I see.  thanks Todd.  That explains why the overflow lid had duct tape on it when I bought the bike.  I'll just run water and tape the lid on.  Know anyone with a pre-modded radiator in excellent shape?  Mine has been problematic since I got the bike.  I bought one from a guy, but it was beat up and had a leak when I got it.  I'm a sucker I guess.   8)
Yeah, it made 500 hp at 32 psi.

Not sure on the radiator, but here's some pics of a very inexpensive and easy fix I did for our overflow caps. Tape doesn't help anyone but rule enforcers(if it's a rule that is), and piss you off when you eventually find the cap and get sticky stuff from it all over your hand.

Todd-  That is a very good idea and  3 minute fix.  I've got plenty of those metal pin doodads.  I'll go that route and always leave it that way.  Very elegant indeed.  Thanks alot for the tip.   :thumb:

Now I see what he was talking about.  I'm slow.  I was referring to a post you made a while back about them needing to strap things down becuase you were going to be blowing things over.  You weren't coming to play.  I liked that and it stuck with me.   8)

DUH!  :bah:

I feel like dope now, Todd!

I drilled 4 holes on the edge of the top of my rubber plug.  Then I criss-crossed safety wire in the shape of an X over the top of it through the holes and wired it around the whole jug.

Your way is much easier.

I guess that's the difference when you have been doing this stuff for a living for many years........ :D  :thumb:

I am beginning to doubt that we will see any rule changes for the March race. First, the web site would have to be updated and that would be a monumental task for that to be accomplished. Registration has already begun based on the current rules. So, you know bikes are going to show up based on the current published rules. I will have my bike ready for the new rules. My guess more like October.

Hi Texanzone
Look at reply 17 and click on what ever that thing is( im computer stupid) It'll take you to a long article on helmet testing. What I got out of it was that snell helmets are too hard for most crashes. I would have been better off with a cheaper, plastic outer shell in all my crashes, might not have been unconcious. All I have hit was pavement & dirt which is usually what you hit, espicially on the track , snell aproved helmets are for hitting sharper objects such as curb corners.

Please dont be pissed if Im all wrong, thats just the way I understood it.

About a mile after pic below, I hit leaves(I think) with hard front brake and woke up to folks saying do you need an ambulance, only 1 broke rib. Shoei x11 kept my beautiful face intact however.

Yea I have read that stuff and am still using a x11,not sure that I didn't buy the the x11 after reading all that ,it probably goes back to if you have a $10.00 head get a$10.00 helmet for me.Now I have no idea if one is better or worse than the other, but one thing I am pretty sure about is any helmet is better than non.Now me mad at you ,there is 10,000 comedians out of work and your trying to tell jokes  lol :D

Any updates on these rules...?

Just wondering if a metal chain guard is required...?

I thought I saw something in the past about this but just wanted to make sure.  Just picked up a new project and would like to get out to this (finally) in 2008 if I can find time.

Updated Rules for 2008

1.   Engine kill switch.  Riders must have a lanyard style kill switch that kills all power in the event of a rider falling off.  Tip over switches will NOT be a suitable replacement for a kill switch.
2.   Tires will be ZR rated D.O.T. tires, front and rear
3.   Front axels must be safety wired.  Rear axels must have the nut pinned, clipped, or safety wired,
4.   Oil drain plugs will be safety wired and it is encouraged to safety wire the filter but is not required at this time.
5.   Drive chains must have the master link safety wired or siliconed (preferably colored silicone)
6.   Crankcase breather hoses must be run into a catch tank or in to the air box.
7.   Leather racing suits must be worn and zipped at all times while in the hot pits or racing lane.  Two piece suits must zip together.
8.   Kevlar T panels can only be used for expansion flexibility (arms and legs) and not to replace other large areas of leather.
9.   Leather gloves with no holes or other openings other than breathing pinholes.
10.   Leather boots or racing boots with no holes and covering the ankles.
11.   Helmets must be certified by Snell Memorial Foundation and bearing M2000 or M2005 approval stickers.  All helmets must be in sound condition, including shell, liner, and strap.  All helmets must be approved by the tech inspector.
12.   Shields must be shatterproof in nature and have clear visibility.
13.   Visor tear-offs are not allowed.
14.   The Texas Mile prohibits hydration devices such as camel backs during racing events.
15.   Steering Damper for speeds greater than 140.

If you have any questions about the above rules, please contact the Mile staff before coming to the event.
