40 shot of nitrous
« on: July 01, 2007, 04:33:20 PM »
Is an .036 dry nitrous nozzle, a "40 shot of nitrous"? Mine is a Zex dry nitrous kit if that makes a difference...Thanks.

A 36 jet made 42 HP on my Busa with a custom map.

a .036 is approximately 50 hp. a .032 is as close to 40 hp as your gonna get.
use this calculator: http://www.ny-trex.com/calculator.php
just remember to use 900 or 950 for nitrous pressure.

right after the air inlet tube on the airbox on the left side. The part that fits around the frame and seals the airbox to the frame, right after that on the main body of the airbox. It sprays into the airbox. I had a large box mod, but it would work the same with a small box mod.

mine made 41hp on the dyno with a .036 jet in the airbox, moved on to a wet kit now, makes much better power.

i'd imagine that calculator depends on optimal conditions, equipment, weather and tuning to be correct.

If jet size doesn't equal a "shot" amount, then what are people actually describing when they say " I have 40 (etc.) shot of nitrous ???

40 shot means 40 hp.

Jet size is flow amount at a given pressure, so hp can change based on many conditions. .36 might do 40 hp on your bike but on mine it might do 50 based on the tune, altitude weather ect...... Only way to have a 40 shot, or 50 shot is to check it on a dyno and tune it out. Some ppl like to run a little rich so get the correct hp the motor would have to ingest more nos.

Example, 12.5 A/F with a .32 might add say 40 hp, 11.5 might it might take a .36 to add the same hp but you are wasting NoS and fuel. If you leaned out the .36 to 12.5 then you would add 50hp.

NoS and turbos have allot in common with fueling. I have heard allot of guys in the turbo world swear up and down that the richer mixture is better for the motor, but the fact is the richer mixture is retarding the timing a little bit and that is what is better for the motor. Its better to use the correct A/F ratio and remove some timing with a box, you will make more hp then running rich to achieve the same timing reduction.
