HELP ME! (clutch)
« on: November 26, 2002, 03:01:00 AM »
Ok, first not enuf clutch, slipping.

So I go and buy a APE CLUTCH PACK kit, and put it in, and now the thing wont disengage! I pull the clutch all the way in, and its still engaged... tried everything to fix, including putting all thin steals (using some thins from the stock set).

Nothing works! Any advise?

you may have a cracked clutch slave cover its on the other side of the engine near the chain.
put the correct steels back in and in the proper place. make sure the steels are facing the correct way (one side has a sharp edge one side is smooth on the edge) I believe that the sharp edge has to face out BUT i could be mistaken. someone else may know that. if your cover is cracked you may be able to see it move when you try and dis-engage the clutch. you need to pull the left side fairing to see the cover.

I personally would of stuck with the stock clutch with heavy duty springs. I would just be careful that if you wear out this clutch fast that you check your oil pump pick-up and see that its not clogged from all the clutch material.
previously owned a 01 blk/gry Busa little of this little of that...oh yeah and a ghetto turbo 320horse/200ft.lb. 8.92@169
Bikeless....for now.

Did you resolve your clutch issue? Also, what gearing are you running? 17/42? Just a guess of course.

Yes, its resolved, Apparently the APE kit comes with 2 extra rings that should be discarded and not installed. They were installed.

Pulled them out,and it worked fine.

Nick, did they give you any explanation as to why they packaged it with 2 extra plates? It doesn't make sense for them to include plates that aren't supposed to be used. Do they sell that clutch pack as a general clutch pack for a variety of cycles?

Also, what gearing is your Busa running?

Apparently, they sell an entire clutch pack... that includes the 2 rings... the thing is, the stock clutch already has the 2 rings in it.

So my mech put in 2 , plus2 in their, =4.

OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. (Im not a mech).

Im running 2 up in back... yee haw.

its a blast man... the new clutch is SEROUSLY BETTER.

the 1 peice center coupled with the stronger clutch plates offered by APE make for a REALLY STRONG YET POLITE clutch. definite improvement.

Although, I must note that the notches are alot thinner around the outside, and I have already heard from several people that the APE CLUTCH KIT is notorious for putting dents in the basket.
