That depends,

I have most of the time seen a good crosshatch on the cyl. so no .

I have seen one that was glazed (rare) then I used some 80 grit.

Johnny?? 80 GRIT? ?

Sounds like something you would use to remove old paint with... I hope you mean 800 grit?

Any of the Busa engines I have done have not needed any sort of deglazing...if in doubt call the specialist: Millennium Plating ...

I asked the same question of U.S. Chrome, the plater for Eric Gore.
They said to use a scotchbrite 7447 handpad to remove any glazing that might exsist.
I have had good results with this.

I was laughing my ass off when I read about the 80 grit for deglazing.

I figured ya meant 800 JohnnyCheese but I laughed anyway. I only use 80 grit if I'm gonna sand me a new 5th cylinder!

When putting in a spacer plate, I hear alot of guys saying thats all they do.  Do you guys usually change the rings too, when putting in a spacer plate?   Would it be worth putting in a set of drop in aftermarket pistons, or are the stock ones okay?

FYI:  Talked to Millenium last week about deglazing the cylinders. They recommened a brush from Wiseco. It is some king of silicon brush with some sort of abrasive attached. They said it was fairly new and is what they use exclusively. They also said not to use a glaze hone or sand paper on the Nikasil plating.
By the way...  I re-ring every season.
By the way the brush is expensive!
Hope this helps

Pull it apart and if you can see that the bore is in good condition, still round and the cross hatch is still there, rebuild and you will be fine.

Have done many engines this way.
