Spent about an hour on the bike this morning. Will install the full D&D polished system. Here's what I did...

Removed stock cans.

Removed fan to give me some room. Also loosened radiator to allow better access, and taped cardboard behind it to prevent too much damage. Pic shows knuckles still got bloody...

Removed exhaust header. Had to try various positions to pull it out. As you can see, the radiator still got a little banged up.

Stock exhaust ready for storage.

Began the PAIR valve removal using the kit from Reaper (a good guy). Got the tubes out. Plugged the airbox inlet line. Then I tried to install the throttle body vacuum cap on the inlet nipple. I could not access the nipple from the outside. I loosened all bolts on the upper box assembly and had to pull it up pretty hard to lift it off the T body assembly to access the nipple. Side shot of the T body.

Removed PAIR valve lines and installed the blockoff plates.

PAIR valve assembly off and ready for storage.

Installed K&N air filter. I decided to do the air box mod later.

More to come...

Spent another 2 hours on the bike this afternoon. Here's the recap...

I pulled the upper airbox off and installed the vacuum cap on the T body inlet nipple. It only took me about 5 minutes... I just had to pull the box up a little harder than I thought. No problem.

I installed the D&D exhaust header. This piece is really nice and the workmanship is top notch. It fits nicely too.

I installed the cross over pipe, the mid pipes and the cans. Again, the finish and fit is nice. The tightening sequence is definitely from rear to front. Any other way would not work properly. One note... Be sure to install the exhaust clamps and tighten them all at 6 oclock and 12 oclock to be sure exhaust leaks are minimized. After about 30 minutes of tightening and loosening and re-tightening, I still had two small leaks where the crossover pipe meets the midpipe.

The only issue is, from the rear, my left can sits about and inch or two lower than the right can. I'm re-adjusting but not having much luck. I think in the end it will be about one inch off. Hardly noticeable.

Next, I hit a snag. As I was tightening the left side midpipe rear clamp, I snapped the bolt. So I had to break for the day and pick up a new bolt tomorrow. All I have left to do is install the clamp and re-install the fairings.

The D&D double can full exhaust sounds AWESOME. Much better than stock. A lower deeper rumble at idle, and a nice mid-tone when throttled. Throttle response even seems a slight bit better. Looking forward to a test drive this week.

More to come...

I spent about 30 minutes on the bike tonight, and finished the exhaust installation.

I bought a replacement exhaust clamp bolt at Ace Hardware, installed the clamp, and re-installed the fairings and belly pan.

Finished exhaust, left side.

Finished exhaust, right side.

Careful underneath, the exhaust touches the front lip of the fairing. I expect some burn marks, so I may dremmel away some material tomorrow after a test ride.

So far I have about 4 hours invested in replacing the stock exhaust with a D&D full kit, removing the PAIR valve assembly, installing the Reaper PAIR valve blockoff kit, and installing a K&N filter. I think anyone who is somewhat mechanically inclined can do the same no problem.

I picked up my PC-III tonight. I will download a map and install it tomorrow. I plan to dyno tune the bike within a week. The Motorhead undertail is out to paint right now. I expect it back Friday. The lowering kit (Soupy's dogbones and Reaper risers) should be here tomorrow. More to come...

I mapped the PC-III last night, by downloading the maps from the supplied disk. I chose the map for "2002-2006 GSX1300R Leo Vince Full Exhaust Stock or Aftermarket Air Filter". It was the closest one to my setup. I installed the unit tonight in literally under 5 minutes. Simply disconnect the harness under the tank, place PC-III harness between them, route the wires along the frame, attach the ground wire to the battery negative terminal, and mount the box with supplied velcro under the tail. Very simple.

Here is the harness installed.

Here is the box installed.

The D&D exhaust sounds real nice. The map I used works really well. The bike runs noticeably quicker, with improved throttle response throughout the RPM range. Got 48 miles now. Getting fun...

More to come...

