Title: Windscreens for those who actually ride:
Post by: Kirk on June 21, 2006, 09:00:33 PM
The stock windscreen is downright dangerous. It's tinted, which is stupid. It also distorts like a funhouse mirror. If you think you can spot your braking marker at 190 mph while looking through the stocker, I wouldn't bet your life on it.

I originally tried changing too many things at once. I got a Zero Gravity Double Bubble in clear. I could see perfectly and it offered a huge still air pocket, but it also was not legal for Supersport. I also kept bumping my helmet into the trailing edge of it while climbing forward trying to keep the front end down.

Next I tried the Zero Gravity Double Bubble "Low", also known as the "Drag" version, also in clear. It's the same exact windscreen as the regular Double Bubble, but the trailing edge is cut out in a crescent shape after it's molded. From the front, it looks lower because it's cut shorter. from the rider's perspective, it allows you to get further forward on the bike. It still has a pretty big still air pocket. I liked it. But it also was not legal for Supersport.

If I was buying a Hayabusa windscreen now, I think I'd probably try a stock replacement Lockhart Phillips Speedscreen in clear. The stock-shaped ones are legal for Supersport, and I really don't have any problems with the stock shape- it's just a little more critical to have good body position at high speeds because the air pocket is going to be the smallest.

Well, I'm about 5'10 and 175 pounds. I guess bigger guys could use either version of the Zero Gravity Double-Bubble or one of Lockhart-Phillips V2 windscreens. But whatever you choose, it should be clear and not distort your view.

True.  But, great info Kirk.  I really appreciate what you're doing with this road course forum.  Believe me, I carefully read and think about everything you write, and have implemented some of your suggestions.  Great work!   Please continue!  :beechug:

I am 5' 10" as well but 230, my chest is one of my issues, just to big. But yah I agree clear is best, I have a clear ZG DB and ordering a Clear Power bronze, takes 2 weeks to get those in cause everyone wants smoked, bahhh posers hehe. My scorpion helmet was the best thing I ever did, the way I am forced to lean my helmet is up in the air stream some and it dont shake at all now. With the PB screen I bet I can hit 190 without even knowing it :)

I drained a tank of gas today with the Powerbronze bubble .....it rules. This after using a ZG double for a year and the stock unit for 2. There is no comparision between the 3.

Nice,

Looks like a Zero Gravity, but there is No visual disortion, cool.

Hey what kind of steering damper is that?

It's higher than the ZG double bubble. Also...that is the light smoke (not very much tint to it).

Least a good inch higher then my DB. Plus it seems a little wider, air dont hit my shoulders like it does with the DB. I can sit on my bike and look down the front of the DB, I can not do that with the PB.

It appeared that some might be looking for a clear wind screen.  I just checked out the powerbronze website, and they have a clearance / reduction sale on the Powerbronze airflow clear..  I don't know if you can order directly, but if someone was looking for this screen, it looked to be about 55% off or so..
