized software?  This may sound stupid, but I thought this would be the best place to ask.

Check out the All Motor Talk, subject Hayabusa ECU editor by PetriK. I don't think they've done
an '08 yet, but that sounds like what you want to do. There are some other posts on the subject there as well.
