My 01 started doing the same thing 2 years ago. Just on a whim I changed the plugs and it has never done it since. I realize this sounds a bit far fetched but it solved the problem.
The bike would not skip or misfire it would just shut off at WOT at around 8 or 9 thou. rpm.
The plugs had been in the motor for about 30000 miles and were starting to look a bit rough but still I have never had sparkplugs act up the way these did.

 :D :D  Well, Shes back too Running????????? Changed Crank Sensor & Spark Plugs???????? Went back this Weekend & Rann 8.55 8.53  8.50 Would have liked too of Seen a 40 but, Ill take these runns for Now!!!!!!!!  :D :D
