I guess they don't use the disclaimer - "Off road use only".

It does the same as Superchips for cars.  Are they getting fined as well?

Looked into it. This is for on and off road use vehicles. This isn't all that new, they've been selling "Street Approved" Power Commanders for a least a year. This must be why.

AMA Newsletter . . .

"The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company's "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency's emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund."

I saw that today.  I'm waiting for the big one to slide that whole state into the pacific.  Those sprout-eating tree huggers are totally out of control.  .  I like my smog.  They're setting a precident that will open the doors for all sorts of oppressive legislation.  Like someone said above-  It seems to be pointed at we evil motorcyclists.  At least they can split lanes.  We don't have that right here.   :x

You bet. How about people that make exhausts, camshafts, pistons, air filters, valves, perform port work, dyno centers, etc, etc

As a dealer, or a business owner, be careful that you don't mod a bike in any way to as change emissions. This includes, bolting on different exhaust, intake mod, or remapping.
This is state by state. In Minnesota, you can recieve a $20K fine for any of the above.
I have heard of this happening to dealers.

One story I have heard is that a dealer wanting to spite another dealer sent a guy into his competition and had them install a different exhaust system. Now any exhaust change is altering emissions believe it or not. He also had them jet the bike. Then the competing dealer turned him into the EPA and they were fined $20K.

Its bullshit, but its the fricken law.  You should know these things if your doing this, as it is $ 20k per violation. The only way I have heard to get away with it, is to hand the license plate to the owner of the bike, and to make sure to have the owner sign that it is for "off-road use only" and then if the owner put the plate back on its his problem.

Check on this as its getting more and more dangerous to do any profession mods that could be considered "altering emissions"

If your in business to custom tune etc... You had better get up to speed before you loose your ass and go to jail.  :!:

I might be way off on this but from what i have read on the subject its federal emissions not state by state some states just choose to ignore it others like Ca are just looking for headlines thats one of the reasons i moved from there.

Since bikes are so few compared to autos and trucks i'd think emission modifications could be somewhat ignored. On the other hand,go take a big whiff of Chicago,New York,or LA. :lol:As for AZ,when i lived there in the 90's we had to run motorcycles through a goddam safety inspection/emissions test(i had to lean out my old stroker Shovel so much out in the parking lot when it came my turn i'd almost melt the damn motor, and have the idle cranked up to about 2200 RPM's!)...we don't have that shit out here. :thumb:
