Well i finished building the motor, degreeing the cam and installing the turbo system and the bike won't even start.  Turns over fine, but won't start.  Spoke to Pinky and he thought it might be one of the cams where 180 degrees off.  So i pull the plenum, valve caover and pull the cams out.  Sure as shit the exhaust cam was 180 degrees off.  I was so excited, I thought I found my issue.  But I had the set of cams that cam out of the motor, that where degreed in at 107/106 already, so I desided to just drop those in, since the motor ran fine with them.

Install the cams.  Did everything right.  Mark on Starter clutch lined up, #1 on exhaust cam lined with top of head and #2, pointing up.  Count 14 pins too intake cam (forgot the # but book was right there).  Checked it twice, all set.  Put it all together and it doesn't even try too fire up.  NOTHING, it just turns over, it doesn't even back-fire.

I am going to pull my hair out.  I haven't riden a single day of July and this is not promising.

ANYONE, PLEASE HELP!!!!

WTF am I missing here????????

The timing rotor on a 2004 GSXR1000 can ONLY GO IN ONE WAY, same with the starter clutch.  It's pretty idiot proof.  Line up the cames correctly and it should start right up....

I have never had this problem before, so I have no idea where too start????  Worst thing I have done wrong on a complete rebuild is crossed #1 and #2 coil plugs.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 things to look for..

fuel and spark

not even a back fire...  you might be missing one of those two things.

fuel pump cut on?      got pressure?

checked for spark?

pin on intake cam?  .310- .315

you have a kill switch on the bike?

Cam sensor is plugged in...  I had to replug it in when I dropped in the old cams.

It should be getting spark, because it was back-firing the first time I tried to start it.......

No fault codes.

There is no fuel pressure sensor in the system.  That would be a very good place to start.  But it sounded like the system was pressurized.  But this is a good one.

Haven't connected secondaries yet, as they are not needed to run.  I wanted to start basic then add parts.  But everything it needs to run is there, including PC III USB...

I will install a fuel pressure gauge.

I'll recheck all the connections.

Do I really have to check the pin on intake cam???  I didn't touch it.  Maybe it got tapped farther in that it suppose to be.  Good call, I can check that.......

Had spark before, but how do I check for spark with the intake on???  I am assuming you mean pull a coil and actually check it????

No kill switch on bike yet...

That is on the tank?????  I only plugged the fuel pump plug into the tank, unless that is also the tip sensor??  But I wouldn't get the fuel pump if I missed that one then??  Is this somewhere else I migght have missed?

i think its by the tank in the subframe. That would make the bike crank but not fire. Fuel pump would not cycle though.

pull one of your coils out stick a  plug in it and see if your firing if it is then go to the next step and see if its getting fuel.

+1
start with the basics.  check to see if you have spark.  If you have spark pull the injectors and the fuel rail.  lay them on a towel or some thing because hopefully they willl be spraying fuel. and crank it over to see if they are spraying fuel.
That atleast lets you know where to look.
power commanders go to shit or loose their map some times.  unplug the pc and see if it starts with it unplugged.

And just for sanity check unplug anything that could be killing ignition, both the 2 step as well as the air shifter kill box.

I hope it's not the PC III USB.  But that should be easy to check, simply unplug it!!!!

I will install a fuel pressure gauge today, in the fuel system to check that.  If that's not it I will pull the plenum off and check the cam sensor PIN and if I have spark....

Obviously this is either a fuel or spark issue, as the bike is not even trying to start....

But sometimes you just get overwhelmed when taking on such a big project.  I have a tendency to lose my temper and throw things, so I have been walking away from the bike and giving myself time too cool down.  This really is emotionally taxing....

You know, I'll try this first, as it's the easiest!!!!

If a PC III USB is broken, will the lights on the outside still light up and cycle threw??????  Because mine still seem to work????????  Never had one go wrong, but I have heard stories.  It would be weird if it happened when I pulled the bike apart!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I will run over there in like 30 minutes and try that quick?!?!?!?!?!

Thanks for all your input guys.

At this stage, when you have taken EVERYTHING APART and at the same time tring to build something completely different, it's overwhelming when something goes wrong.  As I touched EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you said you don't have an ignition kill....Which come to find out was a problem I had....But it sounds exactly the same...So I say most Likely Ignition/Spark issue...Not fuel.
How much for the whole pie...2..3..4..5?

i dont knwo if the pc3 will light up or not, i just know mine just made the bike not start...just died...actually it started locking injector #1 open a couple of times and then died..I believe that this same pc3 cost me my stock motor because it glitched on the dyno

It's NOT the PC III.....    :x :x :x :x

But I pulled a fitting out of the fuel system and going to the store now for a fitting with a 1/8 NPT threaded into it, to check fuel pressure.

If this new pump doesn't have the fuel level sending unit working, it just may not have enough gas in the tank?!?!?!?

WISHFUL THINKING ON MY PART!!!!!!!!!!