A UPS delivery just came to the door. So I installed the Zero Gravity windscreen, purchased from Reaper. This was another 5 minute installation. Remove and replace two allen bolts and two plastic pushpin snaps.

Here's the windscreen. I got the dark smoke. Raised up top for better guage visibility. Dark in the garage. The Zero Gravity stickers will be removed tomorrow.

Waiting on the undertail from the painter. Then I will install that and the lowering kit.

More to come...

More progress... Last week I got the Motorhead undertail with the clear alternatives integrated LED signals. I had the undertail laser color matched and painted. Last weekend I removed the tail section. It only took me about 10 minutes to strip it all off. Very simple.

I got the undertail back from my painter on Monday, but have been busy at work all week, bought a new car, etc... Here's the piece almost ready for installation.

I did mess a little with the taillight assembly earlier this week. I removed the stock assembly and wired the new LED assembly. Tonight I thought I'd spend about an hour re-installing everything. But, it never seems to go like you think... Here's a summary...

I drilled the 2 front solid mount holes, and the 6 bolt holes in the undertail at the pre-formed dimples to accept the supplied mounting bolts. I started with 6 smaller pilot holes, then enlarged to the proper size. For anyone trying this, I'd suggest two things. 1) If you already painted the undertail, use masking tape over the area to be drilled. 2) Drill your holes as far to the outside of the dimples as possible. As you will see, this undertail is a pretty solid piece and doesn't allow much bending to match up with the stock tail's mounting holes. So do yourself a favor and place the holes to the outside as much as possible. When mounting, I suggest starting with the two forward solid mount bolts, and leave them loose to allow the undertail to be moved a bit while installing the remaining bolts. Then find a way to muscle the stock tail to the undertail and line up the holes. It aint easy...

I installed the LED assembly in the stock tail bracket. But once I got it in place, I realized the tag light lower assembly and lens were still there. Here's what it looked like. It's not clean enough for me...

Since I want a clean look, I opted to remove the tag light housing on the bottom of the taillight assembly, and I also removed the tag light lens at the bottom portion of the clear alternatives lens. A dremel with a cutting wheel works fine. Just use a grinding stone afterwards to touch up the cuts. Then I re-installed the taillight/signal assembly. Here's what it looked like afterwards. Much cleaner... Also, notice the gap between the undertail and the stock tail. This was a 4 beer gap...

I began to install the 6 supplied bolts and clips to the stock tail and undertail. I could only manage to get 4 installed. The two center bolts simply would not mate with the clips, due to the tail section and the undertail not coming together. I muscled this around for a while and couldn't get it. I did manage to crack the undertail fiberglass about 4 inches on the front underside. Hardly noticeable but I hope it doesn't creep. I will attempt to try to match up the 2 remaining holes again tomorrow, but I'm not too confident... So here's what it looks like at the moment.

The most time consuming part of the undertail installation, was attempting to mate the stock tail piece with the undertail to line up the mount holes and insert the bolts. This probably took me a good hour or so. And I still have 2 bolts to go. Once the undertail is painted, this install took me about 3 hours. Again, at least one hour was muscling the tail around. Another 20 minutes was cutting the tag lens and tag light housing off. If the undertail kit had 3/4" wider lips around the piece it would allow more efficient fitment. Otherwise, I'm pretty pleased with it.

Now on my parts list is a new tag bracket. I wanted to keep a fender mounted tag, to keep the bike proportioned. But it may not be too possible unless I fab a bracket to hang off the rear-most tail bolts. So I'm looking at a black swingarm mounted bracket. Then I'll need wiring for a tag light...

Tomorrow I expect to install the Soupy's rear lowering kit and the Reaper front risers. More to come...
Title: Re: Jimzu's 2006 Busa LE
Post by: Jimzu on June 25, 2006, 03:02:01 PM
I buttoned up the undertail as best I could, just to get it roadworthy. I left the two center holes open, and I'll deal with it later.

