06 GSXR1000 Pipe Installed
« on: March 31, 2007, 09:43:33 AM »
My bike started life with a Yoshimura RS3 full exhaust.  Then  it was too quiet IMO and wanted to be a little more different so I chopped 9" off the pipe.  I really liked the look and and sound.  But ever since I did that, between 3.5K - 4K the exhaust note sound very odd...just didn't smooth at all.  I rode like that for 6 months and since I typically cruise at that RPM, it drove me nuts.  I was going to just buy a new different brand pipe but didn't want to drop $200+ to doit.  So I decided to do something different than most and I'm sure someone some where had done this before, but since I can't find any information on it, it seemed like a good cheap project to take on.  A friend at work had his trashed 06 1000 muffler still so I borrowed it to see how it'd look and to mock it up to see if my idea was feasible.  All went well, looked easy to do so I found and bought a new pipe off ebay for $56. I coudl have saved $15-$20 and got a used one, but figured it was worth the extra bucks for a new pipe.  As soon as it came in, I brought it to the muffler shop to get a piece welded on it so it would mount exactly how my RS3 did and I can always put my short pipe back on. :)  I'm not sure how I'm going to cover up the welding the shop did or the new piece of pipe, but thinking of maybe using some black exhaust wrap over it? Any ideas anyone?

Some may hate the look, but I personally like it.  I think the 1000 stock pipe looks like it belongs on the busa than the 1000. I like the looks 10x better than the RS3, short or long one.  The fact that it's titanium and has the Suzuki logo on it, just adds to the stock look my bike. lol  It's as quiet as the stock length RS3 but definitely louder than the busa's stock pipes, guessing because of my header?  Anyways, wanted to share it and see what everyone else thought of my idea???

Honestly can't say yet, hadn't really rode much with it other than on the way home from the shop and it rained all day today.  Just playing around on the way home, actually feels more torquey.  I love the sound of it.  Actually sounds deeper than it did with the short pipe, just not as loud. :)

Sweet! I always thought that stock 1K can would look great on the Busa and it does! Suzuki should have done the same on the 07 Busa. At least something would have changed other than the paint options. Nice job!  :thumb:

Like the looks of that set up, to bad they didn't have a matching opposite side pipe. I'm one for the likes of duals but that looks pretty darn good  :thumb:

Do you know what they used for a filler rod when they welded it? Maybe try polishing it out if the welds are smooth.

I bought a 1k muff from e bay a while back myself to do the same, but a little shorter. I didn't think anyone here would like it . but I do. I just don't know if the hole size will kill HP on a 1363 and akra.
