possible starter problem????
« on: May 06, 2007, 09:35:56 PM »
Went out today, and after getting gas the starter made a loud clank and I think ground out something like teeth. Is it he starter or the gear?

same thing happened to me, i'm getting ready to take it to the shop.  i believe it is the starter clutch is what they were saying, most likely from it being rolled off to get started previously.

It turned out to be the starter gear had rounded off. What year do you have? it seems the newer ones have better starters than the 99-00 models. One thing you can do to prevent it from happening again, is too file out the bolt holes about 1/8"-1/4" to allow the starter to be more flush with the gear.

you replace the starter, starter idlegear limiter, a pin, starter clutch cover and ilder gear cover. The best thing to do is put A "wanted" ad up on this site for a 2003 and newer starter set up and see if you get any hits. I will post the bulletin.