I did some suspension work. I installed the Soupy's fully adjustable rear lowering links, and the Reaper 1-3/4" risers.

In order to install the rear links, I put the bike on the stand, and placed a jack under the pivot point, lifting it slightly to take weight off the suspension. I removed the stock link bolts, and replaced the links with the Soupy's dog bones. The only hangup was removing the bolt on the left side, as the chain was in the way. I had to lift the rear tire with my forearm and manipulate the bolt out of the assembly. The rear link installation took me about 50 minutes.

In order to install the risers, I removed the lower front fairing (the black plastic piece) and the windscreen. I removed the 4 allen bolts holding the top bracket. There are 4 chrome allen caps on these. You have to remove them with a small phillips head screwdriver. They get damaged in the process, so I said bye bye to mine. After removing those bolts, I also loosened the two clamp screws on the upper legs. Then I went underneath and loosened the 4 slider bolts. At that point the front end sank down the entire way. I leveled it off and tightened everything down and replaced the plastics. I must give props to Reaper, this kit is slick. It comes with spacers and new bolts/nuts. The bars do not hit the windscreen and the cables remain long enough. If only the spacers were powdercoated, chrome, or polished... I'll powdercoat them later. Installing this kit took me 40 minutes.

Here is the riser kit installed...

Here are a few shots of the bike now. It's starting to look better. It sits about 2 inches lower. My test ride proved it still rides very nice, and the feel is better with a lower center of gravity.

I even rigged up a temporary tag bracket just to get me on the road until I get a nice one. I used the stock reflector bracket and hung it off one of the open undertail holes. Yes, it's hokey, but it works...  :P

Next, I will be getting a tag relocator and an adjustable kickstand. I'm also searching for some nice wheels to go with the extended arm. I'm probably going to go with the Pro One Sinister II chrome with black tribal inserts... And I'll probably replace my D&D polished cans with their carbon fiber cans... Hell, they already have about 40 miles on them... Yes I have a sickness... More to come.

Hopefully, someone finds this thread interesting... Maybe not... I simply thought that it might do someone else good who might be looking at the same mods I'm doing...  :?:

Thanks Ksana.

Last night while parking at the gym I actually paid attention to the kickstand being too high, because it was windy... So today I dropped by my buddy Dave's shop, DD Custom Cycle (one of the top custom bike builders in the country). First, we got those damn middle bolts in the undertail... Then I leaned the bike over, he cut 1-1/4 inches out of the kickstand, re-welded the bottom plate on, ground it smooth, and shot it black. Took less than 5 minutes... Now it sits perfect on the stand. Who needs a $200 aftermarket kickstand? Who needs a notched kickstand mod? :P Check this out. The cut was made just under the foot knob. Can you tell?

1-1/4 inches shorter...

2-1/2 inches lower in the rear, 1-3/4 inches lower in the front, resting on the modified stock kickstand...

Next, a simple, custom fabbed tag bracket is in the works. More to come...
Title: Re: Jimzu's 2006 Busa LE
Post by: Jimzu on June 27, 2006, 07:10:52 PM
Okay, I got sick of looking for a simple, clean tag mount for a Motorhead undertail. Plus, I did NOT want to drill holes into my newly painted undertail... So I got creative. Here are the details.

My buddy Dave plasma cut two 4-1/2 inch by 1-1/4 inch plates to use as mounts, and beveled the corners. I mocked them up to the 2 rear-most bolts holding the undertail to the tailpiece, and bent them as needed to get the proper angle to mount a tag. I cut 1/8 inch rubber pieces to go between the plates and the body. I took the stock plate mount piece from the stock undertail and re-used that, along with the stock hardware.

Here are the parts I used, from top to bottom. 2 pieces of black rubber cut to fit the 2 new brackets; 2 plasma cut brackets bent on a vise to the proper angle and drilled to accomodate the stock undertail bolts and tag bracket; and the stock tag bracket that comes from the factory to hold the tag. I also re-used the stock hardware and the bolts supplied with the undertail...

