More power would be good
« on: July 01, 2007, 09:43:34 PM »

I have a R1 with +3 sprocket at the rear. It has a lot of torque, but I want more hp. If I get a full exhaust would I get more power up top, or just more torque?

Are you really asking that question???.......

But to answer it .......yes you would see an over all improvement in hp and torque too........you will for sure net more hp then torque.........and to take it a step further if you compromised the twisties and went for straight line for the most part then a big up top power adder for exhaust standards would be a brock sidewinder because they lack down low and a bit of mid range power but build very strong up top compared to other types of exhausts........also if you spend a few extra dollars you can get the street meg aswell and bolt up whatever type of riding suits you that day........sidewinder for straights and street meg for carving.......

An R1 has alot of torque?  Compared to what?  A Ninja 650R?

Sorry.  Couldn't help it!

I think the R1 is a torquie bike....  I think they are the most wheelie happy bike I have ever riden....  I can't imagine how they let those bikes out the door without a factory steering stabilizer...

Let's not forget that when you have the highest and flattest torque curve of any bike, we sometimes forget that other bikes are respectable in thier own right.....  I personally don't think an R1 pulls as are on the top end as a Gixxer or ZX10 does, but that's just my opinion....

I think the point he was trying to make was that the R1 has the lowest torque output of all the literbikes.  A 1000cc bike that pumps out 70+ ft-lbs (and not until 10,000 rpm) is not a torquer compared to the other literbikes that make 80-ish ft.-lb. at 8500 rpm.

None of these are in 'Busa territory, but literbike to literbike - R1 is not known as being a torque monster.
