Wind Noise
« on: April 05, 2007, 08:13:02 AM »
I'm new to the sport bike corner and was curious about the wind noise I experience from the helmet. I wear a shoei 1000 series helmet and ( ride 07 Busa ) WOW it gets noisey above 80 mph. I purchased the double bubble and it helped some when tucked in but I still get turbulance noise in the rear of helmet were air dam is. Different helmet? Or just nature of the beast?

Thanks, I needed a good laugh today.

Hmm...that's weird, if the wind noise is REALLY bad maybe the helmet doesn't fit quite right or something.  I've never worn a Shoei but I thought they were supposed to be pretty good. :?  Sometimes I put the IPOD shuffle on if I'm on a long ride though and I don't notice the wind at all.

A properly fit helmet (tight around the cheeks) should eliminate a good part of that wind noise. I still recommend staying away from ear plugs or iPods for safety reasons.

You know, I wish someone would post " how a helmet should fit " because when I purchased my bike the feedback on that  issue was not what I would expect from a dealer selling bikes that run 185 mph off the showroom floor. I know my heads a little fat so I went with the XL. Now I wonder if a large would have done the trick. Lets see....that was 400.00 uh let me try another...Shoot for 6 this time...sweeeeeet. NOT

put the helmet on and shake your head around,  if the helmet moves freely from your face its too big.
