I have my Busa motor, at least the bottom end of it, apart on my work bench. It's been making a new humming noise when riding. But only when the clutch is engaged. I narrowed it down to the tranny ... or so I thought. After getting it all apart ... "it all looks brand new", as my friend Bryan said when he inspected it after I did.
We can't find a damn thing wrong in there. The only two question marks are the small bearings at the end of the counter shaft and the primary shaft. There's the shaft, surrounded by a needle bearing, surrounded by a cap, which sits in a journal. The bearing is completely smooth and looks perfect. However there is a very little amount of play. With the shaft out of the case with the bearing and cap on, the cap moves ever so slightly when twisted. We're assuming this is normal, but are not 100% sure.
Then there are two gears in the middle of the counter shaft. They sit in one place on the shaft and do not move. They rotate on a ring that has splines on the inside. So you have the shaft, then the ring with splines on the inside but smooth on the outside, then the gear that sits over and rides on the ring. It's all smooth with no sign of wear or tear but the gears have a little play in them. The play is between the ring and the shaft, not between the ring and the gear. This seems normal also, but we're not 100% sure.
Any ideas?
