When I built my first stroker motor back in 2000 I made this
It is a Cam Chain tensioner spacer. When you use a A.P.E spacer plate under the block it also tightenes up the Cam chain so tight that the tensioner did not ratchet. It acted like a manual tensioner (solid) which put alot of stress on the cam chain. By backing out the tensioner it gave it room to ratchet. It worked fine. This was used on Busas that had no milling done to teh surface of the head.

What are the chances of you making another one of those?  I don't like the idea of using a manual tensioner.

Nope, the deck surface has never been touched.

actually the wait is pulling my vc off for lash insp/adj and i was gonna shoot some pics to make for a better response than just opinions

BTW...the crank i may have for sale has that conversion and is a 5mm

Cool, keep me in mind...

I have acquired a crank (fresh APE 6.25mm I bought outright)...  Still needs rods (have decided on Carrillo H-beams w/upgreaded bolts, head studs, .125" spacer, etc..).

I want one of those spacers for the CCT like Gixx1300R posted...  I just helped a fellow board member degree his cams today on a turbo motor with a .125" spacer plate on it, and he had a small spacer similar to Gixx1300R's on it, which worked well. I got about three clicks on the tensioner when I bolted it in and put the spring and everything in there (with a brand new chain nonetheless).  :thumb:

Yea 3 clicks is enough. Just imagine if you didnt have the spacer. Let me see if I can find a cam chain tensioner gasket ( i use it as a pattern) and make you one.

Awesome!  I'll gladly pay you for one...

I think the one I saw today was a Cometic, but I can't find that product listed on their site.  If Gixx1300R is going to be kind enough to help me out, I'll wait for him.

Man I made mine way back in 2000. I even emailed A.P.E and suggested that they include it with their spacer plates.

OK I have an extra cam chain gasket. What kind of time frame do you have? Right now I'm working on the Billet Cam chain guides and can have you one by the end of the week.

No hurry right now...  I don't even have the crank yet.  I have quite a few parts yet to get before I think of actually getting started.

Interesting postings!

Especially the bearing clearance suggestions of one person ,...   i have to distrust this as it made ZERO mention of oil viscosity!  I personally know of a number of large engines and builders who all use more stock clearances (much much tighter) BUT also they specificely specify oil!

it is  a fact that bearing clearance/load/heat along with proper oil viscosity go together.

I had similar problems with my tensioner when I built my turbo motor. I had one of those spacers cut to a drawing I made. You can get the CAD drawing here:

You make a good point..........the clearances suggested by the person that I quoted should have been accompanied by recommendations on suggested oil. On the other hand, it could have been easily assumed that readers would have a working understanding of clearances and viscosities. That said, I am sure they are using a 30w or higher synthetic oil and are primarily concerned with cooling, flushing and film strength. If Rick and Dave were interested in wringing out every last pony, they may have gone to tighter clearances......along with a lighter oil.........to eliminate possible frictional losses. BTW, they have the fastest 1507 in the country and hold numerous LSR's so I would not totally discount what insights that have been offered.

Thanks for the link.  Gixx1300R was kind enough to make a nice aluminum spacer for me, so I'm covered in that area now.  :thumb:
