Title: The way they should have made it.
Post by: 1vapors on August 27, 2015, 10:20:47 AM
This is how they should have made the new busa look.

I'm sure that I could figure out a way to make it feel lighter .  .  .

I like the first and second pics, and the wheelie is neat also.  When I get mine back, the hump will be put on it.  With the rear wheel 4" further back, that hump will make the bike look more complete/balanced.

No cornering for you eh, just straight line speed?

As a Busa owner and a guy who has worked on and raced them for years, I still think they are all horrible looking. Always have been to me.

Making power, good to go....good looks, pick something else.

Good thing I don't pick a bike for its looks :-)

Red's Busa is 4-6" over and I don't know of any SWB guys in our area who can hang with him in the corners. :tu:

Some cornering, but mostly sweepers and doglegs, no hairpins.  4" should not kill the ability to ride a few corners.  I would hope. Bike will have Brock's remote reservoir (compression and rebound dampening)  shock on it set for my weight.

Yes I’m afraid I only do strait lines.  Most guys out here that do corners end up taking a helicopter ride.

also lost about 12 lbs going this route

To me the end of the bike should be the body work, tail section, not the rear tire.

A Busa is not a bike for "The Dragon".  It is a Sport bike that can be ridden from coast to coast and back again (with a good, higher set of bars) with the limited ability to take Corners, up to a point.  It varies with the experience and skill of the owner/rider and his or her experiences. IMO, it is a great bike for long sweepers at speed, as long as the rubber is good.  And yes, it is a straight line missile, especially when the motor has been "breathed upon" by one of the big, reputable guys/shops in the Industry............a man that can tune............a man that can squeeze every last HP out of it without building a "hand grenade".  Men like Johnny Cheese and Rodney Williford and a dozen more.  But, these guys do not grow on trees.  Ya gotta find 'em, do "bike speak" with 'em and trust them with your most precious possession.  Once again, I say, "Quality does not cost, it pays."

I saw a new gen2 Busa with BST's, a Brocks pipe with carbon fiber tip, and handlebars instead of clipons tonight....it was missing an engine, cooling system, and fairings though...

Here is an eye catcher.  Love the Ram Air scoops but would not paint the windscreen............might have the windscreen chromed with one-way mirror coating so you could still see thru it........that would be trick.

What bike is that underneath all the customization and parts swaps, seriously, is that a busa or a tiller or what?

Dang, I never even knew they existed....................what years?

1998-2003 is what I found.  A big V-twin with good top end power.  Now I see where the hump came from on the Busa in 1999.

I do like the air intake scoops.

Hey, man, we got so much rain and wind last night my cellphone gave a loud screech like I never heard and began jumping all over the table...........we went under and emergency flood warning about 1AM while I was dozing in front of the Samsung in my easy chair/ottoman.  The yard and driveway are full of tree trash this morning and the birdbath is overflowing.  Pumpkin, my 20lb Tomcat, stayed out all night in that stuff and came in wet this morning.
He must have hunkered down somewhere and waited it out.

We are in store for more today/tonight.  My gutters, which were clean until this storm, are full of leaves and sticks.  My bike trailer, covered with a canvas tarp has about 2 inches of standing water over the center of the rail.  The tarp protected it from debris but it got so soaked, the trailer is wet underneath, but a bit of water should not hurt it.  I might go out later and check out the Yadkin river about 2 miles from my home..........I am sure it is raging today.

That makes us blood brothers, I paid 1135 for that bike new, out the door in 1968............I was 20.

Had to keep after those points though, adjusted 'em about every 1500 miles.  They wore down quickly.  Used the cellophane off a cigarette pack to set the gap.........somewhere around 13-14 thou if I recall.

We ARE brothers...........I started riding in 1968 and here it is 2015 - and yes, I had a couple of breaks, like Nam and my first marriage, but for 90+% of that time, I have always had at least one bike, and sometimes as many as 4..........for 47 years.  Shootin' for 50........and then some.

I always had a hastle keepin' mine in tune,I remember it having a no battery/magneto system and if I remember right(45 years ago really stretches my memory )it had dual points, always popping bulbs, etc.
Title: Re: The way they should have made it.
Post by: Ghost-Geezer on October 06, 2015, 10:59:16 PM
Yeah, when I rode at night and wound it out, the bulb in the headlight would get brighter and brighter as the rpms went up, and then it would pop.  Friggin' magneto did not bleed off excess current...............later they added a Zener (sp) diode to solve that issue, but my '68 did not have one.  All those British bikes had dual points, the Harleys had a single set.

My 74 Norton Interstate, which I rode from DC to San Francisco via L.A. was a great running bike.  We put a single 40 mm Mikuni on it in place of the stock carbs and it would pull an honest 115-118 indicated.  Cruise all day at 70 without a burp.  Wore out a brand new rear tire on that trip just gettin' there one way.  Bike cost me 1200 used, but only took 3/4 of a quart of oil for that 3300+ mile trip. (Ran straight 50 weight Wolf's Head oil)  That was in 1978.  I was 29 and turned 30 in San Francisco.
 :bike: :tu:

Ended up trading it in on my '79 Low Rider.  Gave me a grand in trade on the Low Rider which was priced at $4,995.  Kept that Hog until 1997 and it grew during that time from 80 cubic inches to 109.  Sold it for 9K.  Bought an 1100 Kawi and have not looked back since.  :tu:

Traded this (yes, that is actually my bike in dad's driveway in 1972) in on my first Big Twin Hog in 1973 during the AMF days............big mistake...........Harley was building really shitty bikes back then, mine collapsed a hydraulic lifter during the first two weeks I had it and left me stranded on the side of I-95.  Later, one of the rocker boxes cracked.  Shook and Vibrated like a whore in church and shifted like a John Deere that was on its' last legs.  Rear brake had no real way to keep it off the disc so you had to buy a spring loaded support that went on over the rear axle to keep the rear brake from being sawed in half by the rotating disc.  Slow as shit.  Never, ever got that bike to go over 95.  (The bottom pic is as close as I could find of a 73..........(notice the horrible striping - I peeled it off in 1 Hour)
Got a grand in trade on the Triumph and the Harley was $2,535 total, out the door.  I borrowed 1500 from dad, sold the bike 3 months later for 2 grand and paid dad back, jumped in my 1970 VW Bug and went back to San Francisco for 6 months.  Loved that town then.

What year was it?  Had to be a 68 or earlier with no Zenier Diode.  I think the 1969 or maybe the 1970 bikes had those Diodes.  If the valve cover on top of your engine was smooth, it was a 65 or earlier...........the fins went on in 66, I believe.  Mine had fins.

We are gonna hafta hook up.  Since you work, and I don't, I will have to purchase an enclosed trailer and haul my scoot out there with my little Ford Fusion and we can do some California riding together.  Ya got a spare room for old Davey?  It could be fun, especially if we went on a group ride with your buds.  I just gotta figure a way to avoid the mountains cuz my car is a 4-banger with a cat-back exhaust and a K&N cold air intake, and light alloy wheels with racing springs/lowering kit and it can only pull 2,000 lbs on level ground.  Is there a route that would do that/keep me from having to burn up my automatic tranny?  Car is a 2013 with 27K on it and I run Alisyn Less than zero in it with Petron............runs great.
