Title: Installation of Smithabusa's Launch/Shift Light...
Post by: DreamRyder on January 10, 2007, 06:11:40 PM
well I'm hoping this lil baby will make my launches and shifting more consistent ...

It's totally programmable:
you can set your RPM for your launch anywhere from 3k to 15.7k in 100 rpm increments, with an adj window range of 100 - 3K rpm for staying illuminated.
you can set your RPM for your shifting anywhere from 3k to 15.7k in 100 rpm increments.

Greg was so generous as to send me his new Launch and Shift LED Light set up before Christmas... 8)

He promised it would be easy to install and shouldnt' take more than 20 minutes...

Greg was FAST with getting me the kit to include a CD with PDF files for installation and instructions AND the ENTIRE Service Manual... FABULOUS! Only down side was I had to leave shortly after the product arrived. So I was not able to install it right away...

Well with the bike here at my place I was finally able to get at it last night... The instructions were very detailed and the photos made it a breeze to follow... I had the half of the job done in a matter of a couple minutes.. and would have been done shortly after except I couldn't find the ground and power clip to connect to... after 15 minutes of looking and finally giving up I called Greg and we discovered that I'd NOT find those wires cuz the Nose of the bike had been removed ... (the body work and tank are at the painters I brought the bike home nekkid)  sooo after all that I coudlnt' go any further LOL.. if I had the nose I could have had this job done in half the time Greg estimated.

Following are pics to illustrate JUST HOW EASY IT WAS... or IS....

thank again Greg.. you're the best...! can't wait to finish hookin it up later... will post up vid of it's operation once it's all back together...

bike before anything was changed...

Opening Wire Harness Wrap to locate the two wires to attach the quick clips to..

Feed the launch/shift light wires for the RPM Switch behind harness leaving the blue and green ones hanging free and the black and red ones towards the front of the bike ...

snap one of the red clips securely to the Yellow wire with Blue Tracer (I had to use some pliers to squeeze it hard enough to snap it closed) then attach the push tab from the green wire to the red quick clip.

(http://www.electronicfiles.net/files/5405/Dreamryders%20Busa%20Projects/Image%203%20snap%20red%20clip%20to%20yellow%20wire%20with%20blue%20tracer%20and%20attach%20green%20wire%20tab.jpg)

Then locate the Black wire with Yellow Tracer and attach the other red quick clip securely ...

Then attach the push tab from the remaining blue wire to the red quick clip.

(http://www.electronicfiles.net/files/5405/Dreamryders%20Busa%20Projects/Image%205%20attach%20blue%20wire%20tab%20to%20red%20clip%20on%20black%20wire%20with%20yellow%20tracer.jpg)

Now your tach and clutch signal wires are connected and ready to wrap back up.

(http://www.electronicfiles.net/files/5405/Dreamryders%20Busa%20Projects/Image%206%20green%20and%20blue%20wire%20tabs%20are%20secure%20and%20ready%20to%20close%20up%20harness%20wrap.jpg)

Power and Ground connector is ready to plug into the 2 pin connector located inside the nose near the right turn signal... (which I did not have on the bike at this time)

ensure your wire is loose enough to reach completely around and to the other side...

(http://www.electronicfiles.net/files/5405/Dreamryders%20Busa%20Projects/Image%208%20power%20and%20ground%20connector%20to%20be%20hooked%20up%20on%20the%20right%20side%20of%20bike%20to%202%20pin%20connector.jpg)

secure the RPM switch with zip ties provided by Greg...

Use black electrical tape to secure the harness wrap you opened up previously and then use zip ties to secure loose wires to the harness.

secure the clutch relay with zip ties to cluster of wires

and this leaves the last step... placement of the LED Light Cluster itself using the optional bracket with self sticking velcro tabs...

and it's as easy as THAT!

E.

hey be sure to let me know what ya need for vinyl decals.... you know I've got ya covered with what ever I can cut for ya... check out Sonicsbombs decals.. I did them for him  :thumb:

thought I had a closer up one of his name on the windscreen but reckon not???  Did his name, hayabusa symbol, suzuki name, and numbers ...

as long as you have the graphic I can convert it to a vector file my plotter software recognizes and auto trace or manual and cut it... TIFF's work best... JPEG next.. then BMP or GIF..  TrueTypeFonts are easiest to do .. no tracing necessary...

Here is what she has (only red LOL).  Hers isn't a gear indicator, though I do make those as well.

And gear indicator / shift light / launch light
www.boostbysmith.com/Videos/launch1.wmv

All of these can be made to auto-shift as well.

that's just RAW I tell ya RAW... I love it! hahaaha... yeah I wanted to check for power and all before puttin everything completely together but I can't till I get the head light assembly section put back on so I can hook up the power and ground.. but will do for sure.. I never put stuff completely back together before double checkin that kinda thing..  ( i do technical repairs where i work as well as other stuff and when I troubleshoot over the phone I'm constantly reminding them to do the same thing...)

tks for lookin out for me... (and making fun of my abnormally long fingers - you shoudl see my toes  :bah: )

Forgot about posting up some video after I got it installed and in use...

I loved this crafty device... I'd highly recommend it to anyone dragracing either for fun or for competition!

Here is a dash recording and a video of the bike from the side - same run. It was not a good run by any means because the back end washed out BUT It was the only recording I had uploaded from last year for easy access.