Here are the 2 mounting brackets I bent and mocked up on the rear undertail bolts. The rubber inserts rest between the plates and the body to serve as a little paint protection...

Now, I'm holding the stock tag bracket underneath the mounting brackets to center it and mark for holes. I placed the tag bracket against those plates and marked the holes for drilling and attachment...

Since the mount plates would be visible from the sides, I painted the 2 plates semi-gloss black to match...

I bolted the 2 newly painted brackets to the undertail with the bolts supplied with the Motorhead undertail. I then bolted the stock tag bracket to those 2 plates. Then I bolted the tag to the stock tag bracket using the OEM tag screws. I also picked up a $5.00 chrome tag frame to top it off. Eventually I'll get a nicer piece, but this was handy and it works fine for now...

Here is the entire assembly from the right side...

Here it is from the rear...

Another...

The entire modification, from fabrication to installation, took a total of about 30 minutes. What do you think? I hope someone is reading this...  :|

More to come...

Now thats what I like to see
something you don't see everyday
I almost want to order an MH undertail

BTW did you use any spacers (rubber or some kind of cushion) in between the tail & the mounts?
To keep it from scratching up your tail (vibration)

Looks nice!!!!!!

modding the kickstand...very innovative

do a search for the kickstand mod(it should have pics, if not pm your email, I'll send u some pics w/ details)
basically take a Dremel
make 2 notches in the front
so it kind of locks it in place
to prevent tipovers

I think your mod will work too
but you can never be too sure

ALSO ANYONE ELSE READING THIS
OBVIOUSLY HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING, WORKING ON BIKES!!
BUT THIS IS THE KIND OF MEMBERS WE NEED ON THIS BOARD
NO DRAMA...
I WISH I THOUGHT OF DETAILING THE PHASES MY BUSA WENT THRU
HELL I DON'T EVEN HAVE PICTURES (MAYBE LIKE 8, AT THE MOST)

KEEP IT UP BRO
AND GLAD TO HAVE YOU ON THE BOARD

I saw them in the 1st pic
and mounted (but only on the left side)
when I paid closer attention (I saw the right one)
also it looks like you got the two center holes lined up too
BTW clean welds on the kickstand(can't even see em) :thumb:

Thanks man. At least someone thinks this is worthwhile. I haven't had a sportbike in years, so I'm learning as I go. I had alot of customs and enjoyed seeing them come to life. I usually have a camera nearby so it's a piece of cake. Hopefully my mistakes can help someone else.

On this tag mount... If I could do it again, I'd fabricate one single mount plate (instead of two) to bolt to the tail. Less parts is good...

Okay... Lots happening this week. I purchased a Ghetto Kit from .org member Nem last week. He stepped up big time and volunteered to make sure it got installed. So last weekend we began the install. After putting in several hours, including a few hours tackling one particular header bolt... we called it a day. Today, Nem returned to my garage, and we finished the install... 333 miles on the bike, and it's boosted...

I gotta say, Nem is a hell of a guy in my book. He put in alot of time to make sure this project happened. He didn't have to do it... But that's the kind of guy he is. I haven't had a sportbike in years. Nem knows his stuff and has helped me out alot. Thanks Nem...

We spent several hours on the turbo install today. Still, the bitch of it was the 3rd bottom header bolt. We went to my buddy Dave's custom bike shop, and fabricated a special allen wrench to get at the bolt. It worked, and the header got done. Damn... Fellas, make sure you snug the bottom bolts first, then tighten the tops... And if (no, when) you need a special allen wrench, give me a shout...

I called Dennis Tuesday and ordered the 2-1/2 inch exhaust with a carbon fiber can. He got it to me in two days. Unfortunately the 5 bolt flange that came with it doesn't fit the kit. So, the project continues... I don't want to cut the fairing, so I'll wait until I can get the right flange for the exhaust... It's always something...

