Title: 1476 vs 1441 Gen II
Post by: MJ Williams on December 12, 2015, 11:58:27 AM
Could I get some input on a 1441 vs. 1476 for my Gen II?
It is the same cost as far as parts and labor. It seems likes the 1441 is the choice when it comes to a reliable overbore but not much discussion about 1476.
With the overbore engine I'll be using the bike at mile events and the occasional road ride.
Thanks

Mike, Bob Carpenter told me that Busa motors really like a 84mm bore!

Stick with the 1441..................yer only talkin' 35 more cc's.  That ain't shit when you got guys (like you) runnin' around on 1600 cc built motors.  Stay low and just add a bit more compression..............all that 93 pump will take.  Run two lithium ion batteries.........they each only weigh 1 & 1/2 lbs.  You will have a ball.  IMO.

Hey Mike go for the gust. Get one of those Carpenter 290hp 1635s.

Thanks Fred, I think!!!!
Maybe Santa will drop one under the tree.
Then again I haven't been that nice this year, if Santa drops something warm and smoking at my house, it probably won't be an engine.  :beechug:

Why are all Funny-Cars and Top Fuel cars blown instead of turboed?  Gotta be the lag-time, right.   Santa is askin' here.  :tu:

Only issue with the 1476 is head gasket sealing. I believe you have to o'ring it. It's a helluva motor when properly assembled.

What is the bore on a 1476?
Title: Re: 1476 vs 1441 Gen II

The bore for a 1476 is 85mm vs 84mm for a 1441 on a Gen II. You see a butt load of 1441's out there but the 1476's not so much.
Leads me to believe there may be something on the 85mm bore that causes issues. Especially when I can get 1476 parts cheaper than 1441 parts even though the they are the same manufacturer just different sizes.
Inquiring minds want to know!

If you decide to go with the 85mm pistons, don`t send your gen2 cylinder block for reboring, find a gen1 block, gen2 is just too weak.
Using 85mm bore is ok as long as you keep it in order, no overheating etc

As I said before Bob Carpenter says the Busa really likes a 84mm bore. For the 30cc diference I would go with the 1441.

Even with a 1441 kit, I would get the Gen 1 Cylinder.  Gen II is too weak at the "windows" spots.  "Crackity-crackity".

You can do a nice 1472 with your Gen 2 block. 83 X 68

Thanks for the replies. Decided to stay at 1340. If Mother Nature will cooperate at Bonneville this year I have some unfinished business.

You WILL have problems with the 1476 if your gonna ride the bike around town daily and especially if your a high rpm rider. ! it will have Head gasket problems and other issues, You can ride a 1441 harder and not have problems. Use Gen 1 cylinders if your gonna use NOS. Gen 2 will crack with NOS. I had 2 Busas with the 1441 and no problems. Friends had 1476 and Kaboom!! when out riding hard.I have another busa 2012 gonna leave stock bore but will go a little higher on compression gonna Port and Polish head and do the big cams gen 1 cylinder for NOS

I am pretty sure I am not going to Mojave this year. I haven't talked to Brenda about where she wants to go. I need new leathers before I can ride. When i do it will be the1350. Greg Neal and Brenda will ride the1657.

Brenda got a stock motered drag bike of her own. She has been riding one of my bikes for the last four or five years. Last year Larry Forstall built a bike, 1700cc full Catalyst LSR body, for her to ride. It didnt happen for various reasons. Hopefully she will get to ride it this year. If it is not at a meet that I am going to she can ride my 1657 that she has been riding the last couple of years. Maybe a shootout out of the Forstall bikes, same rider.  :hys: She will not be coming to Mojave with the 1700cc bike, it is in Philedelphia.

No thank you. I was stationed at McGuire AFB in NJ right across Delaware River from Philly for nine years. Not so pleasant city...

Ok, thanks Fred. That was it, i was waiting to see how fast is the 1700 bike. There is couple 1700cc n/a bikes coming to the mile at this side of the pond, or at least one. I will stay in the 1600 class  :bike:

I was stationed at Ft Dix Mcquire for some years too.  You have to be very careful in Philly
