I've not had much success running my 60" turbo as a street/strip bike and am kicking around the idea of converting it to a race bike that I might ocassionally take out on the street. I don't expect to be making a lot of changes. I'm thinking of a low profile pan, a lockup clutch, a change of gearing, some weight up front and a co2 source for my wastegate controller. I'm working on a budget so my big focus is to get the bike to ET with the amount of power I've currently got before I get too excited about kicking the boost up some more.
One thing that I'm curious about is the benifit of a real drag shock over my stock shock. Is it worth the money to buy an Olin drag shock? How about a revalved stock shock? What sort of improvements can I expect to see?
I know the big boys say that the shock is what makes all the difference but I'm not nearly at that level so I have to wonder if this is something I should consider or if I should be worring about that further down the road.

A GSXR1000 shock from the earlier models works very nicely - has 5 more adjustments on it top and bottom...

yes there is a big difference. Question is do you feel the need to spend he money to see it.

I'm interested in hearing more details on the real benefits of a good shock as well... $1200 is a lot of cake for me...

more adjustment than a factory shock that is revalved. You will not see one person running a revalved shock in any PRO class. Thats the difference. A PRO will look for the smallest adjustment that might net him the extra edge.

But why is it better? different rate on compression with adjustability? controlling the rebound?
Is this a benefit for the weekend warrior/novice?
Big improvement or mostly for more advanced applications????
I have been thinking the same thing as emarsh, but not sure if there's other things I should be spending money on first???

compression, rebound, shock travel, spring rate, etc its a custom shock set up for a particular application. A drag shock wont be good for a road race bike. Like I said....if your searching for or will be searching for the most and afteremarket setup with all the adjustments is the way to go. Is it for the weekend warrior...weell thats up to you .
Would be like saying is getting an aftermarket chip for my vette worth it? To some it is because there is defenitaly and difference and to its not as they dont really need it or want it.
DO I have a aftermarket shock...yes. Do I need one? Yes.
Its all money, just a matter of if you wanna spend it on this item. Control is power.... getting it to the ground is just as important as making it.

A high dollar shock isn't going to just add to your performance. Having the knowledge to utilize its ability/features will.

i have seen more then one bike do a major turnaround at the track from a shock. turbo is a tough beast to tame at the track. any possible adjustment you can gain, grab it. i will be sending mine out. curious about the 1000 shock. might be a nice one to get revalved. what you think Seb?

the weekend warrior will buy the revalved stock shock. When we revalve the stock shocks we put them back in a range where they work due to the increased leverage that is put on them due to long arms and being lowered.
Ive used hayabusa shocks on 1000 with great results.

Would you use a 1000 shock on a busa with a 600 arm or a busa shock