I also have to say... If you install heavy duty clutch springs, make sure you have installed the clutch case support bracket or a billet case. After the springs were in, it only took one clutch pull to crack the case... Add it to the list...

I took it out for a test spin. Sounds tough with the open dump pipe... Lots of rain, and a quiet neighborhood, so the bike is yet to be tested for real... But I can tell she wants to run...

Here are some pics of where it stands...

The bike today...

Shot of the PC-III...

Other stuff happening...

I received my fairing grills, in charcoal metallic color. They're "pre-formed" but that's funny. Some dude lays chickenwire over his fairing openings and presses them down. That's "pre-formed". I should get into that business... I wont install the grills until I have the exhaust in place and have fitted the up pipe properly. Going for a stealthy look... Should have them installed the day after I get the exhaust flange...

Got a Dyna shift light. I should have it on this weekend...

Got some miscellaneous carbon fiber parts and will install as I go...

My black anodized grips and bar ends are on the way...

Tomorrow, I'll re-install the upper fairing and try to Call Dennis again... Waiting on that one final part is painful....

Planning to purchase a set of Marvic Penta II wheels from a .org member...

Planning to purchase a 4-6 inch over swingarm, in satin black...

And of course... I'm getting the clutch case support bracket...

More to come...

Bikes looking really good man.  I know what it's like waiting for parts and building a bike......it can be stressful, but it's worth every hardship when you climb on it when it's finished.  I don't know what kinda arm your looking for but I'm running one of Antdog's on mine......and I love it.  Great quality, quick turnaround, and you CAN'T beat the price.  Bikes gonna look good when you get it done.....keep up the progress reports.  :D

Thanks Brains. That's a great looking bike you have. Eventually, I plan to powdercoat nearly as many parts as yours. I'd also like details on how to contact Antdog...

And... I took my bike out today for a real test ride... All I can say is... It's a whole new world from 5000 rpm up...  The open exhaust and dump pipe sound crazy...  :bah:

I put the front clip on, leaving off the side fairings, waiting on the exhaust flange... I kind of like this look... Street-fighter-ish...

looking good! Did you hard mount the gauges? Smithbusa had some problems with the vibration killing his gauges. Might try making some rubber washers to put on top and bottom so they can move a little.
Title: Re: 2006 Limited - "Blanco Boosta"
Post by: Jimzu on July 23, 2006, 11:15:31 AM
Thanks tricktom. And yes, they're hard mounted gauges. I've had alot of experience with hard mounted gauges on customs, and you're absolutely right, they will eventually break. They're already erratic jigglers... I'll put some rubber spacers on, but even then, it's questionable...

Okay... I couldn't stand waiting for Dennis to send the proper flange for the exhaust, so I hacked up my fairings today, to accomodate the up pipe, and the dump / exhaust pipes... I'll just buy a second set of fairings for the full exhaust.....

Here are some pics of the bike as it sits today... Almost a sleeper...

Nem, what's up man! Thanks! The support bracket did not come in yet. I'm going easy on the clutch. The fairings look okay but I'm buying a set off ebay for the exhaust...

After some riding today, I'm looking forward to the exhaust getting done. The open pipe just aint for me...

At around 5000 rpms and up, it seems the power is cutting out a bit. Not sure if it's plugs, electronic, or just touchy throttle yet... Could I have fouled the plugs already? Any ideas? I'm going to post a question in the turbo tech section...

