Lowering 06 GSXR600
« on: January 27, 2007, 07:18:56 PM »
Lowered my neighbor's 2006 GSXR 600 today. Have a question about the front. Lowered the front 1" , Now how do you tighten the clutch bracket.  :? There is only about a 1/4" left under the triple tree and when you tighten it up it will not stay, it want's to slip down. And you know the fork tubes are tapered, so the clutch bracket will not tighten down enough. Want to at least lower it 1" up front. The front brake bracket tighten up with no problem.  :bah: The back was no problem just swapped out the link.  Is there a spacer to put in between to take up the space?

I had to cut the slots in my clipones bigger to get a good grip on the for due to the taper...

Be carefull with this mod. My good friend totalled his 06 750 doing the same thind. I wasn't around when he lowered it to notice, but when I picked up the bike from his house to take it to the bodyshop I noticed the left clipon flopping around the forktube. He wound up breaking his foot and totaling his bike because of this. Perhaps lowering the forks internally is the best solution.

Here is the pic:

But yes, you are both right. That is what I'm talking about. It happened in the drive way. Scared the sh** out of me, wasn't excepting that to happen. Good thing that I wasn't on the street. I try to check everything first before I ride.

Make the slot bigger where the bolt goes threw so it grips the fork tube more..do not ride it untill you do!!

Should I lower the triple tree down until it is flush, and then clamp the bracket to the tapered section of the fork, so it is not on the that lip? I was scared to tighten the bracket to much, wasn't sure if it would crack. Didn't know what material it was made of.

slide the tubes up a little more so that last bit of thicker fork is gone(for even clamping pressure) and grind the groove in the clipon larger so it gets more bite..the bars are made out of aluminum..

We are talking about the same thing right???

I'll have to wait until I get home tonight. Our firewalls at the office will not let us view pictures. I should be home around 6:30-7:00pm Eastern. This way I can look at what you posted. I can side the up a little further with no problem. Just not sure about this ((grind the groove in the clipon larger so it gets more bite..the bars are made out of aluminum..))

I guessing that is what you posted a pic of.

Thanks Dave.

Yes..But not a close up..

The bars have a flat spot were the bolt that tightens the clamp around the fork,it has a flat area were the bolt goes threw..take the bolt out and make the GAP larger, because it bottoms out and the clipon falls down due to it being on the skinnier part of the forktube and not enough bite..

Do I need to take them off the bike to do the mod, or can it be done while on the bike?

I took Mine back off but can be done while still on..thick diegrinder cut-off disc..but if You take the bars off You can use a file or sandpaper disc..

But You might mark up the fork tubes if YOU SLIP..JUST JACK THE BIKE UP SLIP THE TUB DOWN ENOUGH TO GET THE BARS OUT..

I would think the best easy way to do it is to turn up an aluminium sleeve to make up the difference in diameters. Then cut the sleeve in half and put it in.
Ideally make new clip ons that match the smaller diameter and split completely in half with 2 clamp screws so that you can get them on.

Trying to find out what is wrong. Hackman did this but his hand grips keep sliding down, don't want to over tighten an strip it out. Is there something else to stop the bars from sliding down. Thanks for your help.
