05 gixxer 1k head question?

Okay i have a 05 1000 gsxr.Can i put a 07 1000 head&cams on and gain any hp?I was told that the 07 head is a better head&cams than the 05,06.For that matter will the motor out of a 07 fit in the 05 with out major mods?I've been thinking of doing a 3mil over on my 05.But was told id need after market rods also?Any body done any of these mods?

That is a LOT of work for a minimal gain, *if* it can be done. The 07's are not that much of a huge difference over the K5's/K6's.

For more than enough power for you (for right now), go grab an intake cam from a gixxer 750, and install it in place of your intake cam. This should be about 7-8 rwhp alone. Along with a good pipe, a good map, and the usual bolt on (TRE, sprocket, filter), you should be a very, very happy camper. Right up there with a piped 07.

If this is not enough, you can get more aggressive cams and/or head porting/milling. But I don't see a need for the expense of picking up an entire 07 head or motor. Is the head/motor/cams better? Yes, but not THAT much better to get a entire assembly.

I have had some head work done.Its at 176 hp now.My head has been shave,ported&polished.I have 2 intake cams a pipe powercommander.Need a filter and its geared.And have a tre on the way.I have a friend(who is my bike mech)who has an 07 with pretty much the same work other more off the head.It makes 188 hp.Im just trying to get the most out of it.Im gonna go to a 3mil over this winter so if the 07 head will fit thats the time to do it.And thanks for replying im just trying to get all i can get!My  goal is 190hp at the wheel.But must be street dependable.

dont u mean a 750 cam on the exhaust? and not to dis..but if your head is ported, polished, and milled and only making 176...something is off. mine made 174 with just the head milled, no port work or anything to the cams.

The cam im not sure on could be a 750.And yes im sire on the porting &polishing.Could be different dyno's.But talked to Chip Hunter and bike makes roght at what be said it should with mods that are done.

And only milled about 20thou off the head.I know i could make more if i milled off more.But didn't want to chance my streetabilty by milling to much off.Besides id like to do a 3 mill over.So how much can i mill off and still run pump gas and top end bike with problems?

i have a 05 1000 that is stock bore. i had kws do a head for me. with the addition of yosh str cams,yosh head gasket
and the normal bolt ons(pipe,filter and pc3usb) it now makes 189.2 hp and 90 ftlbs of torque. they have done several
3mm over motors with the same head and cam package that makes 213hp and 113 torque. my sugestion is either have them or lees do a head for you. carpenter also has a head cam package that does about the same. if 190 hp is your goal there is no need to
spend additional money if you dont need to. i can say that i have seen several people do overbores and not have a professional port
the head with dismal results in powe gains.