I'm paying attention too.  Good writeup.  Funny thing is, I'm planning almost the exact same buildup for the first of the year.  I plan to get the '06 LE also if I can find one in December or January.  My '03 black and silver got totalled, so I need to start over.  I'll be installing my stage 1 intercooled onto the new bike.  I'm considering the motorhead undertail also.  The only issue I have is that I have too many boxes to fit in the trunk without being able to get under the latch bar.  Maybe I can work it out by putting the kill box and the PC behind the battery where the ECM used to go.  It's hard to fit an LM-1 and Aux box back there.  I know I can fit the boost controller no problem.
I'm gonna do the same ZG DB, and get a set of black extensions for the arm instead of a whole new one.  It would be nice to get rid of the "tower" on the swingarm though.  Someone mentioned the problem of getting a swingarm tag mount that fits extensions.  If you go that route, I know of a company that makes a tag mount to fit their extension.  I can't remember who, but if you need the info, PM me and I'll call my buddy who has a set and let you know.  I can't wait to see it when you get around to powder coating the rear sets and foot controls.  Looking very good so far.
This is helping me to visualize what mine will look like.  I'm chomping at the bit.   :D

I did some minor work on the bike tonight. I installed the reservoir covers, fork pivot cover, grips, bar ends, and shift light. (I don't like the bar ends which are 2" and the bevels don't mate to the grip properly, so I will replace them soon with 1" with beveled edge that fits properly.)

Also installed a set of Clear Alternatives front signal lenses in light smoke, to match the rear lens. If you notice, everything on the body is white or silver. I want to keep that consistent. Everything else will be either black or carbon fiber. That's the plan...

I sent my seat out today for a Tobin customization. Should be back sometime mid next week. I bought a new gel seat on ebay as a backup and it's pretty comfy...

Sent my exhaust flange to MH for a collector. When it returns, the exhaust will go on. Yes, it's my 4th exhaust in under 400 miles... I bought a brand new right side fairing for the bike on ebay, to use with the full exhaust. The one on the bike will be used when running open exhaust...

Next, I will install the heavy duty clutch springs and the clutch case bracket I got today. My stock housing cracked after the heavy duty springs were installed on the very first pull. One more thing to replace...

More to come...

We'll have to load the map on the pc3r soon. So that way it will be a good starting point for your tuner and it will run much better. Keep in mind about jdm performance and efr racing both are very familiar with turbo busa's.

If the place in Schaumburg does dyno tuning on Saturdays, I'll go there. I'll find out tomorrow. If they do, let's plan a ride.

Red, thanks!

Bench, thanks. It's almost there...

With the bike on the lift waiting for the exhaust collector, I'm bored, so here's a quick update for next week's plans...

The new right side fairing is here waiting on the exhaust collector and exhaust install.

A gel seat now sits on the bike. Just waiting on my seat to come back from Tobin customized and with a hump pad.

I have the slave bracket support, and heavy duty clutch springs to install.

Some new parts I ordered today...
Marvic Piuma black wheels
Myrtle West 6" over black underbraced swingarm
ZZZ chain

Just a few key parts left. Then it's powdercoating and jet-hot coating time.

Coming down the home stretch. More to come...

Some parts came in so I did a little work today.

First, I got creative to eliminate the hole in the oil cooler bracket where the oil cooler used to be. I bought some black screen at Home Depot to fill the hole. Here's a quick recap.

I cut the screen large enough to shape to the hole.

I trimmed the screen close enough to begin to shape it around the bracket contours.

I taped the screen's edges down, and taped down across the center, to give it some rigidity and keep it in place while epoxying it.

I epoxied around the edges about 1/4 inch all around. I repeated this about 5 times, allowing about 30 minutes between each round to dry enough to go again, until finished. When the tape is removed, it pulls off the half dry epoxy leaving a pretty straight line.

Here's what the finished product looks like from the front.

Here's a shot on the bike. A much cleaner finished look. And it keeps the debris out of places it shouldn't be.

Also, a pic of the new Busa grips, bar ends, pivot cover, etc. out in the sun.

More stuff in a few minutes...

I also received the exhaust flange from Dennis, so I installed the full single side carbon fiber exhaust. It sounds just like I thought it would. Like an average Busa with a slight turbo whine. Perfect...

Here are a couple pics with it installed, along with the new right side fairing. I cut the original one for the exhaust dumps.

