Whats a good tire for a 68 in, 200hp Busa on a thin and not prepped track ? I know the Shinko is cheaper , but I'll pay tha difference not to worry about it spinning . Thanks !
-
Best choice right now is power 1
-
either of them is good.
-
What's a power1?
Do they run a lower MPH like the old M/Ts used too?
I want ET AND MPH.

Has anyone ever tried a car tire? Its straight line racing so the cornering aspects of the tire don't have to be considered. Just a thought...BTW, does anyone use rim locks?

My shinko spins on the rim

Back in the olden days when I raced I used rim locks to prevent that.

Aren't beadlocks heavy ?

Power1 best tire out

Ive had great results on a shinko hook up. mid 1.3s are my best so far. mount the tire dry to prevent turning the rim in the tire
-
how did that power one worked out? is it good for drag racing? I've allways used shinko, but wears too fast. Looking to try something new with good traction, and at the same time usable on the street.

Power Ones are great. And low 7 second pro street bikes use them so yes, they're good for drag racing.
-
Know this is an old thread BUT we are looking for a new rear for our turbo drag bike. Our best time is 8.39@180 currently running a hook up and having rim slipping issues but we found at 22-24psi it only spins a half inch per pass and does not lose pressure. i have a power used power one here that we were going to try but we were wondering if a 003 u soft would do any better.
Yes the tire was mounted dry and we sanded all of the coating off the bead so it would have a better grip surface
-
Power has a power 3 out, just came out 2 months ago, I bought new(Bridgestone) BT 20S for my 1397, after I seen the New power 3 at the shop I was like dam, They look so stickier on the rack/lack glue. I think powers are the best tire out there
-
power 3 huh ??? Hmm
-
Michelin Power Cup replaced the Power 1 this year. I haven't tried it yet.
-
Has anybody tried the new tire ?
-
all i have heard is that it is not nearly as good as the power1
-
i have a power cup but i havent used it yet. at first glance it feels lighter and is extremely sticky. but ill know more this coming season
-
I havn't had any issues with my hookup. I don't lose tire pressure, but I have never checked to see if it is slipping on the rim. ben running them since they came out. I run down to 12psi. most I run is 15psi. I ran mid to low 1.4 sixtys. 1441 ran 8,84 at 158 na. 8.53 173 on a 80hp shot. ran up to 176mph with a 100hp shot, but it did no shift very good on stock trany.
the 003 u soft definatly does not hook as good as the hookup. on slower bikes that street ride a lot the 003 u soft has a better/rounder profile for street riding. hookup gets a little sketchy in the corners when you get it on that edge.
I am running the hookup on a chrome pvm 5y wheel. so it is really smother/slick where the tire bead sits.
-
Are you sure that tire isnt slipping on the rim? You went from a 8.84 to a 8.53 with a 80 shot. You should have picked up more than that with a 80shot. Mark the tire and rim to see if it is spinning on the rim.
-
i will bet you its slipping a LOT at 12 psi
-
it should have went faster. I was making enough power NA that I could not spray in first. spray 30% in second, and 100% in 3rd. fully dressed street bike with +8 tail at 66.5" wheelbase. 207 rider weight in shorts. I also only made probably 6 full passes on the nitrous all year. bike was mainly a e.t. bike. I won a lot of races on it e.t. racing. I never ran the nitrous enough or tried to run it to its full potential on the nitrous.
if it was slipping on the rim wouldn't it lose a little tire pressure? Guess I will have to check it this year.
-
It wont always lose pressure. My shinko spins everytime I make a pass.
-
Anyone trying the new Michelin yet ?
-
I'm ball'n on a budget , so I'm gonna try the Shinko first
-
the shinko is tried and true

Aren't beadlocks heavy ?
Please don't take this as I'm trying to correct you because I'm not but rim locks and bead locks are two different things, rim locks generaly go inside the tire and pinch clamp the tire to the wheel in two or three places, they do not weigh much at all, very popular on dirt bikes, the bead lock wheel is a two peace wheel that pinches the complete bead between the wheel sections, and yes beadlock wheels weigh a ton

Oh , cool . You learn something everyday . :-)

This reminded me of something, back in the day and I'm sure some guys still do it, but with cars we used grade 8 sheet metal screws to screw the tire to the wheel, on the cars we used 8 or 10 sometimes more on each side, and I know I'v seen them on hill climb bikes, don't know if its even legal at the bike drags anymore?

Anyone trying the new Michelin yet ?
I used the new Michelin supersport all last summer and it hooked great. Pulled the front tire off the ground at 50mph with 280rwhp instead of spinning, and this was on the street.

Geesh, I usually get dinner first! lol. Its 6" over. There was a time my gate was stuck at 18-19psi (380rwhp) which is my max on pump, and I had to short shift 2nd because it was pulling the tire up instead of spinning using the new supersport on the street.

Anyone using the Reactor 2?

Anyone using the Reactor 2?
thinking about it, tried the first one and it wasnt quite as good as the MT. it was actually a little narrower, but i believe they widened it a bit on #2
-
Im thinking about trying the reactor 2 as well. The price is very tempting....110 bucks.
-
I ordered a Reactor 2. I can't get the bead to set because the sidewall is so soft. The tiedown trick doesn't work so I ordered a Cheetah. The compound is really soft but it looks like it has more like a 6 patch than 7 inches. I'll measure it again when I've got air in it.
-
you need one of the rigs for seating the bead on a tractor trailer tire. had to do that on the reactor i tried.
-
I'm thinking Shinko Hook up now
-
What's a good starting pressure for the Shinko Hook up on the track
?
-
Start at 12 psi and see how that works for you.
-
I'm thinking Shinko Hook up now !
The 180 / 55 hookup will give you a lighter tire ~ and believe it or not " a flatter contact patch " . . .
