Title: Sup guys!! New to the forum! Here is my 03 SG Busa
Post by: teezy on August 23, 2011, 03:32:16 PM
This is my first street bike that I purchased back in June. The orginal owner did a HMF big bird exhuast, PC3R and mapped by johnny cheese. The bike put down 169/101 back in '04. After I bought the bike I did the small air box mod and put 93 octane in it...........my bad............................... the bike dynoed 163/94. The map was off but not enough to hurt the bike. After talking to a good friend that has raced busas since 99 I bought a strap and threw a 16/42 sprocket setup on it which shortened the bike to 56 inches. I took it to San Antonio Raceway on a test and tune night. I made 20 passes and went from a 10.58 down to a 9.99@142
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-130-1.jpg)

Here she is...

After that I was hooked!!! So I bought some parts

Trac Arm 60-64'
non-oringed chain
skinko hook up
world wide ceramic bearings
galfer wave rotors
galfer brake lines and pads
schnitz cush drive dampers
cheap trick ram air seals
removed the air filter
buell lowering pegs
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-167-1-1.jpg)

I lowered the bike down in the rear to the last notch on the links and tightened the spring up. Took it the track this last friday and the tire kept hitting the undertail on the launch and between shifts. Best pass was 10.08@139

Gonna pull the crappy PC3R out and replace it with the PC3USB along with a map for my mods.  Also raise the bike back up alittle in the rear! Will be back at it friday night. Then next week install my MPS air shifter!!

Welcome...stop looking on this site now or you will spend lots of money over the next few years :-)  Sell the bike you have, and buy a used prostreet.

I wouldn't waste your money on the PC3usb....not going to make any difference in the performance of your bike over the PC3r, and you will not be able to adjust the timing on the bike with the usb.

You can try an aluminum undertail from Tiger Racing, but you will likely have to raise it up a little to stop it form hitting on the launch.

May want to look into a clutch mod and possibly a clutch cusion kit as well to help with the launch

Im completely ok with that!!! Came from racing cars which is waaaay more expensive to run slower!!

Their are alot of guys around here that have changed from the PC3R to the PC3usb and had good luck. From what Im told the Pc3r is notorious for have interference issues with the crank sensor. Also that it is a much slower processor vs the pc3usb that is suppose to be like 2-3 times faster.

My buddy has one Im gonna pickup from him. And raise the bike up alittle

I forgot to post that up!! I do have a clutch mod, slave brace and 3 heavy duty springs. One of the next mods will be "the rock" clutch setup. My buddy is killer at setting them up and is sponsored by them.

I had the bike mapped at Rearick Racing in Round Rock Texas..  the results!!! 170/99............. I told that when you stretch the bike you loss alittle rear wheel hp. Im also told that dynoing with a drag radial or sticky tire{ I have a shinko hook-up} vs a street tire you will lose 5whp.

Food for thought!!! Holy chit are bikes different!! I loaded a "canned tune" from Power commanders website for my mods. Glad I put it on the dyno. The power commander tunes are the upper blue and green lines on the afr chart.

I have been back to the track since running 10.1@139!! My rear tire is still hitting the tiger tail at the back. I had the stock spring tighten all the way up and it still moves 3-4 inches when I sit on it.  Im told that the shock is done!! So I ordered a penske 8983 setup for my weight and the bike being lowered and stretched from TRAXXION DYNAMICS..

And Im having REARICK RACING install "THE ROCK" clutch setup in the next week!!

Man where to start!!! Well I should start by saying that I have not been back to the track yet. Seems like a chain of events keep happening. I have been working on the bike alot..... improvements mostly!!

I installed a MPS airshifter with Lee's performance bracket. I just kept getting leaks with the plastic lines so I replaced them with steel braid.

I think the GEN1 has 80's lighting. Gauges and lights are so old school. I sent my gauges to BLUEGAUGES.com to have him replace my back light!! Its amazing how brillant the gauges are now!! I cant even capture it on my camera because its so bright. I also had my friend paint the  upper plastics base/cleared gloss black.

HAAA NEW HEADLIGHT BULBS!!!

A buddy of mine put the bug in my ear about the R1 wheel swap. After alittle research I swapped the rear wheel out!!

* Pulled the hayabusa wheel off and weighted it complete!! Nothing removed!! 36.2 lbs then I weighted the 09 R1 wheel complete. 32.2 lbs  4lbs weight savings and rotating mass savings!! SIDENOTE {The marvic magnesium wheels give the same weight loss on the hayabusa...Im very curious to see if what marvic wheels claims is true!!  3whp gain!! ... I have access to a dyno and im gonna use it!!}

I also get the how much or what is required.

For the rear wheel you need nothing but a complete R1 setup. You just have to space the hayabusa caliper over. Now the R1 wheel does rock a t45 sprocket so if you dont wanna run that much then you will have to change it.

The cost will depend on what you picked the wheel up for. I've seen them start around $150 without tires.I paid $229.00 for the wheel complete of ebay. It had a galfer rotor and tire on it already. I added ceramic bearings, vortex sprocket and a exoticycle caliper hanger which added another $300.00 to my bill. But thats not required for the swap!!

