Title: 2 dead cylinders, 2 and 4 need help
Post by: Kuma on January 04, 2018, 10:04:11 AM
back story, Gen 1, in a mini sand rail, had an issue with fueling, it would idle fine and rev up in neutral but under load it would stumble past 1/8 throttle, determined that fuel pump pick up was clogged, replaced the fuel system with 100 micron pre filter, 044 pump, 1:1 regulator and filter prior to fuel rail, ran great!
next day started it up and was running bad, determined by pulling coils that 2 and 4 were not running, swapped coils, swapped spark plugs, the problem did not move, pulled injector rail all injectors squirting. checked compression, not great, 150 +/-5 at all cylinders.

I'm thinking the next thing is swap injectors and see if the problem cylinders move? sort of at a loss here, is there something else common to cylinders 2 and 4 that could cause this?

12v power to the coils or ground
Suzuki harness's stink

Could you elaborate? the coils are getting spark, at least when you pull off the plug, why would it effect only 2 and 4 and not be more erratic?

In the past I had horrible issues with voltage drop to the coils
I had spark, but it was WEAK

And as far as effecting only 2-4    the hackey way suzuki does their harnesses anything is worth looking into

Put a new set a plugs in it, they are cheap.  Start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes.  Pull the plugs and see what they look like.  Could be the injectors because of the dirty pump/filter or the wiring harness.

I swapped the injectors and the dead cylinders followed the injectors so I'll be buying a new set, non turbo motor, anyone used the injector sets found on ebay for less than $40?

here's the update on this, picked up a set of injectors from ebay, I have an event timer so I am able to accurately turn on the injector for a specific time and measure the flow, injector 1, 220cc/minute, injector 2 is 200cc/minute, the other 2 are flowing at 275cc/minute, I also checked the flow rate of the 2 good on the motor and they are also at 275cc/minute.
so right now I have 4 injectors in that flow 275cc/minute and it at least is hitting on all 4 , idles and revs good, I'll have to wait 'til superbowl weekend when I head back out to the desert to see how it actually runs. for those that don't know this is in a mini sand rail.
so if you are planning to buy "new" injectors from ebay, be sure to check them before installing.

PS, I checked an injector from one of the bad holes, it flowed 75cc/minute!