I also installed my new Tobin seat. I really like this seat. I went with the dull black, and two silver kanji logos on the sides. I also got the zippered hump pad, but wont put that on unless I'm taking a road trip. I like the look of the solo seat best. Pics...

She has 390 miles on her now...

Ah.  I see.  Yeah, I had that big hole in mine too.  I like what you did.  I'll probably do something similar this time around.  I ended up having to cut the upper portion of the plastic piece completely off to get the up pipe to my intercooler to fit.  If I turbo another one, I'm going to go with the ultra (god, I'm going to be in debt) so the big intercooler will be gone and the up pipe will run straight up through the ram air passage.  I'm hoping I'll be able to drop the front forks alot with the exchanger at the top of the rad.  I would guess that it will leave alot more clearance than the intercooler did.

I installed the flush mount carbon fiber mirrors today. I'm okay with them. They sit nice and tucked in, and they are actually functional... I will probably get a second pair with stems too, as a backup.

<<EDITED: After installing them once, I removed and re-installed the mirrors with the stock rubber spacer between the fairing and the mount, to eliminate a 1/8 inch gap. I also adjusted the levers downward for a couple inches more room and a better riding position, per Nem's comments. Better... Pics below.>>

Also got some odds and ends I'll be installing this week...
- A sheet of carbon fiber. I plan to cut it to fit under the undertail. I will place it up underneath to prevent chips. Barely visible, but trick.
- Frankenstein bolt eliminator kit, in black. To get rid of the ugly bolts near the seat.
- Exotic Cycle clutch slave support bracket. Help with my HD clutch springs.
- A set of white powdercoated fairing bolts. Should top off the fairing nice.
- The hump mod to allow storage in the hump.

I'm still waiting on the swingarm and chain. Myrtle West PM'd and said the package is on the way...

In the meantime, I installed my fairing screens. Since I'm avoiding chrome on the bike, I got charcoal metallic screens to match. I hear alot of people ask questions about installing these. So for what it's worth, here's a step by step...

First, I removed the fairing and put it on my bench to have easy access...

Next, I placed the screens over the fairing holes to size and form them. A screen is supplied for each hole. They are supplied as so-called 'pre-formed'. Basically they are small patches of wire screen slightly bent to the shape of the fairing openings. Emphasize "slightly" bent. They need forming. Be sure to place the screen over the corresponding hole and press firmly, especially around the edges. Make a nice tight edge and press around the hole firmly with your thumb so it doesn't bounce back when you release, forming a tight fit. Once it fits, trim the edges. I left about an extra inch all the way around the hole...

Since some of the foam lining in the fairing gets in the way of the screen, I had to remove a small amount of foam. I used an exacto knife to cut it and pulled it off. This allows a better surface to epoxy the screen...

Once I had the screen cut to fit, I taped it to the fairing tightly. This keeps the screen tight to the fairing while it's epoxied...

After the first screen was set and the epoxy was applied, I moved on to the second screen and hole. Just repeat for the other fairing and the tail section...

I allowed the epoxy to dry for a few hours and installed the fairing. Pic added. The charcoal graphite doesn't show up much in pics. Stealthy...

That's it for tonight. I also got my carbon fiber frame sliders today from Toykraz. More to come...

Thanks man. Glad someone enjoys this. Coming down the home stretch soon for phase one. This winter I'll be doing alot of cosmetic stuff, like jet hot coating the exhaust, powdercoating the uptube, plenum, risers, etc. etc. And an intercooler. No chrome...

Okay, the arm arrived today from Myrtle West. I must admit, this arm looks kick ass... It's a 6 inch over extended with a lower brace and upper removed, powdercoated satin black. The welds look top notch, and it's smooth and clean, just like I asked for. Notice there are no signs of a squared block welded in. Instead, the added portion is beveled to match the original outside edge of the swingarm, and it's smoothed in. You can hardly tell there is an extension. It's a very clean look. Exactly what I was searching for... I hope it fits and functions as good as it looks.