As for the front you can contact Steve at Total Performance in pflugerville, texas. He sells a billet axle for $160.00 to put the R1 wheel on the gen 1. After that you just space the calipers over.

Total weight loss is is 6lbs with a BST look. Here is Chaz {Total Performance} with the R1 swap
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-36.jpg)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My buddy's 07 busas fuel pump took a shxt so I sold him my pump and built a fuel system. I have future plans for the bike and figured why wait for another stock pump to take a crap. I will say "man I love bikes" Builting fuel system for cars is 2-3 times what a bikes cost. Did the typical 255 inline, saeoutlaw rail,2 pot reg,6an line etc etc etc! In the process of finishing that up... can only tease right now!!

I picked up a 99 subframe to help the big girl out alittle!! I still need to install
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-169.jpg)

Clutch stuff is finally in route!!
SAEOUTLAW quick access
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/Quick-Access-Clutch-Covers-Hayabusa.jpg)
ROCK SOLID MANUFACTORING  aka "the rock " clutch
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-154.jpg)

And last but not least!!!!

Yes im dying to get it all finished and back to the track!!!

My modded stock fuel pump housing!! 2 weldable 6an fittings............. why you might ask? I want to keep my fuel sending unit. Turned the stock feed into the return. The feed is on the bottom so they fuel will always be there because the stock housing has the pocket the stock fuel pump sat in.

Got the fuel system done. I was alittle time consuming figuring out how to running the lines and what fittings would work with the modding stock fuel pump housing.  The crank case breather plate would get in the way. But with some patiences everything came together. And the best part of all !!!!!!! the fuel gauge still works!!!! I took the bike on a 3 hour ride after checking for leaks. Ran perfect!!!

 Thank you sir!!!

The motor comes off the bike this weekend. I purchased a used Bob Carpenter Head, new billet web cam,web adjustable cam sprockets and a muzzy sidewinder. Its going to Rearick Racing so he can work his magic on the cam degreeing. According to Mr Carpenter the bike should have no problem making 205-210whp. That will be awesome if it does but if it dont I know it will aleast make 193-195whp. Thats what Rearick Racing cam only gen1's busas put down. Im super excited!!

I also recieved a NANO kit {nitrogen assisted nitrous} kit and will be ordering a NLR nitrous controller here pretty quick.

Just hope my legs are long enough to wrap around the crank case while holding on for dear life!!

Congrats. Well done  :tu:

Thank you thank you!!

UPDATED!!
Unforunately my tuner tore the Bob Carpenter head down to check it out because it was used when I bought. He found that the head had one broke intake guide and 2 cracked exhaust guides. So I boxed up the box and send it to carpenter to have it fixed. Bob got it and ended up being cracked through to the water jackets. Said it would be useable on a dry block setup. So it got thrown up on the shelf for the future. You never know!!

Seeing how I already had all the other parts I talking to Jason at Rearick Racing I decided on doing his 1397cc setup with his cam package with my stock unported head. The bike put down 210whp/120wtq SAE on the first few pulls.

Well bad luck struck again. I installed the 2' pan and pickup. I tightened the bolts on the pickup like I have on car motors in the past and never had issues. but apparently they needed to be alot tighter. We took the bike to the track and the oil light flickered in the burnout box on the second pass. We put the bike back on the trailer. Took it back to the shop and threw it on the dyno. It made 177whp at 9k and stopped. Jason said "the motor has to come back out"

He put a oil gauge in it and went to bump it over and it struggled. He said yeap its trying to spin the bearing. So he ripped the motor out and threw new bearings in it along with a HV oil gear and billet shift shafts. he caught it in time so no damage was done. No changes were made.

Back on the dyno the break in pulls netted 206whp 117wtq. After some tuning she made 213whp 121wtq on u4.4 We then put MS109 in it and got 215whp 122wtq. And the grand finalie MR12 which got us 216whp 124wtq.

While the motor was out I went to the track to jockey a bike for my tuner. While there a friend with Rearick Racing nitrous fed cam only packaged  68" busa said " Go make a pass on it"... shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhxt you dont got to tell me twice!! The fastest I have ever been was on my own bike of a 9.38@150!! I went 8.70@157 on it!! Without a doubt the most fun thing I have ever done!! This busa made 193whp na and 255whp on dope. It ran a best time of 8.49@162 in better air with 210lb rider.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsMX2HCySjk&feature=youtube_gdata_player

So needless to say I sold the +6 trac arm and bought a +14 arm along with a used +6 Tail ,triple tree, getting forks cut, lower pro front tire, lowering fender brackets and a round slick

I also picked up a healthier nitrous solonoid with a larger jet and will be ready to wire up the NLR box after some trips to the track on motor. Im looking forward to some 8 second passes!! The weather has been crap here but hopefully clears up soon!!

One personal mod!!! Last time on the bike I was 235lbs unsuited. Im now 212lbs.

The weather app said 17mph that was blowing right at us going down the track. Crazy head wind.

Jason Rearick jumps on it for the first pass....9.00@149!! He comes back and says " let me make a quick adjustment".. Next pass 8.91@151

Next up its my turn.............8.99,8.94,8.92 and 8.90@150

Cut a 1.37 60ft and 5.67@123

A friend was there on my buddies bike. He runs consistent 9.4's@144-145 but tonight he was running 9.6's@138-139. After talking to him we talked to the other guys at the motorcycle shootout. They claimed they were 1-2 tenths slower and down on mph.

Next day went to another track. Running 1/8 mile with no head wind.

Just went

1.35
5.62@124

Equals 8.76

I have to give credit where credit is due. Jason did a outstanding job building and tuning the bike. His 1397cc and cam package is just awesome!!

what's next

Well thats a interesting question. We have been testing fuels...I wanted to see the difference or gains from one to the next. Mainly to see the power vs cost difference. Im here in texas and have a good friend that lives in San Antonio who can swing by the VP RACING plant and pick it up for me so the price is cheaper... So I decided to buy a pail of MS109 and MR12. THe bike already had U4.4 in it. This is the break down on my bike.

COST
U4.4........... $74.00............. 5 gallons................{good to a 80shot}
Ms109......... $60.00.............. 5 gallons..............{good to a 200shot}
Mr12.......... $110.00............. 5 gallons................{all motor}

DYNO NUMBERS
U4.4 213whp 121wtq
Ms109 214whp 122wtq
Mr12 216whp 124wtq

What I will say is that the tune from u4.4 too MR12 did not require any real adjustment. MS109 required alot. As far as power and torque the graph literally chased each other up the rpm band.

We dynoed one of the shop bike with MR12 in the tank. Its very humid that day FYI... The results

MR12....223 whp....132 wtq
E85.....216 whp....127 wtq
Q16..... 217whp... 128wtq

a few days before we dynoed the same shop bike but it was better air comparing u4.4 vs MR12

MR12....226 whp 134wtq
U4.4....223 whp 131wtq

My tuner did a customers bike

PUMP GAS........ 187whp
u4.4................. 197whp.

We will also be testing the fuels at the track to see the differences

Sidenotes!!!

*MS109 smells bad!!! If you leave it sealed in your garage or in the bike it will stink up the place. Put it in a fringe if you have one in the garage.

*MR12 is just nasty!! Make sure after you run it you flush it out with something else. Everyone says it will ruin fuel parts. The throttle response on MR12 is worlds better then MS109 or U4.4 even if the dyno doesnt show the gains.

*e85 is cheap and signed of early

We are gonna be testing M5 next and see what that does.... that might change the coarse of whats next.

Right now the plan is to regear and go to a better track. See what we can get it to run on motor.

I will be hooking the bottle up with the NLR box in the next week and getting it on the dyno tuned real quick. Then off to the track.

Next will be ported head and rods.. and of coarse more nitrous!!!

I think im gonna cut rail it late in the year. Just keep going till it scares me and I say thats enough!!

I had to let the air in the rear tire down to 8psi. The DA was 1518 and 94%humidity.

I went to add some clutch and apparently during that time they drag the track and reVHT it. The bike stood straight and when i came down it broke the tailight off the bike. You can't run without a tailight light so I was done.

Finally got to make some passes after the cut rail. It was different to say the least. Had to make some adjustments everywhere.

Anyway first pass it spun real bad then the front tire was shaking (too much air pressure in the front tire. made a difference now that Im further forward) so i lifted......
1.98 60ft
6.78@121
10.05@144

Second pass it spun alittle then i hit the rev limiter from 1st to 2nd.
1.37 60ft
6.11@119
9.40@149

It was bracket racing rounds next (I won)
1.33 60ft
5.82@104
10.00@98 it was another bike.... The guy made a lot of mistakes. I passed him pretty quick then just cruised the rest of the way out

2nd round I put myself out. Dialed in a 8.81..... Caught the guy and lifted... Didn't lift soon enough
1.33 60ft
5.56@125
8.79@146..... Lifted around 1000ft

New PB
1.30 60ft
5.54@125 1/8 mile
8.75@149 1/4 mile {i goofed and shifted to 6th} a lot of adrenaline is pumping... Need more seat time

My friend and local pro rider made a pass on it
1.24 60ft
5.39@127
8.55@154 {was really humid. track was slick causing the tire to spin on the big end so he lifted} the DA was 1754.. 70 degrees with 93 percent humidity. On the upside I lost 3lbs from all the sweating

Man it comes down to knowing the right person that can tell you what parts to buy and what setup will take you where you want to go... I have been lucky enough to have known Jason Rearick of Rearick Racing for about 15 years now. The man has 3 7 second bikes.. So I dont question what he says or argue with him trying to do my own thing... And it has paid off.. The bike has done exactly what he said it would..

Well its time to retire the stock rods!!  I havent run the bike 1/4 mile because I didnt want to vent the block... but Im pretty sure based on the New PB in the 1/8 that it would have been a high 7.8 low 7.9
(http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd232/TWEAKED03/image-90.jpg)
I still cant say enough about my tuner...bike ran flawless!! Still getting use to going that fast.. went a
5.16
5.13
5.10
the runs before..

Motor is now coming out for rods and some head work
