Title: GSXR 750 RE-rebuild
Post by: trunkbuster on May 28, 2010, 12:22:16 PM
This thread is about a GSXR 750 I rebuilt once and have since modified several times.  My friend bought it back to me again for another rebuild but this time for another reason...  He can't let it die!

This is a pic of what it looked like when he first bought it to me several years ago.

This is a "during" pic of the bike while I was polishing it.

In this pic I was putting it back together and installing a talking alarm with remote start along with accent lights.

Now, the pics I'm gonna put on here in the next day or two are gonna make you cry   Well, at least feel a little sad.  I know I was in shock!  Anyway, I'm starting over again but this time he wants to go with chrome instead of polish this time.

Here's the damage; Dented tank, broken left clip-on, cracked/broken fairing, shattered tail fairing, broken front and rear set, stator cover scratched with a hole in it, swing arm bent, front rim scratched, upper fairing shattered, back of headlight broken off.

Stripped down again.  Getting all the broken stuff off and taking the new and good parts to get chromed.

Here's what he was rolling on when he went down...

A good example of what can happen if you ignore your maintenance :|

Okay, still waiting on the chrome to come back from Cali so I did some body work in the mean time. The tank was crushed in a bit on the left side so I used some good ol' bondo to patch it up

Got a slightly used tail at a good price from ebay :) Had to make some minor repairs to it, though.

The old frame and swingarm will be used for the track bike I'll be building after I bring my Hayabusa back to life :?

Picked up an engine I found on ebay in Tucsan for the track bike :thumb:

On total rebuilds I always start from the ground up. Finished with the wheels except the old sprocket will be replaced with a black one.

I put the swingarm back together after that, bearings and all.

Put the subframe on.

After some grinding and a skinned knuckle I mounted the rear suspension and passenger rear sets.

I'll be starting on the front suspension next.

12 O'clockin' it! Polishing the forks again before installing them then I'm going to lower the frame onto the motor. I'm hooked on doing it this way, got tired of jacking the motor off to get it in

 Major show stopper... The frame the owner bought from the local bike shop is NOT a GSXR 750 frame.  The engine won't fit   I encourage my clients to get involved in the rebuild process but my buddy was a little over zealous and anxious to get it done, didn't want to wait for me to get the frame for him.  Since it was purchased through a bike shop we weren't expecting any issues... :td:  Time for PLAN B :bike:

PLAN B :hys:
He picked up an insurance write-off from a friend, a gently used 2008 GSX-R 1000  :tu: The 750 is on the back burner now...

Found out the frame is from a 2000 SRAD GSX-R 600. The last year of the SRAD design for the 600 model. It will be up for sale soon, if anyone is interested, but it won't have a VIN number on it.  That can be remedied with another damaged frame that has a clear title...  Drop me a message if you're serious about buying it and I'll post it in a private auction on ebay for you.  Only the frame is for sale.

I forgot to upload the pics of the finished GSXR 1K. It was completed about a month after the before pic.
