Shane Stubbs went 248 naked (track record), and I believe 230 in the half!
Yup! 230.5 in the half...naked!!!
-
Unfortunatly Greg Watters went down at about 228mph in the braking area, he is ok, was up and walking straight away, reported to have a broken thumb and lost a bit of skin, very lucky boy !!!
-
Yes. Very lucky! Do you think it had anything to do with the short shut down?
-
I texted with Greg, and he is fine, broken thumb and some scrapes as you note Roo. Sounds like he was on a hot pass on his 750, and his brakes were a bit soft, missed the lever a bit, then tucked the front end trying to make up for a little lost time. So if he had unlimited shutdown, sure, he probably could have ridden it out, but I don't know know how much extra shutdown would have made the difference. Anyway, he's fine.
Shane, the Tredway bike looks great!! Greg said your pass looked silky smooth, congrats on the track record :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Wow yeah lucky!
Amazing, the wealth of experience and exceptional situational awareness could also be factors.
Here, you can have one of mine :thumb:
Hope the rash isn't too bad and the medical staff is your type :biggrinparty:

The runs by Shane Stubbs were impressive. They only ran a few time, but each run was smooth and faster than the previous. That 248 run was so smooth it didn't look near that fast. Amazing run.
We saw Greg Watters unfortunate fall - saw the blue smoke from the tires - didn't know at that time if it was a braking issue or a mechanical issue that locked something up. Glad to see him get up from that one - especially with only minor injuries. 228 from a 750 - incredible!
Lot of impressive speeds from this weekend
-
228 from a 750, yup, that 'lil ole 750 never fails to impress 8),,
245 naked, how in tarnation dose he stay on that thing :D, now that is impressive !!!
-
These records mean nothing, they are just club records!!! Real records are held at Bonneville with FIM officials there only!!! not SCTA. GPS is the only exception!! That is all!! :bike: Its 248 !!

I'll just say - "records" or not - these are some very impressive speeds! And very respected efforts to achieve them.
I personally don't care if a person is going for the "fastest black bike with red rims" or whatever, as long as they are working to go faster. Personally I'm trying to get a 30+ year old motorcycle to run faster than the highest speed I know of for one these, from a magazine article in '93. It'll never be a formally recognized "record", but anything above 214.285 mph will make it the "fastest Yamaha FJ". It'll be just for self satisfaction and bragging rights, but for some of us that's enough "validation".

A buddy was trying to have a MPH higher than any other oil cooled bandit 1200 that he could research, lost interest when he bought a 2017 camaro
Now he races that :)

I'm being sarcastic!!

It's quite impressive that the standing mile and standing 1.5 mile aircooled records are 249 and 262 mph respectively. With 5 gears, not 6!!!

I know Sir - I was following the other thread, and adding a little sarcasm myself. Seriously, I think these "club" records are what keeps the fire burning in a lot of guys. An besides, wasn't there this guy named "Bill" that went 311 on a sit on bike?! But then again, who cares since it wasn't an FIM record!!!
edit - I've been following pavement land speed racing since the Maxton days, but I didn't get active in it early enough to be able to meet some of the greats that aren't with us any more - Dave O and Bill Warner, and others. I'm impressed as I research something on different sites and find myself reading and heeding something these guys have posted -- still helping people years later.

Holy crap! That's some serious speed for anything! Do you have any info on the bike that ran those? I'd love to learn more.

DAS oil cooled GSXR1100 Thomas C riding it
Buddys oil cooled bandit is NA with nitrous not turbo so he is looking at ~180 Mph

Mike Gallucci had his immaculate 94 GSXR out there again. Last year went 194 with a wet kit. This year had some issues and ran 186 I think. Those oilcooled Suzukis are still very capable machines.

Thanks Nosgsx1300 and SEJ
Gotta love the full tuck, head down, front wheel still off the pavement!
I found a writeup on the Loring runs too. Well executed and well ridden!

It's also hazing the rear tire.

they were having a boost controller issue if memory serves me

Yep Colorado was interesting to say the least
The bike i dropped was the Busa , shakedown run under good power to about the 3/4 then eazed it a bit to run through at 228
and was pretty happy with the 209 half mile untill i watched Shane, i have a lot of catching up to do to run anywhere near that ;)
Found a combination of things that contributed , hitting the lever with my fingertips at first attempt was compounded by my hitting the limiter in each gear and as i found later bending the throttle blades
anyhow, i landed lucky and did not hit much , broken thumb, lots of bruises and a grazed palm
i figure it was between 180 and 200mph they tell me i slid for 1001 ft and i do not intend to repeat it
EMS guys were great , as were the staff ,
Ryan if your looking in please thank everyone involved again

Front Brake application was the problem
for Karl Gunter and Bill Warner at Texas,
At similar speeds, they almost died..............
