Title: STANDING 0.5 MILE, OVER 200 LIST
Post by: Got-Busa? on June 29, 2012, 01:52:26 AM
STANDING HALF MILE OVER 200 LIST

The purpose of this list is twofold:
         1.  To recognize the 200+ riders for having the passion/obsession & stamina to achieve 200mph on asphalt.
         2. To energize those people to go even faster by making it easy to see how close competition is.

This is just a great idea !

Anybody, anywhere that goes
over 200 MPH - especially in
only one-half mile - deserved
recognition !

Members should also think about
including The Florida track,
the Georgia track, and Europe.

NICE work, you are "DA MAN" :thumb:

BTW
it is "J. Colt Bateman" rather than "Cole Bateman"

Should we also recognise people who have run
over 200 MPH in the 1/4 mile, or is that a seperate list ?

That should probably be another list.  Anyone have time to go through the DRAGBIKE records real quick?

why would you put 1/4mi speeds on a 1/2 mile list?????

But josh can do whatever he wants, he is the list owner. :thumb:

I'm just askin.......

In some race associations, if you set a record with
a 1000cc motor that is faster that the 1350, 1650 cc
records, you also "get" the "bigger" records, too.

So, I'm askin': if you get 200 on a 1/4 mile of
pavement, does that apply to 1/2 mile, 1.o mile,
1.3 mile, etc. ?

No is fine.

Better to make the decision now.....?

Post by: entropy on June 29, 2012, 12:42:35 PM
i KNOW WHY I am maintaining Tom's over 200mph list; that purpose is stated right on top:

The purose of this list is twofold:
         1.  To recognize the 200+ riders for having the passion/obsession & stamina to achieve 200mph on asphalt.
         2.  To energize those people to go even faster by making it easy to see how close their  competition is.

A. anyone who has tried going 200 knows it is harder than it seems.

I easily sit up at 160.
I can sit up at 180, not advisable but i've done it.
B. I cannot sit up at 200.

So for me, and apparently Tom who started the "over 200" list there is something a lil magic about 200.

If there a purpose for maintaining a bunch of other lists, please state the specific purpose for ea list and then get after it. :thumb:

I have spent a career in project management and the
1st question we ALWAYS ask before we start doing anything, is "why are we doing this?"
2nd question is "do we have customers who will pay for this effort?"

Honestly, i see very few customers for most lists other than over 200 = idle curiosity

This is so true.
The general public thinks you buy a new Hayabusa and head to the mile.
They all go home not understanding what just happened to them.

As long as you keep posting stuff that is not related to the thread topic....YES!

No 1/4-mile speeds should be in this thread anywhere, this is for HALF MILE ONLY!!!!

1/4-mile speeds should be in the DRAG FORUM section in it's own thread... ;)

There is only one rider in the UK over 200mph in the half mile if you do not count the drag strip results over the quarter,
Phil Woods 207.0 mph Elvington June 2011.
Its very rare to run "halves"over here and it was only tried for a few meetings in 2011,Phil was by far the fastest on his turbo busa dragbike.

Woohoo, a new '2 club' - I went 201.25 in the half mile at Maxton last weekend. Amazing to think about how many meets I went to trying to go 200 with nitrous, or 200 with a turbo, and it turns out all I needed was a big honkin' motor!  :thumb:

There is only one rider in the UK over 200mph in the half mile if you do not count the drag strip results over the quarter,
Phil Woods 207.0 mph Elvington June 2011.
Its very rare to run "halves"over here and it was only tried for a few meetings in 2011,Phil was by far the fastest on his turbo busa dragbike.

Harold Wolfenden ran 203.9 at Elvington in 2011 on the same bike that Becci 'Angelpaws'Ellis ran 231 at the last top speed meeting.

Any info on the bike and setup?

Thing is most of these bikes are setup for the 1-Mile so they use 1/2-mile for testing.  I think if changes were made for the 1/2-mile ONLY, speeds would go up for most..

Looks like it took place at the Qatar Mile.  They do round 1 as a 800m event, I guess?   By the looks of their facebook page it looks to be a high dollar event.

The video on the right side of the screen about a page and a half down shows the fastest vehicles in the event.  If that is a N/A Busa it must be really, really built.

Isn't that a rolling half mile?

Good point Fred.

I wonder how fast (and: how far?)
the "roll" was that run ?

If you start 10 feet behind
the start line, is that a "roll ?"

20 feet ?

100 feet ?

This list (I assume) is for 1/2 mile,
NOT 1/4 mile, NOT kilometer....

I guess the OP will
figure it out.......

Isn't that a rolling half mile?

The H2R/car grudge runs weren't done from the 1/2-mile start point.  They were done 140-158' before the 1/2-mile times.  However, those events don't excactly run everything from the same spot so IMO the results are all questionable.
Title: Re: STANDING 0.5 MILE, OVER 200 LIST

The main thing is it is not a standing 1/2 mile. I know in the "Old days" at Goliad they were not real rigid on pulling you to the starting line.People would try and stage as far back as possible. The starters got wise and now you must pull up to the line. Ten feet can be a few miles an hour. :D

Fred:

I think that you are correct that even
10 feet would be an advantage.

Using Ben Beckert as an example,
we could calculate that if he took
an extra 150 feet in the 1/2 mile,
he would be 2-4 mph faster in the lights.

In any case, I have no doubt that
the H2R, properly set up and ridden,
would do OVER 200 mph in the 0.0 mile.

Not fast for a $50,000 bike,
but not bad for "buy it and drive it....."

Just back from doing a Shift-Sector 1/2 mile event outside of Indy.  Went a 211.47 on my first day.  I had air shifter issues on my second day that got in the way of me doing a faster run, kept killing the engine and blowing the airbox off into my chest with a nitrous backfire.

Now I do want to make public clarification.  The Shift-Sector folks were all excited about my 211 run.  I was excited because the bike drove straight and it was a nice clean pass.  Well anyway, they apparently never had a bike at any of their venues over the years nor with the wannaGOFAST venues ever to break 210.  So they have made a big deal about it on all their social media stuff, etc... about it being the fastest 1/2 mile pass at a 1/2 mile only event.

Congrats again, I am so glad you got it done.  I wish it would have been as calm as it was on Saturday, that crosswind certainly didn't help anything.  Can't wait until next time.

I have seen a data log of over 240 mph for a half mile. That was eight years ago.   LSL   :helmet:
