I used to make that run from Alamagordo to ElPaso back in the late 80's, what a blast.

We also like the run up to Hillsboro, over Emery Pass and up to the Gila Cliff Dwellings.  Of course you have to watch out for the cows, deer, Ibex, Orex, and a few Lama's, but not many state troopers.

I go on a Labor Day run, each year I can make it, to Hanigans Meadows up by Alpine Az. I go through NM through Socorro up by the VLA (Contact)turn left at Datal and up through the mountains to Alpine.

I went to ENMU in Portales and have bathed in the hot springs of the Jemez Pueblo lands. My friends lived in San Ysidro.

I tell riders that there is way more than the PCH incredible as it is. AZ and NM have some really amazingly beautiful rides.

I never really understood what was meant by the big country until I go back there each time. It takes my breath away still.

Darryl,

191 thru Hannigan's Meadow is about the sickest road I have ever ridden.  100 miles of twisties all the way from Alpine to the Morenci mine.

did not know you did time in the land of enchantment.

Hmmmmm. Makes me want to head out to visit the Mother in law (Albuquerque) and bring the bike along. Must admit it sounds like there is some worthy riding out there.

I also have done them both and N. Cali just doesn't have the mountains nor the canyons. I however will never say anything bad about
the run from Stinson Beach up 1 then through the redwoods to Eureka. Nor have I seen a prettier sight than Mt. Shasta in the clouds. Got a ticket for 110 there =ed reckless driving by the CHP.

However there is no Salt River Canyon in Cali. The best altitude changes and mountain riding I have experienced is in AZ, N.M. and Colorado. I've been from Alaska to Guadalajara Mexico and from Mystic, Connecticut to Cal north and south.

All good.
