Title: Scary's Bling'n TurboBusa is No more...
Post by: Scary-Jerry on March 04, 2005, 10:12:23 AM
I will do my best to acknowledge all of the major contributers along the way.  And again, a special thanks!

These are the before Pics...
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/Scary-Jerry/Hayabusa/MoreChristmasStuff020.jpg)(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/Scary-Jerry/Hayabusa/MoreChristmasStuff022.jpg)

Ok - Here we go...  This is what I'm having done:
Wheels are actually at Custom Works Plating via HammerChrome for Chromming w/Red Chome spokes.
Swingarm is getting the No-Box Mod & Under-Bracing via Doug at Spencer Cycles.  And then it is off to HammerChrome for bling... I'm tired of polishing!

Here is an in progress shot:
The Triple Clamp & Billet Stator Cover are being chromed by Jon at Sport Chrome as a trade deal.

I've modded the front fairing to prevent the air from blowing inside at me.

The Mirrors I will be using are the CBR-XX to be used for turn signals too.  I have clear lenses for them from Charles at Street & Track.

CBR-XX Mirror Mod
The mirrors are close to being a direct bolt on.  You will have to route the wires through the upper fairing and you have the choice of using the XX running lights too. (3-wire versus Busa 2-wire)

You must drill a hole to match the Busa's mounting flange:

To allow a bolt to fit, you must bevel off some material when the mirror is folded:

And here are the clear lenses from Charles at Street & Track:

I will be doing the graphics with the help of a local paint shop.  I had an Airbrush artist lined up but I had to cancel as She needed my bike rolling.  Chromers are taking entirely too long! :?
The colors will be Blue & White with a Red logo...  I will leave it at that for now.

Title: Lowering the front fender for clearance
Post by: Scary-Jerry on March 05, 2005, 09:54:44 AM
Lowering the front fender a 1/2 inch for added clearance.

This is old, but shows how I did it:

Note the rear hole has to be drill and the plastic trimmed - No other mods to the fender itself.

I used standard 530 chain link side plates.  Just tap the bottom hole to use the original bolts.  The top hole must be opened up (drilled) to permit the securing bolt to pass through it.

You may have to elongate bottom hole in the black plastic gromet for proper fit (not the fender).

Note the rear fender hole.  It is nearly perpendicular to the front top hole.  Drill large enough to accept the plastic gromet and trim away the excess fender plastic so it doesn't rub the support post (where the bolt attaches to the fender).

Be sure to use a sixty (60) series profile tire for added tire/fender clearance and you will have no worries.

If you want to go lower, use 630 Chain side links, I don't recommend it though.
Title: Water & Air Tank Location
Post by: Scary-Jerry on March 05, 2005, 10:13:46 AM
More old stuff, but again shows how I did it.

Water tank location:

Water & Air Tank.  Note brackets, they are very secure.

Water tank viewed from above.

Here shows how well it fit inside the fairing.

Soupy's Trac Triple tree Bars.
To prevent the controls from hitting your dash (note my dash around the the outside lower edges.  And they prevent the throttle cables from rubbing the inner plastics, maybe I'll paint mine now?).
With a little shaving (grinding) of the right side controls and re-drilling the location hole, the Tether Kill can be made to fit nicely.

Billet Oil Pan Mod for making a Full Pipe fit.
I have been beggin anyone to do this as I knew it could be done... So I did it myself!
It clears the Velocity 2.5 inch pipe under the pan and it does not interfer with the oil's swivel pickup!
If you have access to some aluminum pipe, just slice out a section and insert.  I bent mine fron some sheet stock I had.
It is a tight fit and not all exhaust are the same, so be sure to measure twice.
I would rather ding an exhaust than bash my pan!  And now I can swap exhaust without swapping pans too...

no soup, you wont. just gives a bit more room for lowering and stuffing a big fat compressor and intercooler in there. I have a Catalyst 60 series fender. fits a 60 series tire like a glove.

I estimate about 1/3rd of a liter less now - Or back to about the stock capacity.
If some would measure a Billet pan with water and pour it into a measuring cup, I'll do the same so we can know for sure...

Well... my wheels still are not back from the platers so my airbrush artist could not do my painting for me.  So I will be handling it with the help of a local paint shop.   Talk about trying to communicate "custom paint" with nothing but broken English...

Here is the start of a four step color process:
First the Red

As the colors come in for me to do the taping, I'll post pics.  Hopefully it will be done in a couple weeks.

You won't be seeing much of the Red when it is finished.
But it should match the Candy Red Chromed wheels and set off the other colors really nice.

The Red is actually going to be used as a 'Kanji morphed into somewhat of a Phoenix'.  Think about it...

That's enough of letting the cat out of the bag for now...

I'm running an Oil Cooler too, so here are some pics of all the return lines.
Not to mention, I modded my pan to fit a full exhaust, so it may not completely resemble yours.  Hope this helps.

Next the Pearl White

Here it is with some of the Red exposed...
My painter got ahead of himself, now I have to retape it for the next color and later, shadowing.

Next will be the Blue... Imagine that; Red, White & Blue.

Lowering Link upgrade
Note the old, not very straight, :?  I would recommend to anyone using the 3-hole links to lay a straight edge against them, mine sure weren't.

The Old - BDE (Not Junk)

The New - Spencer Cycle, Thanks Doug

Doug's will permit your bike to go lower too.

