Tappet Clearance Check at 15,000 miles
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:14:16 PM »
Looking for opinions here.  I do minor maintenance myself, but I don't think checking the tappet clearances is something I want to attempt.  I don't want to pay the dealership to check it either.  I'm thinking I shouldn't bother having it done unless the bike gives me a reason to suspect that it needs it.  Thoughts?

its a pain in the ass to do in the bike. and unless your mechanically inclined, i wouldnt tackle it.
i went 30k miles with no valve adjustment. they were in spec so i didn't mess with em.

I would check them if I were you.The are probably within spec,if so put it back together and enjoy another 15k miles...it's simple if you have a manual..

i agree with rollin, i tore into a guys motor that had excessive bucket clearance on several valves and those buckets were cracked and the bike only had aroud 12 to 13k on it, so its a good idea to check it out
