Hi
Here is my little project. I have in many months dreamed of making a 5 cylinder Hayabusa engine and now it is for really ;)
-
Some more pics
-
looks like a fun project.
-
any reason to stop at 5? i would think a 6 cylinder would be only slightly more work?
pretty cool project!
-
Wow.
Reminds me a hybrid V12 (and V4) made of two V8's (LS1?).

6 will be to wide and Cbx, Benelli Sei is 6 cylinder. I want to do something different.
I will come with more picture later :)

Cross-plane, like an R1 ? Please be sure to post an audio file of it running when you finish it....

Crossplane is not like this.
yes I can but is along way to go yet

Today I have finished my jig, it has specs form every main journal for my engine. This will line up every main bearings very well ;) I think
-
While intetesting, I'm not so sure having 4 throws at 180° and the 5th at an obscure angle will work out with regard to balance.
What are your plans to valance the assembly?
Do you have a plan for line boring the mains? While a AR inserted may keep them close, I can't imagine they will remain close after welding.

Yes I will line boring the mains, one main is little out, but I will fix it. I think balancing will not be a problem, I will use bob weights maybe. This is a prototype engine and maybe it will run late 2018, I dont now
-
Maybe you could contact this guy. He's a magician when it comes to doing things like yours.

Then is time to weld the blocks together :tu:
-
Wow man. Absolutely outstanding theory, planning, thought and execution in your project. Ingenuity is the mother of invention.Good luck brother
-
Here is some another pictures, Cylinder head and Cylinder jug is completed :)
-
WOW :tu:
-
Very cool. Lots and lots of welding there!
-
keep the pictures coming.. cant wait to see it finished :pinkie:
-
I want to hear it
-
Looks like it came from the factory like a 5 cylinder and I mean that as a compliment!
Good work
-
Brilliant :)
how did you connect the oil gallerys ? plug and external connection or internal sleeve or something else ?
and have you normalised after welding ?
-
Some more pictures :)
-
Will be external connection between right side to left side. I wil send more picture later.

Very neat. What will you eventually be using to provide fuel and spark for this engine?
-
Very good work, not your everyday build...I like that a lot. :thumb:
-
I will use pump gas
I have a Ignitech ignition module for that job. But is only 4 channel, but I have svolved that problem.

A little update :)
-
Since this isn't a cross plane design...what will be your firing order?
-
New spigots for my Mikuni TDMR carbs was needed to fit stock gen 2 intake boots. They fitted extremly well  I took some time in my lathe to make it
It just need to balance my crankshaft then I can begin to put it together

It will be 1-5-2-4-3
-
Here is a video of the first start up of the Hayabusa inline five

Sounds great...Good job.
-
Schwing!!! :thumb: :thumb:
-
Nice..... I am speechless
-
Truly impressive!
What are you going to do next with the engine? Will it power a car or a bike?
-
Outstanding. Truly a beautiful demonstration of your engineering skills, and attentiveness to detail. Just a masterpiece of a motor I know quite well. Your an amazing machinist.
A.
-
Awesome job. Next step...turbo ;-)
-
The next logical step is making a 6-cyl busa engine! :D
-
Whatever happened to this project ?

Whatever happened to this project ?
It is finished. He is now working on a GS1100-6 cylinder engine. a much easier task... and one that are going to be put to use :)
