Title: Hi All! New Busa rider entering the forums...
Post by: Sinister_Outlaw on March 29, 2016, 12:41:20 AM
Hi everyone! My name is James, 12-year veteran of the Navy and new to the forums. I just recently purchased my very first Busa as of this past Easter Sunday (March 27, 2016). I picked up this 2011 Busa with only 13,700 miles, and custom paint job and absolutely LOVE IT! I attached a few pics so please let me know what you all think, as well as any mods I should do immediately. This is a stock bike, except for the custom paint. I'm glad to be a part of this community!

Welcome.  Wild paint for sure.  Have you looked under the plastics?  Are they the OEMs?  I have a Gen 1 but just about everyone I know with a Gen 2 replaces those huge cans.  It dresses up and lightens up the bike considerably.  My guess though, seeing what looks like, rear stunter's pegs, is that those stock cans haven't been on there for awhile.  Hard to stunt with those cans w/o scarring them up.  If it has been stunted, here's hoping there's no unseen damage.

Thanks, glad to finally be here! Sport- The stunt pegs were placed on the bike because the previous owner sheared the back left passenger peg off after it was dropped turning around in a parking lot. So he put those on instead of re welding or buying a new set. Plus, the guy I got the bike from was an older original owner (probably 45-50 yrs old) on active duty with SEAL Team One, so Im 99% sure he wasnt stunting or anything on it. I will have to look into exhaust, what exhaust do you guys usually run on your busa's?

Well that's good news!  That left can would've been severely rashed if the hit was hard enough to shear off the peg above the can.  Maybe he had different cans on it then.

That's a good point, well I hope nothing creeps up out of nowhere, for now the bike runs great with only 13,700 miles.

13,700 is just about broke in. :tu:  My 06 has 65,000 and still runs perfectly.  Want to take it for a ride?  :bike:  A number of us are heading to Fortuna on May 21st for the weekend.  Heading up the coast on Friday and back on Sunday.  Ever seen the giant old growth redwoods?  Some are coming from Colorado and some from as far south as yourself and Victorville and some from as far north as Canada.

Nice, sounds like the Hayabusa's are pretty much bullet proof! That ride sounds like a great time, I'd be up for going for sure. Thanks for the invite

Welcome James,

Paint looks great(and expensive, that cost a few bucks for sure). As far as mods. go I'd look into a Brocks full exhaust(I went with the Short Meg over the Alien Head[performance is identical according to Brock]just because of the removable baffle)with his PC which comes with his map which is pretty close to being spot on(not as good as a dyno tune but will get you close enough),you'll drop 35 lbs. over the stock exhaust and likely pick up 10-12 hp.Along with that I'd have your ECU reflashed to turn off the pair valve and top speed restriction, raise the rpm limit by another 500,etc.(pretty standard mod these days and usually runs around $60-$75 depending on who does it). These couple of mods. will improve performance quite a bit and you'll definitely notice the difference. :thumb:

If you're ever headed up the 15 some weekend stop on by,I'm about an hour north of you.

Jeff

Thanks for recommended mods Jeff! I also got your PM and will definitely let you know whenever I plan on being in your area. Was looking to ride North today but things took longer than expected at the dealership. While I was there I made an appointment to correct the rectifier problem, apparently there was a recall issued awhile back. Has anyone on here fixed their rectifier?  On a brighter note, sitting there for as long as I did compelled me to pick up a new Taichi rider jacket and helmet...

By the way, Welcome James....Stay away from Jeff, he is bad news.  :hys:

As for mods, I'd pick up a pair of gloves. Hands don't like sliding on pavement. tears them up even with gloves, but not as bad.

May want to consider a full face helmet as well, at least for rides that are out of the city. Wind blockage at higher speeds and chin scraping along the pavement blockage are the two main reasons.

Last piece of advice, don't necessarily think you need to keep up with the guy in front of you, or impress the guy behind you. Chances are they have more experience riding 180 HP motorcycles that are heavy in the turns.

Oh, and you'll probably want to put a turbo on it soon, something in the lower power, street range,  like 450HP or so   8)

Lol, thanks for the advice!  :tu: The picture I posted on here doesn't really tell the true story. I have a full face helmet along with a pair of gloves. I actually wasn't looking to buy a bike on Easter Sunday. I came across a great deal on my 2011 while I was out with my other half doing some grocery shopping and the only helmet I had with me at the time was that cheap half helmet which had been sitting in the trunk of the car serving absolutely no purpose what so ever (Until I needed to get my newly acquired Busa home). For right now, I am getting used to the dynamics of the bike compared to the previous (lighter) liter bikes I have owned. This bike is in a league all it's own on the corners, so until I learn what "it" likes and doesn't like so much, I won't be attempting anything too extreme just yet. Haha, a turbo system would be nice but I think I'm going to wait a little while longer before I decide to sign my own death certificate. However, approximately how much does a lower tier turbo system run and what would you recommend?

Ha...the word turbo will get ya everytime. :hys: :hys: :hys:

The best advice I would give you regarding a turbo would be to not talk to me about it, ever again, and under  no circumstances should you ride a turbo hayabusa at all.  :tu: 8)

John Boy/sportbikeryder is just givin' you the business James(how easy it is to get hooked on turbos/boost ),he has one of those 600 hp/7 sec./200 mph in the 1/4 mile jobs he built and rides(his avatar,in case you hadn't noticed)...I give him a hard time whenever I get the chance.

Haha, yeah the imagination can either be my best friend or worst enemy from time to time. In this case, I'm imagining what It would feel like to have a turbo assembled on my motor and the euphoric bliss I would feel as I strum along the road with 400+ horsepower between my legs and at my disposal with just a flick of the wrist. Hmmmm, I imagine my lady might be jealous of that though.
