Title: 2mm Cranks
Post by: C_Henry on December 22, 2016, 09:31:51 PM
Is a stock Gen2 crank as dependable as a billet 2mm ?

On spray, a 1441 built with a stock 2mm crank does well.  Engine is big enough to make good power even built for nitrous in mind and has the dependability of stock pieces.

However, while I haven't tuned one at the shop yet, the new APE billet 5mm looks tempting considering the price for a billet piece.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking is running this with some spray on top.

This combo on spray is what I'm thinking about

Main difference is oem has cross drilled oiling. Billet will typically be a few lbs lighter as well. As for strength, the oem crank likely won't be the weak link.

Thanks!

Besides a stronger material, and deep nitriding,  the direct shot oiling is a huge improvement over oem cross drill. WE were able to do that on our busa cranks, but we have declined to do ZX14s because we can't do the direct shot with the Kaw oiling system.