Here are a couple pics...

I also received the chain. I still need the breaker / connector tool.

And I installed the hump mod tonight. It took about 5 minutes. Seems like a good idea, with the undertail leaving very little room for stuff.

More to come...

Well, tonight Nem stopped by and worked his magic. Installed the 6 inch over Myrtle West swingarm, and the Marvic Piuma black magnesium wheels with Avon Viper Sport tires.

For those of you who asked what the weight difference is between the Piumas and the stockers, here's the answer... I weighed the stock front and rear wheel setups (wheel, tire, rotors, sprocket), then I weighed the Piuma setups (wheel tire, rotors sprocket) to compare the real world setups, and I noted the weight savings. Here it is... The stock front setup weighed 28 lbs. The Piuma front setup weighed 23 lbs. The stock rear setup weighed 40 lbs. The Piuma rear setup weighed 30 lbs. Give or take a few ounces. I saved 5 lbs on the front, and 10 lbs on the rear. 15 lbs total weight savings! Pretty good. And that's rolling mass which should translate nicely into seat of the pants and quarter mile times.

I must give some props to Myrtle West for providing a kickass swingarm. This thing is slick and clean. I had he top brace removed, and a bottom brace added. The extensions welded into the swingarm are actually beveled to match the outside surfaces of the stock swingarm, so it looks like an OEM peice. I highly recommend this arm...

I also cut a carbon fiber sheet to fit the contour under the undertail up inside the recessed area, to protect it from rocks and debris. Looks pretty trick...

Since we finished up at midnight, I set the right fairing on the bike and left off the belly pan just to get a glimpse of how it looks now, because I still have some other work to do. Here is a pic. I'll get some good ones in daylight. I'm happy with the look. It should help plant the horsies too...

Next, I'll install the HD clutch springs, the slave support bracket, the white fairing bolts and the black Arata rearsets. More to come...

Not yet. The clutch was slipping, so I wanted the HD clutch springs in before I dyno it. I ran into a slight delay last week. Hope to have it mapped this week or next. Travel for work makes it tough to plan.

Thanks.

The bike is finally dyno tuned... After some issues were discovered...

Running the 7 lb spring, the first dyno pull showed 12 lbs boost and threw FI codes (276 hp). Tried a 3 lb spring to theoretically cut the boost in half, but it still showed 10 lbs boost and threw all FI codes (269 hp). With some advice from Stedman and others we suspected boost creep due to slight differences in turbo housing wastegate port, even though it's a new unit. A fairly common thing even with slight tolerance differences. After inspection, it appeared a tiny bit smaller, hardly noticable. So it was re-ported perfectly to match the wastegate exactly. The next dyno pull showed 7 lbs boost with a 7 lb spring (236 hp on 93 octane). Could have pulled more, but felt the AFR was perfect and a bit conservative. Safe is good. Will put the 10 lb spring in eventually, and may go with better fuel. Just want to do everything right.

Everything seems great...

Well... Tonight I took her out for a real ride, fresh from the tuner... All I can say is, it's about time!

Some observations...
1. I love turbos. It's just what the bike needed. Acceleration is smooth and rapid.
2. The 6 inch over arm is the perfect addition. Some spin in first. Just a tad in second. Smooth sailing after that.
3. The Avon Sport Viper is an excellent tire. I couldn't be happier with that choice.
4. The Marvic Piumas actually make the bike feel a bit more nimble. It's true.
5. I'm glad I bought the hump pad with my Tobin seat. It comes in handy and keeps you planted on acceleration.

Overall, she seems to be set up very nicely. I sure will miss her when my OCD kicks in again...  :bah:

So it was re-ported to match the wastegate. The next dyno pull showed 7 lbs boost with a 7 lb spring (234 hp on 93 octane). Could have pulled a bit more, but felt okay with it and the AFR. Will put the 10 lb spring in eventually, and better fuel. Just want to do everything right.
