Curiosity....
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:27:58 PM »
yea yea I know it killed the cat....anyway.  I was wondering if anyone knows of an exhaust can that can produce the REALLLLLY deep throaty growl--much like todays sports cars with a flow master pipe on it.  I REALLY like that sound and was wondering if you can get it off of a Busa.  I know that it won't be as deep due to engine size, but pretty close.  Or is there a mod you can do to an exhaust can to where I can get close to it.

Thanks ahead of time for any information...

Bass organ pipes are long.

When the exhaoust valve opens a pressure pulse excites the exhaust system at all acoustic frequencies.
The system amplifies some frequencies and supresses others...resulting in its sound.
Bass note involve moving gas so you don't want a lot of baffles in the way.
High notes are damped by diffusing them off into a damping medium like glass packing.
Overall pipe length will determine the fundamental frequency and strong overtones.
A long pipe with a straight through packed muffler should sound strong down low.

Pipes are made for power not sound but the same acoustical laws apply to both.
Bike pipes are too short to sound really bbassy.

My Ti Force rattles the windows of my garage at idle a bit.
My 69 vette with two 3" pipes hooked to sidepipes using Edelbrock straight through racing mufflers shakes the whole garage..

That answer your question?

Does anyone have some recordings of the HMF systems?

Hell I would love to have a turbo right now, but I have 2 and 1/2 years before my warranty runs out...but once that happens turbo is going on the bike.

It does answer my question a little--I do understand that the pipes are short--I was just trying to see if there was anyway to get it deeper sounding.

Thanks for the info......
