Title: Fastest Street-legal bike?
Post by: jbhotrod on February 17, 2012, 01:25:37 PM
Hi all, been lurking/following this site, and specifically Bill Warner`s amazing runs in the mile for a while but joined to ask a question. I know that right now the fastest street-legal cars are running ~6.xx @ 2xx mph with ~2000+ hp for the most part, just wondering what the fasest street legal bikes are doing and who/what is on top atm?

Btw, I dont have anything at the moment, but between the liter bikes out there, which would be best to get if I want to turbo it down the road?

Guess the big factor is "Street Bike"  what one person thinks is a street bike others wont.

For me the fastest street bikes are for top speed is Tommy Gates  he ran at the mile something like 268 and then had it out at a bike night.

And have seen Alen Danials PST bike at a bike night and the run 7.2x-7.3x at 200+ in the quarter at milan

As kurt said, lots of different thoughts on what a "street" bike is. IMO a street bike shout be able to go anywhere a regular every day bike can go without being broke down on the side of the road. I would say with a stock chassis/decent ground clearance/can go in traffic without overheating/stock clutch and a wheel base short enough to not turn like a semi truck I would think there are guys in the low 8's. Anyway with compairing to the cars your talking about which are "street legal" the PST bikes have been in the upper 6's and LSR bikes that are crazy fast and probably more streetable than the cars your compairing to.

Notice I said "street-legal". I know there is controversy between something that is street-legal and something that is streetable. I was merely wanting to know what is the fastest bike period that can take off and hit the street with nothing but a tire change and different fuel if needed. Also, yes the standing mile bikes are very impressive. I try to follow what Bill Warner is doing over there. But I feel 1/4-mile ETs/trap speed give a better idea of how fast something is to people who dont know better. I know that Larry Larson has ran 6.90s @ 200+ in his 2300hp TT Nova which is actually quite streetable from what I hear, is there any bikes out there running a comparable ET/mph? I dont care if its the most uncomfortable thing there is and noone would sanely ride it on the street, just if its street-legal in race form or not. Mainly because Ive ridden in one too many Novas/Chevelles/Camaros/etc that were "street-legal" but noone in their right mind would take it out in 90+ degree heat, high traffic, high amount of streetlight areas to where the definition of "street car" becomes quite skewed. Just wondering if there are street-legal bikes that can run like is all. Do yall have more info on those PST bikes? What is the unabbreviated name of the company?

PST = Pro Street

They are street dot legal, which as stated already have run in the 6.90 region.

"PST" is not a company, it's an abbreviation for a race class called Pro Street. http://www.mirockracing.com/classes/

You question should bring a whole lot of people tossing their idea of "street legal"

That part is most likely left the scrutiny of the officer on site.

I recently learned (last 3 years)  that I have never owned a completely street legal motorcycle in the state that I live in.   Not a single one of them is fast.

New bike that is turnkey fast will be the BMW for a bit  I think.
Mods will close the gap, but It's hard to go new and not drop $16K + when you toss in the basic stuff most people will do.

Yeap, define "street legal".  In my state, to be street legal you basically must keep all the lights and reflectors on the bike in the OEM location.  Most local ordinances make it illegal if your bike is louder than stock and you can't run anything but pump gas and nitrous is far from legal....

Doesn't matter what state you live in if you violate federal laws.  Here in Iowa we have no problem with a reasonable aftermarket exhaust system but technically it is not allowed per federal law.

PENIATATOR....the HTP bike could not ride the streets the way it was set up for racing. The fastest bike riding the street would absolutely have to be a turbo bike.

If im not mistaken, the htp bike has a convertible clutch from hays. So I figured that it could. And on the street its a matter of traction, not hp imo.

again we are going by street legal not street practical. of coarse most of the 7sec bikes arent practical to ride on the street but they can be.

If I am not mistaken the htp bike is dry blocked, auto trans, and  it has a hays clutch in slider mode. Good luck with street riding that.
You could adjust the hays clutch back to a multi stage, but what are you going to do about the dry block and auto trans for a street ride?
they gave the nitrous bikes alot of "extras" to get them to compete with the turbo bikes.  Turbo bikes in pst could be rode around town.  If the motor/nitrous bikes take full advantage of the rules givin to them their is no way in hell you could drive them around town.  auto trans, slider, dry blocked.

I am not up 100% on pst rules as I do not race the class or follow it that well.  I believe they gave the nitrous bikes a lot lower, or no weight limit, 70" wheelbase, and 2" ground clearance.  Turbo bikes have alot higher weight limit, 68" wheelbase, and 3" ground clearnace.  No auto trans, or sliders.  I believe the turbo guys were complaining about all the extra breaks for the nitrous bikes so they gave the turbo bikes 69" wheelbase for the last race of the year.
Again.  I am not 100% on the rules so someone correct me if I am wrong.  :tu:

Ryan Schnitz is the fastest street legal bike in the world period, with a 6.90.

The man is asking what is the fastest street legal bike, not streetable. Pro Street bikes are all street legal, every single one of them! No cop is checking for auto trans.

He asked for fastest street legal bike.... The answer is Ryan Schnitz with the HTP Busa at 6.90.

Results are here:

Let's try this again ... the fact that you have Nitrous on a vehicle makes it illegal for the street or "not street legal".

Just based on FHTSA/ dot rule 108.   I'll bet not a single  motorcycle raced in any class on a typical MiRock event is street legal.

I think there are quicker bikes AND some could be much quicker than 6.90's.

Those bikes are all built for the class.....build one with no rules or very little and the times would get even lower IMO...

I wanna see that STREET LEGAL HTP bike make it down 5 miles on the road ...gas up and ride back......i say it can"t.It is very easy to ride a 7 sec turbo bike anywhere. What makes it street legal anyway???Cause it has a head light and tail light??????But the set up makes it impossible to ride on the street......so i think maybe STOZ would be it...but again have not seing his cooling system.
