I decided to start a new thread for all of those that want to want to keep up with Bill's developments after he went down at the Texas Mile this morning.
Bill made a warm-up pass of 208 mph first.
Then I think he made a full pass, but was only clocked at 236. I have heard that he insists that there was no WAY he was going that slow, that it felt very close to or at 300 mph. The data on the bike will tell. The bike survived very well, just the fairing scraped on the left side. The right side doesn't even look like it was in an accident.
Bill has a few broken ribs, a punctured lung (that they probably won't need to stick a tube in), a nicked liver that is slightly hemorrhaging (but should clear up on its own with no surgery), a severe abrasion on the inside of his left knee (so I was told, but given the circumstances it's probably the outside), a broken bottom left index finger that may require surgery (but at a later date), a large gash on his left ankle (I was told on top, but maybe the side) which is not broken (they checked twice because it looks bad) and that has no torn ligaments or tendons, and a bad bruise on his left shoulder (superficial only).
They have him in ICU as a precaution, and will probably keep him in the hospital for a few days.
I was told he has a limited memory of the fall, but this may be due to a possible concussion, and the feel-good meds he is probably on.
I heard he told Billy Shoemaker of Fkawi Racing to leave him at the hospital, go back to the track, and get the track record !!!!!
So now you KNOW he is going to be OK!
I will let him know of this thread so he has something to do while he is convalescing.

Glad to hear he is doing moderately ok. :tu:
See if the logger recorded and take the data to him along with a Laptop. I know you aren't supposed to have things like tat in the ICU, but just open the file in the lobby, hide it under your coat, and stand close to his bedside so he can review the log :bike:

Received this from Bill's sponsorship coordinator;
This weekend at the Texas Mile, Bill Warner had a recorded time of 236 mph. This is a brand new track for the Texas Mile at an airstrip known as Beeville, and was the first time they are running there.
Unfortunately, at the end of the shutdown, the concrete changes to blacktop. Bill was still under hard braking there and went down. There were also some high winds that may have contributed to the spill.
He is in ICU at a hospital in Texas, with four broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a lacerated liver, abrasions to his left knee and left foot, some broken bones in his left hand that will require surgery, and a possible damaged tendon on the left foot that may require surgery as well.
He should be out of ICU soon, and released from the hospital in a few days.
He is expected to make a full recovery, but is in a lot of pain, and could use a few prayers from everyone.
Our good friend Billy Shoemaker, also a talented racer in his own right, lives nearby, and will put Bill up at his place until he can make it home.
The bike only has damage to the fairings on the left side, and appears to be fine otherwise.
Thanks again to all of you for your support, and please keep Bill in your prayers.
-
Thanks for the update Jay :thumb:
Get well soon Bill :tu:
-
Bill is a lucky man. It could have been a lot worse. He can certainly be thankful God He had more for him to do.
You're in my thoughts and continued prayers, Bill. Make it through! :thumb:
-
Jay, good summary.
One small correction and an addition.
correction:
This is the second time we have run Chase field, did innaugural event in May with even higher winds. The County did a buncha mods to the strip after May, and IMO really improved it.
addition:
Bill wheelied in 6th 500'+/- from the finish, came out of the throttle thru the traps and into shutdown, was not blitzing when he fell.
Wind was not particularly strong when he went down, although it could? have been a factor.
He is in good hands with Billy Shoemaker :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Bill,
cool yr jets, rest up.
You took a beating, please let yr body recover before getting after it again.

The 236mph was at the 1/2 mile. For some reason they didnt get the speed at the mile. Last I heard they were going to get the one mile speed out of the computer. Bills data acquisition will tell, but it will not be official.
-
Thats a real shame considering the exspence of the run.
-
I am now lead to believe that the 236mph was indeed the terminal speed and that Bill was coming off the throttle after a pretty sizeable 6th gear wheelie about 500'-ish from the traps.
-
That speed was not from the 1/2. It was from the Mile and it was 239. I was sitting in the ticket trailer watching when he came through.
-
When I talked to Bob Sellers, at the hospital, when he told Bill that the speed was 236, Bill said " no f--- way , 236 is in third gear". :hys: Oops just saw Ryan's post.
-
Could easily have been 236 at the half,
who knows say 275 at wheelie point 500' from traps,
come out of the throttle, trap 239 while decelerating...

Thanks Johnny
Yes Billy Shoemaker and I are working on the shirt thing I will post once Billy gets his bearings. He is a little wore out right now.

:( :(

So far as all the concern, about Bill's responce to the 239 speed, was when Bill was in the Trauma unit.....Let's all remember, Bill was still in shock, at that time.......his memory was some what vague of the accident.....as all of ours would be, He's doing much better now, He's slowly remembering & watching HIS video.....I'm sure more will come out, at a later time.....let's all be patient as Bill recovers.....
The Texas mile speed was probably correct. And Karl's & Jay's report are the most accurate...as I've seen posted.....Let's all just keep Bill in our prayers for a godspeed recovery.
Thanks,
Bob.
-
im glad hes ok!!! hope you heal up quick bill!

I predict that Bill will thoroughly and completely recover in record time and with minimal pain. That is what Morphine, Oxycontin and Demerol are for.......just be cautious in their use, all are effective but addictive.
I have had experience with all three. They work. But they also make ya kinda drunk. I would rather be kinda drunk than in pain and I am sure Bill would agree.
Heal fast and get back on that scoot, Bill. :tu:

Who talked to Bill today, give me something?
-
I talked to him this morning, he got up and sat in a chair and had his morning coffee. He was supposed to meet with the doctors later about what and when. He was in good spirits and talked of racing (Not going to make Valdosta). He was beat up pretty good but he will be back, faster than ever. :tu: :tu: LSL

-
I think that he was going to have his bike in a display with MTC, I'll bug him everyday

236 at the 1/2 mile? He was goin damn fast by time he went through the traps.

He's doing as good as can be expected today, some guys from a local bike shop are coming to visit and bringing pizza :thumb:
-
That should clog him up,lol. Come on with the operation and really getting better. Thanks buddy. :thumb:

When you've pummeled a track like Bill does with his bike, every now and then you get a curve ball. Sorry to hear you are having to endure a bit of a setback. Consider it a time to grow .... faster.
Heal quick.

Sat. 7:00PM EST. Talked to Bill just now and he got the tube removed from his lung. Feels much better and his GF is visiting from Fla. Will be awhile until he can use crutches as he has broken ribs, shoulder and tendon damage to his foot. But his throttle hand is fine. :bike: Thanks to all who have wished him well and supported him as he recovers. LSL

Talked to him this morning. He had skin grafts yesterday on his foot and knee. Sore but that should be all the procedures. Docs have not told him when he can leave but if all stays good I would hope it would be this week. He said when he gets out it will be easier for him to get online. He is very appreciative of all everyone has done. LSL

Everyone,
It is Monday, November 14th, twenty four days since my event at the Texas Mile. First of all, I want to thank everyone for their faithful prayers and wishes – they truly worked. There has been such an outpouring of kindness and consideration for me and my situation. I’m am overwhelmed with the time and energy and love that everyone has put toward my recovery. I can’t count the number of emails, gifts, texts, phone calls, and personal visits that have been delivered to me. There have also been many things that required my attention during the last several weeks, and I was unable to attend to them. Once again, my friends and the racing community has graciously stepped up and picked the slack. I will always be grateful to each and every one of you.
Now, I also want to acknowledge everyone’s consideration in allowing me to focus on the healing process and not asking me to answer all the questions that you have about the crash on October 21st. So, now I’d like to just offer up a little bit of my perspective on what occurred:
The run started out just as planned. However, in 6th Gear, at approximately 270 MPH and at about the ¾ Mile marker, the bike did a dramatic wheelie. At that time I shut the bike down to bring it into control, passing through the speed traps at 238 MPH. Shut down was normal and felt under control. I was aggressively braking and scrubbing off speed as thought appropriate and approaching the newly paved/coated “last 1000 feet of paved shutdown” I had reduced my speed to approximately 100 MPH. At this point all appeared good and I was headed for a completed run. However, when transitioning from the concrete paved track to the newly coated/paved section of the shut down area, with lots of braking still being applied, the bike abruptly washed out, slamming me and the bike to the pavement on the left side. I was briefly knocked unconscious and unaware of what transpired during the next several seconds as the bike and I slid to a final stopping point. As I began to return to consciousness I found myself surrounded by the Texas Mile Emergency Team. After a few minutes of careful assessment my condition by the Emergency Staff, I was loaded into the emergency helicopter and transported to the Spohn Memorial Hospital Trauma Center. Here’s a quick summary of my injuries: road rash on left shoulder, broken scapula, four broken ribs, punctured left lung, contusion on the liver, broken bones on left hand (forefinger and thumb), severe abrasions with significant tissue damage and loss to the left/inside knee area, severe tissue damage and tissue loss to the top of the left foot, to include the severing and loss of the big toe tendon. As any of who have experienced a significant crash, the injuries are only part one, then comes the break fix/treatment work. Nineteen days of significant pain medicine therapy made it a bit difficult to offer very much coherent communications to friends and supporters. But that is now over, and I look forward to seeing and communicating with all of you. The chest tube has been removed from my right lung, the skin graft taken from the top of my left thigh and placed on the damaged left knee and foot, the big toe tendon has been fused, the broken bones have been pinned in my left hand are mending the fractures, and I now focused on the next phase of my recovery.
Once again, my heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you who have been there for me in my time of need. For that I will be eternally grateful.
Yours truly,
Bill

266 MPH WHEELIE!
YOUR A BAD MAN :bike:

That video was intense. The shaking that seems like a head shake; was that the camera doing that, or the bike? All misfortune set aside, that video set up is very cool. Where did you get it?

that video camera is part of his AIMS dash set up, Aims smarty cam.....

266 MPH wheelie   :thumb:
The bike appeared level during the run but leaned left under braking, also the asphalt in the shutdown area appears to be very oily.
Glad you're healing up. :thumb:

Jeezuz Bill, that was a wild ride, even before the wheelie it looks like that bike is a handful.

Freakin' wow.

Really hard to watch that video, The black asphalt reminds me of black ice (Canada winter driving) not much you can do when you start to slide.

what a video. looks to me like when the pavement changed it was like trying to brake black marbles. glad you are getting better bruce

I watched it a number of times, seemed like a good bump transitioning from track to new asphalt in shutdown area. You see that bump and then the bikes down.
-
Bill, hope you had a great Thanksgiving, glad you made it and best wishes for a full recovery :tu:
