Supercharged Busa road bike.
« on: October 06, 2007, 12:03:56 PM »
Well its finally in the workshop and the engines on the bench  :thumb:

I`ve been talking for a few years about doing this but had a few major life changing events I had to deal with in that time

Plenty of people change or customise their bikes by bolting on bling and trick stuff, and hey ! We`ve all done that.
This time I wanted a bigger departure from standard, something a bit "questionable sanity"  kind of bike ?
This bike is for road use and maybe just maybe one of the UKs favourite magazines would like to feature it ?

I bought the bike as a bone stocker 2002 model (with lambda sensor) in November 2006 and it looked like this:

After some minor tuning and cosmetics it became like this prior to going in for major surgery:

And here it is now....

Awaiting parts and then it can crack on !

When I set my heart on something, its usually done  :thumb:

We are awaitng the Rotrex s/c from Holland and we are developing the specification.

Decided to put turbo pistons in it instead of a squisher gasket is one recent change to spec.

Lowering the bike and a 6" stretch is a part of it too.

Excited about this now ! Its gonna be fun !
Trouble is, autumn is closing in fast and the UK roads are in an extremely dangerous condition at the best of times,
when you throw in the autumnal leaf mulch and black "clag" its damned greasy on the roads for months.
Not best for a 230 rwhp bike

We are moving fast now !

The supercharger came in a few days ago from Holland. We wanted to wait for the latest generation of blower,
which is why it took a little longer.
Engine is now back in the frame with the internal mods done all except the clutch, easily done in motor inplace.

Was at the unit a few times the last week or so, but yesterday we were talking about the cooling of the blower and bike generally.
The blower is working at 10 to 1 on the revs. So the bike at 5000 rpm means the blower will be spinning at 50,000 rpm.
The air intakes are lost, we do`nt need them now, but the cooler for the blower maybe fitted within one of the air intakes or we may fit a cooler under the nose cone.
The other air intake will be rerouted to blow air over the back of the motor for additional cooling.
Sorting out the plenum chamber / air box as we speak.
We decided not to go with the Kent Cams in the end, we have just fitted a set of standard cams of an 05 bike. The cams allready in mine were not from an EU bike and thats
why the bike was underpowered for the mods allready done previously......... as we thought

We are looking at completion of the bike and running by the end of this week.
The 6" over swingarm and lowering will be done early next week.
I may spend some time "running the bike in" on a generic fuel map until its bedded in nicely prior to the full dyno.

I am trying to sort out a pair of wheels to paint and fit these new Avons when the bike comes home as much dyno time will wreck the tires I have on it.

Reliability is the key thing we are trying to build into the bike.  Race bikes are easy to set up. Bikes for the road have way different criteria.
We are talking  a little cutting edge here in building a blown road bike rather than a race bike, so its very interesting

So from very little progress over the last few weeks, its all happening very fast !!!!!   :D :D :D

Photos from yesterday.....

Looks like I am having the bike set up with a generic fuel map to enable me to run the motor in for a few miles this weekend
before it gets some abuse on the dyno for full set up  :thumb:

Looking at fitting the ignition module to enable us to fit a shift kill device for up shifts and adding taking away ignition timing.

I will have a go at putting summat up on Youtube when I get the bike back  :thumb:

The noise on it is awesome.... a very deep growl from the modified Yoshi, a high pitched turbine like whistle from the blower and the hiss
of the pressure release valve when you shut the throttle !! Sounds meaty enough  :D

The spec has been uprated as we have gone along. Especially the PC / hub and controllers hardware.
Got a great plenum chamber under the tank, oil cooler is now under the nose cone, heat exchanger is in one of the redundant air intake tubes.
Hoping to get the bike down to Shaun at BigCC racing for the dyno work asap  :thumb:

Reallly pleased with what we have so far and we aint done yet  :D :D :D
