Title: 2009 'Busa max power normally aspirated?
Post by: Mike Borders on August 13, 2014, 05:14:22 PM
Sorry if this has been asked before, but was curious to know what is the high end of HP that can be reached with an UNBLOWN 2009 'busa motor up to 1.5L?  I know in the past I had a 1400 stroker 'busa in my Radical that made a reliable 225 HP, but was curious what it would take to "max" one out?

Application for the engine would be standing mile and El Mirage/Salt Flat events, max run time per run of 3 minutes (salt).

Thanks,
Mike B

P.S.  Spread the word, we are trying to get approval for a Magnum (1.5 mile) event at Mojave on April 11-12, 2015.  When we get it, we will let everyone know.

I'd talk with Knecum, but depending how radical you want to go CC, compression, etc. and $$ spend I'd say 260-280+...

My 1630 Gen 1 I got from Larry Forstal made 260 and it was an older build-- more may be made with a big valve head perhaps.

Our Busa or zx14 race engines make .166-.168 hp per cc no matter the size.
With pump gas compression its a little lower at .155-.160 hp per cc no matter the size.

Some of our extreme Busa engines are making .180-.185 hp per cc for grudge drag racing.

Or there running our head and cam packages.  Bikes like "area 51"  "sandy" "cocaine" "the caddy" bike among others I am sworn not to mention ... :)

Are those crank numbers or tire numbers?

If your talking a money is no object build, and having considerable experience with car race engines I would have to say the Busa engine in 1500+cc could get 300 RWH or poss more, but counting all the research, cad/cam work and dyno time, the cost would be way past a lot, carpenters websight says they have a combo making 290, so who knows with unlimited budget and a redline rpm of who knows what ?.........I just had a thought we are talking N/A on race gas? because if any fuel is allowed you could get 300+ from a backyard build

My standard 1340 makes 0.136 :( with Micron slip ons only.... ( that's 181.9 at 9700rpm)

Does anyone have a good map I can have ? (Gen2) and how much can I realistically expect from a stock motor ?
How did you manage .174, what's been done to your motor ? Thanks :)

Carpenter Head, big cams, 16-1 comp. The rest is TSS. My 1340 made 230hp on MR12, oem gen2 crank rods and pistons, carpenter head and big cams. Some of my TSS( top secret shit) Is Knecum building the motor and Johnny Cheese tuning. Damn I am giving away all my secrets!! :hys:
