Guy Martin has announced he will not be racing in the TT this year.

One of these years . . .
Me Too!
-
I think Guy had a long think after his nasty "off" and broke his back in the 2015 UlsterGP.......
Guy hasn't raced since.
The crash.

Joey Dunlop documentary.
Well worth watching to see the names, history, glory and tragedies.

Me too, but it would cost thousands. I imagine a room would be about 400-600 bucks a night, not to mention the airfare, food, local transportation, etc.
I should have gone when I was bucks-up once-upon-a-time with my son............now, that opportunity has passed me by, unless I hit the lottery big time.

My Lord, HOS, it is worse than I imagined! Not thousands of dollars, but tens of thousands. Popular race, huh? Whew!!!!! $$$$$$$$ Right up there with The Superbowl packages. And then some.

You gotta remember that it's not a day race or even a weekend, several classes race including side hacks and just (one) lap is over thirty miles long! We've all hauled azz for short periods of time, most of us, very short periods of time. Imagine what it must be like to ride full out on public roads for thirty plus miles and then doing it again and again WFO...Joey Dunlop was super human.

But there is also your beer money for the week to add. The TT partying is integral and pretty fierce!
The US DOLLAR to Pound Sterling exchange rate doesn't do you any favours either. £1 is about $1.60
-
$1.45 as of today. And yes, there is "party/entertainments" also to pay for...............more money.
-
For all the IOMTT & Dunlop family fan's there is an awesome documentary narrated by Liam Neeson on Netflix called Road. Must watch.

Who on this site is the most experienced road-racer here? I wonder. I am talkin' about a real knee-dragger. It sure as heck ain't me.

I would bet ADMIN can drag a knee................I can "sniff out" a good rider and I would go so far as to say, he, at least has his Amatuer Racing License.
-
I could drag a chicken wing to go with my chicken strips. Ever since that wild turkey exploded in front of my tire in an 85 mph sweeper I slow down for the corners

Damn, man. That musta hurt. I had a dove splatter itself across my chest at 100+ in a downhill sweeper years ago and it felt like I had been hit in the chest by Mike Tyson in his prime. I could hardly draw my next breath and had to pull over and "recover" for a while. My chest bruised up pretty good from that. Lucky I did not go down.
-
Yikes! You're lucky the beak wasn't pointed towards your heart!
No, I have been lucky. Of all the roadkill me and the Busa have created, not of it hurt us too bad. But I did get a pretty good goose egg on my head just testing an old dirt bike when my dog at the time thought he should protect me from the snarling beast. He darted out of the yard from behind a tree and I caught him broadside. I flew over the bars, he slid across the pavement to the curb and laid there yelping in pain and out of breath. Kids all saw it go down. We went to the vet who pumped him full of saline and sent us down to the university hospital in the Twin Cities. We were about halfway there when family noticed I was pretty banged up
-
Dog was just fine. We left him overnight for observation, he came trotting out with three college girls who thought he was the coolest dog evah.
Few hundred bucks later that is.
-
Glad the dog was OK and that you did not break yourself up. My worst injuries have been in the dirt............Honda CRF 450............busted collarbone, broken foot, severed patella tendon..............now that stuff hurt. Took 5 months for that tendon to fully heal after they re-attached the severed ends together. Sucked.

Very sad to hear about a rider being killed in practise.

TT 2016: Johnson takes Norton close to 131mph lap
Australian Dave Johnson was satisfied enough with seventh place for the Norton in the RST Superbike race but says that he and the team will be working hard, and testing on Wednesday at Jurby to make changes ahead of the Senior TT in which he is looking for better things despite setting a 130.872mph final lap.

What a dynasty the Dunlop family has in that race! 8). It's a wonder it hasn't been shut down with so many killed over the years. Can you imagine the top 6-7 GP riders doing it? I'd bet that JLo would chicken out and come in last (if) he finished a lap...and Marquez would likely kill himself. The Duc riders would somehow take each other out  and Rossi, Vinales and Crutch would be the top three.
-
The exchange rate is very favourable atm.
If anyone is thinking about it, the time to start making arrangements is now.
