WEIGHT/HP RATIO?
« on: November 28, 2002, 05:55:00 PM »
If i weight 245lbs in full leathers, and my bike puts out 200HP, then how much would a rider have to weight on a stock bike (165HP) to accelerate at the same speed?

What is the formula?

What is the formula?

For the sake of discussion, lets say both bikes weighed exactly 550lbs.

100 lbs!!!If all else is equal!!!
Sorry forgot to add the bikes in!!!
So I'm having this dream! I'm on my Turbo Busa and these guys are after me in a car, but they can't catch me, So they get a bike, but they can't catch me. So they get a plane, and just as their about to catch me, the TURBO KICKS IN!

So if I race a stock bike with a rider that weights 135 lbs, we should accelerate equally, all other things being equal?

THATS INTERESTING... if correct.

Is there a formula that you could plug in different numbers and get an answer?

[fat ass factor (bike1)] + [bike weight (bike1)] / [AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT ON BIKE (bike1)] x the hypotanuse of a right angle X [JENNY CRAIG FACTOR (bike2)] + [bike weight [bike1]) = X (Where X is the amount of asskicking bike 1 will administer to bike 2 in a roll on)

ALSO A CRUCIAL FACTOR IS HP AVERAGE(WITHIN THE OPERATING RPM
THIS IS WHERE DYNO AND REAL WORLD SCREWS PEOPLE UP
ALWAYS GOP FOR EVG HP WITHIN AN RPM RATHER THAN MORE HP ONLY IN A SMALL WINDOW
THIS IS WHAT MESSeD WITH BYRON ON THE BIG HARLEY PROSTOCK(HE ALREADY KNEW BUT THE TRACK PROVED HIM CORRECT)

Yes Nick there is a formula, I am not sur exactly what it is! Here is what I did, after I added the bikes weight in!

Nick's Bike = 550
        Nick= 245
       Total= 795
          Hp= 200
          795/200=3.975 same as what Dennis got!

Danno's Bike= 550
       Danno= 100
       Total= 650
          Hp= 165
          650/165= 3.93 close enough!!!
So I'm having this dream! I'm on my Turbo Busa and these guys are after me in a car, but they can't catch me, So they get a bike, but they can't catch me. So they get a plane, and just as their about to catch me, the TURBO KICKS IN!

New scenario!!!!!

Nick's Busa= 550
       Nick= 245
      Total= 795
         Hp= 200
    795/200=3.975 lbs per Hp

Danno's Busa= 550
       Danno= 250 w/ titanium rods!
       Total= 800
Boost's Turbo add on Hp= 400
    800/400=2lbs per Hp
        Danno wins Hands down!!!!!
So I'm having this dream! I'm on my Turbo Busa and these guys are after me in a car, but they can't catch me, So they get a bike, but they can't catch me. So they get a plane, and just as their about to catch me, the TURBO KICKS IN!

Nick isnt there a simple way to deal with this weight? the added weight may provide extra traction and help keep the front end dowm if placed properly? cant you lower the gears to make up for the extra weight? say your bike does 167 in the 1/4 shouldnt your bike be geared to be just approaching rev limiter, as it hits 167 in 6th gear? play with it, then lay down and hook that fucker up, shouldnt matter what he weights?

I wasnt...

I was curios of there was some kind of formula for figuring shit like this... hell, it doesnt even need to be a bike... it could be cars, planes, what ever...

I was just curios...

In cars - in the 4,000 lb. range - 90 to 110 MPH range - 100 lbs. = about a tenth.

According to that site - a 785 bike and rider needs 231 HP to run a 9.50 ET.

My "66" 426 Hemi ran a best ET of 12.42 - according to that site it made 526 HP.  Wow.

The MPH are very good approximations while the ET's run high........at least for bikes.

According to that site - 785 lb. bike and rider - 160 Hp = 10.8 @ 138.  I think that is a little pessimistic but you can't factor in driver/rider skill in a formula.

assuming riders are eqaul skills with the same power curve, the rider with 165 HP will have to be 70-100#'s based upon a 4-5 lb per hp figure.
so if someone out runs you thats  175+ in wieght
with a pipe and pc, you know what to do!