Here is the 3rd installment of my four color step process:
Dark Blue

And so you can get an idea of where I'm going with all of this, some of the red has been exposed to check how it matches the wheels.  Not  bad for guessing. :D

One more color (Lighter Blue) of Tribal Graphics on the Upper, Tank and Hump.  And then shadowing and outlining to finally... Clearing.  Can't wait!  :D

In regards to all of the PM's and comments I've received, remember:

This did NOT happen over-night.

I've been working on this Bike for 4 years and it actually began when I was 14 working on dirt bikes and cars.  I just applied what I've learned the next 25+ years to this project.

When I do my next bike - I will apply what I learned these last 4 years.

More importantly, When an opportunity arises - Learn from it!  :D

Thanks again for all of the great comments. :thumb:

The bike looks real good, I'd like to suggest that you do something with the calipers though. I think they are just crying to be done in the red that the wheels are.

Probably so, since it's a Powder Coat... but it'll be done over a polish, NOT chrome...  Too many ifs when doing over chrome.

I still have more things install for it too.

They are never finished...

Hey Jerry, how's the oil pan working? Have you had any problems with it while riding / taking corners? I've been thinking about doing the same mod to mine, but was wondering how it was doing on your ride. Thanks.....

Works great...  My only problem is my oil cooler return line has a slight seapage, but that is unrelated to the mod.

FYI - Make sure your welder takes their time so they don't warp the pan's sealing surface.

Hey Jerry, what classes do they have for bikes. My only consern is the bike has a megaphone no baffle is that any problem?
Title: Re: Scary's (soon to be) Bling'n TurboBusa
Post by: Scary-Jerry on December 18, 2005, 12:31:48 PM
No Baffle in Aalen is not a problem.  They split the classes into Pro & Street and further divide by displacement.
I ran unlimited street...   But I had everyone covered by a few tenths and 10-15 mph.  There was one Pro NOS Bike that ran high 8's because he could 60 foot.  He measured and changed clutches between every pass.  :?  Most ran NOS and there were a couple Turbos...

In Hockenheim, you will need a baffle of some sort...  they are strict about the noise there.

Drag Racing in Germany is done via heads-up...  Time Trials determine the ladder for eliminations when they have them, if not... the fastest in time trials wins the class.  NO BRACKETS from what I have seen... :?

Jerry,
How have you been, it's been a long time since we talked?  The bike looks really good!!!!!!  When do you think you will be back in the states and if so are you coming back to Austin?  It's been a very long time since we've ran at Temple.  Now there is a track in Seguin and we go to Houston for the TX Shootout.  I'm competing in the 60" class this year and hope to run some pretty good numbers.  Talk to you later, take care.

p.s.  Stop tearing the bike down and start racing more.

Shane

What are you riding now - Busa ?

I raced at Seguin when it 1st opened and throughout the 1st year...

I don't know when I'll make it back to Texas.
Right now we have been over here for 4 years and we are trying to do 2 more here in Mannheim.
We may be going to Madrid, Spain...   :D
I hope they more Drag Racing than Germany.  :?

p.s. Stop tearing the bike down and start racing more.

I am always Running when Racing is occuring.

...unfortunately, that isn't often enough... :x

Yes I'm running a busa.  I had a 2000 60" 1397 busa that Eric Canada from Indiana built me that ran very well.  It went 8.80's @ 160mph on all motor and 8.50's with a 40 dry shot.

Now I just bought a 60" Velocity Stage 3 turbo but haven't received it yet.  It's being shipped to me after a few mods were done and I hope to have it no later than March 6th, but crossing my fingers that I get it a week before that.

I'm glad that you and your family are doing well and it sounds like you don't miss Texas too much.  How is Zack doing and I'm sure he's big by now, right?  Well good to hear from you and please stay in touch.  I will let you know how I do with the new bike and the kind of times I run with it.  I'm hoping to do very well in the 60" TX Shootout series this year.

Yes the clutch will be the key to making it run a good number.  I would be happy if I got some low 1.4s on it and probably piss in my pants if I could get some 1.3's like Slowe.

I sent you a PM back and sorry man.

Jerry the bike is still looking killer.

Well this past Saturday was the first TX Shootout event and I didn't do to bad for my first time out on a turbo bike.  I competed in the 60" class.

I qualified with a 8.29 @ 177mph which was good enough for 3rd and that's also where I finished in the race.  Man the front wheel never came down once I was at the 1/8 to the 1/4.  Like you said Jerry it will be a blast and it was.

I owe it all to Mike Slowe, he was answering question on race day via phone.  Also to Barry for his Velocity turbos.

Jerry let me know what she runs after you finish and it warms up.

Well...  Motor is back in but my Piggy-Back computer is now constantly/intermittently sending a signal that it sees boost now.
Which means the secondary Injectors are seeing boost and sending fuel...     as soon as the key is turned on...  :mad1:

While I'm awaiting assistance to fix that...  here are some updates of what I have accomplished:

It's all over...
I actually lost interest in it after my little "Get-Off" and then Motor melt-down.

Time for a new Project...  http://www.suzukihayabusa.org/forum/index.php?topic=115913.0 (http://www.suzukihayabusa.org/forum/index.php?topic=115913.0)
I have bought Thomas Lindemann's '03 Black Busa LE and will begin a new Project.

While I am torn down...

I thought I would give a try with something not normally done on a Busa...
"Halo Angel Eyes"...  This is for at the Drags & Shows just to be different...

Tear your headlight apart...

And insert these LED illuminated plastic inserts as shown...

and of course, remove scotch tape after Epoxy has dried.

I'll post evening pics once all is back together...   8)

What is that light is looking in the dark? How do you make a lamp on the sides of the blue lights? Where can produce light bands could buy?
